I have had the pleasure, this week, of teaching in Year 5 and Year 6. This is a great reminder of why I went into this career in the first place: to make a differ- ence to children’s lives. As Headteacher I have more influ- ence over decisions that can have a positive impact on children’s experience of school, which is why I love this role so much. I do like to get back into the classroom on a regular basis though, for a number of reasons. Firstly, it helps me to really get to know the children; secondly, I get a good idea of the challenges and opportunities presented to staff on a daily basis and thirdly, I like to ‘keep my hand in’. On top of all this, it’s great fun and the day goes so fast! Talking of fun—have a look at the pictures on page 2. The children have had a great time in the snow today! I have had the pleasure, this week, of teaching in Year 5 and Year 6. This is a great reminder of why I went into this career in the first place: to make a differ-ence to children’s lives. As Headteacher I have more influ-ence over decisions that can have a positive impact on children’s experience of school, which is why I love this role so much.

I do like to get back into the classroom on a regular basis though, for a number of reasons. Firstly, it helps me to really get to know the children; secondly, I get a good idea of the challenges and opportunities presented to

staff on a daily basis and thirdly, I like to ‘keep my hand in’. On top of all this, it’s great fun and the day goes so fast!

Snow Fun!

Well done to everyone who braved the

snow and ice and made it in to school to-

day. Just 6% of the school, many of whom

travel from outside of Horsmonden, didn’t

manage to get in.

All the children had a great time on the field

at break time and lunch time, as you can see

below:

Street Cruizer

The Street Cruizer bus, which is paid for by

the Parish Council, is back! The bus is situ-

ated by the village green every Friday from

today; is open from 5pm to 7pm and caters

for young people 11 and over.

The Parish Council will continue to fund

this facility as long as there is a need for it

so please do encourage older children to go

along.

Panto comes to Horsmonden! We have been offered a production

of Sleeping Beauty at a special rate

as the company is in the area. The

panto will take place in the school

hall on the morning of 27th Janu-

ary and all classes will be attend-

ing. We are asking for a £2 contri-

bution per child to cover the costs—

letter to follow.

Magical Maths Club This club will start again after the February break. The club is for all ages and is likely to be on a Tuesday after school. We have noticed some improvements in children’s mathematical skills and attitudes towards maths for children who took part last term. There will be an assembly on 26th January so that the children can find out more!

School Nurse Health Clinic The next School Nurse Health Clinic takes place on 10th March at 8:30am. The Health Clinic is an ideal chance for par-ents or carers to discuss any aspect of their child's health or general wellbeing. School nurses can offer advice on most health related issues including healthy eating, hearing tests, common childhood illnesses, head lice, bedwetting, day wetting, soiling, sleep routines and man-aging behaviour. To make an appoint-ment please call Jean, the school nurse
