Shivakumar, Professor and Head (Retd.), Department of Medicine, Stanley Medical College, Dr. Mohamed Uthuman, Additional Director (i/c.), Directorate of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, Chennai, Tmt. Shanthi Rajasekar, Trustee, Child life-NGO, Rtn. L. Vijayan, Chartered Accountant, Namakkal and Thiru. P. Raymond Patrick, Proprietor, ARVEE Engineering, Tirunelveli. The members of the HMC including the special invitees, Dr. T.J. Harikrishnan, Director of Research and Dr. L. Gunaseelan, Dean i/c, Faculty of Basic Sciences attended. The agendas for the previous year were reviewed and the agendas for the forthcoming year were discussed and placed. On conclusion, Dr. K. Kumanan, Dean i/c, MVC proposed the vote of thanks. Radha Mohan Singh, Hon’ble Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India distributed the award on the occasion of World Milk Day celebrated on 01.06.2018 at A P Shinde Hall, NASC Complex, Pusa, New Delhi. Dr.V. Ramesh Saravana Kumar, Director, CAPS, TANUVAS and Dr. R. Arumugam, Professor and Head, Bargur Cattle Research Station participated and received the award. The award includes Certificate of Merit, Memento and an incentive of Rs. 5,00,000/- in the form of a cheque.

The Bargur Cattle Research Station, Bargur, TANUVAS was conferred with the prestigious National Kamdhenu Award (First prize), South Zone, for maintaining the best indigenous cattle herd by Institution, for the year 2017-18 by the Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India. Shri. Radha Mohan Singh, Hon’ble Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India distributed the award on the occasion of World Milk Day celebrated on 01.06.2018 at A P Shinde Hall, NASC Complex, Pusa, New Delhi. SEVENTH LIVESTOCK PRODUCTION COMMITTEE MEETING

The seventh Livestock Production Committee (LPC) meeting was held at MVC on 06.06.2018. Dr. C. Balachandran, Vice-Chancellor, TANUVAS presided over the meeting as a special guest. Dr. T. Sivakumar, Professor and Head and the Member Secretary delivered the welcome address. Dr. V. Ramesh Saravana Kumar, Director, CAPS and Chairman, LPC presented the action taken on the minutes of the previous LPC meeting. The work done particulars of the farms were presented by the respective Heads. Dr. N. Kandasamy, former Professor and Head, Department of Animal Genetics and Breeding, VC&RI, Namakkal, Dr. C.R. Pradhan, former Professor and Head, Department of Livestock Production and Management, Orissa University of Agriculture and Technology, Bhubaneswar and Dr. B. Sathya, Manager (MP), TCMPF, Chennai participated and offered their suggestions.

ORIENTATION PROGRAMME ON NIPAH VIRUS PREPAREDNESS

The Zoonoses Research Laboratory (ZRL), Centre for Animal Health Studies, TANUVAS organized an one-day orientation programme on “Nipah virus preparedness” under the TANII funded scheme on "One Health Approach for Animal and Public Health to Augment Food Safety and Productivity" at MVC on 08.06.2018. Dr. C. Balachandran, Vice-Chancellor, TANUVAS presided over the inaugural function, released a hand-out and delivered the presidential address. Dr. P. Ravichandran, Addl. Director and Dr. Mohamed Uthuman, Chief Epidemiology

Officer of the Department of Animal Husbandry, Dr. Y. Krishna Mohan Reddy, Director i/c, CAHS, Dr. N.K. Sudeep Kumar, Director of Extension Education spoke. Besides lectures by Dr. G. Ravikumar, Professor and Head, ZRL, Dr. G. Dhinakar Raj, Project Director, TRPBV and Dr. M.G. Jayathangaraj, Professor and Head, Department of Veterinary Clinical Medicine, Ethics and Jurisprudence, MVC, a demonstration on the different methods of trapping of bats by Dr. M.R. Sudhakaran, Assistant Professor, Sri Paramakalyani Arts and Science College, Alwarkurichi, Tirunelveli and an interaction with Dr. G. Arun Kumar, Professor and Head, Manipal Centre for Virus Research, Manipal through video conferencing were arranged. A total of 97 professionals including 34 faculty members of TANUVAS participated.

32ND ADRC MEETING The 32nd Animal Disease Review Committee (ADRC) meeting was held at MVC on 06.06.2018. Dr. Y. Krishnamohan Reddy, Director i/c, Centre for Animal Health Studies briefed about the mandate of the ADRC, reviewed the particulars presented by the Heads of University farms, ILFCs and Departments having livestock units and in his remarks stressed the importance of timely vaccination in controlling the diseases. Dr.T.J.Harikrishnan, Director of Research, Dr.V.Ramesh Saravana Kumar, Director, CAPS, Dr. N.K.Sudeep Kumar, DEE, Dr. Mohamed Uthuman, Additional Director (i/c.), Directorate of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, Chennai and representatives from ADIUs and PDDLs of Government of Tamil Nadu participated.

PARENTS-TEACHERS MEETING AT MVC

An interactive meeting with the parents of B.V.Sc & A.H., students and teachers was conducted at MVC on 09.06.2018. Dr.K. Kumanan, Dean i/c, MVC welcomed the gathering. Dr. C. Balachandran, Vice-Chancellor, TANUVAS presided, interacted with the parents and addressed the issues. While addressing the parents, the Vice-Chancellor brought to limelight

the efforts taken by the faculty in shaping the career prospects of the students and also outlined the various facilities available. The Ward Counsellors of the students met the parents in person and discussed about the progress of their wards. Dr. S. Balasubramanian, Director of Clinics i/c, Heads of the Departments, Warden, MVC Hostel, Course Teachers and the Student Ward Counsellors were present. On conclusion, Dr. P. Sriram, Vice-President, MVC Students Association proposed the vote of thanks. The programme was coordinated by Dr. S. Gomathinayagam, Professor and Head and faculty of Education Cell, MVC.

WORLD MILK DAY CELEBRATED

The Department of Livestock Products Technology (Dairy Science), MVC in co-ordination with Indian Dairy Association - Tamil Nadu Chapter (IDA-TNC) and NSS Unit, MVC celebrated World Milk Day at the Government High School campus, Keelambakkam - Sivanvoyal village of Tiruvallur district by conducting various competitions on 23.06.2018. The preparation of value added milk products was demonstrated to the women SHG. To create awareness, milk products sponsored by M/s Jeppiaar Milk Products Pvt. Ltd., Tiruvannamalai (JMPPLT) were distributed. In the prize distribution function, Dr. B. Dhanalakshmi, Professor and Head, Department of LPT (Dairy Science), MVC and Secretary, IDA-TNC welcomed the gathering. Thiru. C.P Charles, Chairman, IDA - South Zone, the Chief Guest of the function distributed the prizes to the winners of the competitions and delivered the chief guest address. Thiru. I.A.M. Justin, GM, JMPPLT and Vice-Chairman, IDA-TNC, Thiru. K.S. Kanna, Dairy Consultant and Dr. C. Naresh Kumar, Professor and Head (Retd.), Department of Dairy Science and the Chairman, IDA-TNC felicitated. A guest lecture by Dr. Anna Rangini Chellappa, Associate Professor and Head, Dept., of Nutrition and Dietetics of Dr. Ambedkar Government Arts College, Chennai on “Awareness and importance of milk as wholesome food” was arranged. Dr. Cecilia Joseph, NSS Co-ordinator and

Professor and Head, Department of Clinics, MVC, Chennai proposed the vote of thanks. Altogether, 75 school students and 20 self-help group women participated.

BULK PURCHASE ORDERS TO TRPVB-NOVEL PRODUCTS

The TRPVB, TANUVAS received a bulk order for the novel products, viz., Teat Protect, TANUCHEK SCC Kit and Progesterone Nano Cream developed at its cGMP clean room facility from the Directorate of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, Government of Tamil Nadu. Dr. C. Balachandran, Vice-Chancellor, TANUVAS initiated the sale proceeds by handing over the products to Thiru. A. Gnanasekaran, I.A.S., Director of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services at a meeting held on 22.06.2018.

VICE-CHANCELLOR’S VISIT

Dr. C. Balachandran, Vice-Chancellor, TANUVAS visited various units viz., Veterinary Clinical Complex, Educational Museum, AFAQAL, Livestock Farm Complex, Feed Mill and Poultry Farm Complex of VC&RI, Namakkal on 18.06.2018. During his visit, the Vice-Chancellor interacted and addressed the faculty.

WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY

MVC: The Department of Agronomy along with the MVC Students Association celebrated World Environment Day by organizing painting competition on the theme `Beat plastic pollution‘, and an awareness program for the students on 11.06.2018. Dr. K. Kumanan, Dean i/c, MVC presided over the function and advised the students to take a pledge to conserve nature. Dr. Jayshree Vencatesan, Managing Trustee, Care Earth Trust, Chennai participated as the Chief Guest, addressed the students and distributed certificates and prizes. Tree saplings were planted in the campus. Further, the NSS unit of MVC conducted a tree planting programme at the NSS adopted village, Sivanvoyal of Thiruvallur district on 10.06.2018. A total of 12 NSS volunteers participated, planted tree saplings and also conducted drawing competition for the school students and distributed prizes.

VC&RI, Orathanadu: The NSS unit of VC&RI, Orathanadu carried out clearing of plastic materials in the college campus and planted tree saplings from 05.06.2018 to 07.06.2018. Dr. B. Mohan, Dean i/c, VC&RI, Orathanadu presided over the programme. A total of 30 NSS volunteers of II B.V.Sc., & A.H. participated.

TRAINING ON STATISTICAL ANALYSIS IN VETERINARY RESEARCH

The Department of Animal Husbandry Statistics and Computer Applications, VC&RI, Namakkal organized a two-days training programme on “Statistical Analysis in Veterinary Research” for the PG students on 22.06.2018 and 23.06.2018. Besides properly structured lectures, hands-on training on the usage of various software was also arranged. Dr. M. Thirunavukkarasu, Registrar, TANUVAS participated, shared his expertise and interacted with the participants. Dr. G.A. Balasubramaniam, Dean i/c, VC&RI, Namakkal participated in the valedictory function, delivered the valedictory address and distributed certificates to the participants. A total of 35 M.V.Sc. and eight Ph.D. scholars attended.

TRAINING ON MOLECULAR BIOLOGY TECHNIQUES FOR GENOME ANALYSIS

The Department of Veterinary Biochemistry, VC&RI, Namakkal organized a training programme on "Molecular biology

techniques for genome analysis"from 24.05.2018 to 07.06.2018. A total of 20 II B.Sc., Biochemistry students of PSG College of Arts and Science, Coimbatore participated. On conclusion, Dr. G.A. Balasubramaniam, Dean i/c, VC&RI, Namakkal distributed the certificates to the participants.

WORKSHOP ON INDIGENOUS TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE

VC&RI, Orathanadu and National Innovation Foundation, an autonomous body of Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India jointly organized an one-day workshop entitled “Indigenous technical knowledge based practices for health care of livestock” for the benefit of field veterinarians of Thanjavur District on 26.06.2018. The workshop was presided over by Dr. B. Mohan, Dean i/c, VC&RI, Orathanadu. Dr. N. Punniyamurthy, Professor (Rtd.), TANUVAS and Dr. R.K. Ravikumar, Senior Scientist, National Innovation Foundation participated as resource persons along with faculties of VC&RI, Orathanadu. A total of 29 Veterinary Assistant Surgeons from Animal Husbandry department, Thanjavur division were benefitted from this workshop.

RURAL SELF-EMPLOYMENT TRAINING

VUTRC, Karur conducted a self-employment training programme on “Poultry Farming” for ten days from 18.06.2018 to 29.06.2018 with the financial assistance of Rural Self Employment Training Institute of Indian Overseas Bank, Karur. During the inaugural session held on 18.06.2018, Thiru. M. Parameshkumar, AGM, NABARD, Thiru M. Ravichandiran, LDM, Indian Overseas Bank and Thiru G. Ranganatha Prabhu, Director- RSETI participated and explained the bank credit procedures and availability of subsides. A total of 30 farmers of Karur district including rural youth and women participated.

under Tamil Nadu State Innovation Initiative (TANII) programme is functioning at TANUVAS. A training programme on “Ethnoveterinary

practices in livestock and poultry” was conducted for the benefit of livestock farmers of Tirunelveli and adjacent districts at VC & RI, Tirunelveli on 28.06.2018. A total of 64 livestock farmers participated in the training programme.

GUEST LECTURE

The Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education, VC&RI, Namakkal arranged a guest lecture on “Structural transformation of Indian agriculture and future course of smallholder production system” on 06.06.2018. Dr. Elumalai Kannan, Centre for the Study of Regional Development (CSRD), School of Social Sciences (SSS)-III, JNU, New Delhi delivered the lecture. The faculty and the PG students attended.

DISTRIBUTION OF GOATS TO THE BENEFICIARIES OF ICAR TRIBAL SUB-PLAN SCHEME

Input distribution programme under ICAR Tribal Sub-Plan Scheme on “Technological empowerment of tribal farmers through adoption of TANUVAS technologies in Tamil Nadu” was organised on 20.06.2018 at Kolli Hills, Namakkal. Two does for each beneficiary and one buck to

each group were distributed. A total of 240 does and 16 bucks were distributed to the beneficiaries of Nathukuzhipatty, Thindurpatty, Sundakkadu and Thampadippatty villages.

Similarly VUTRC, Thiruvannamalai also organized distribution of TANUVAS inputs under the scheme on 11.06.2018 at Jamunamarathur, Jawadhu Hills, Thiruvannamalai District. Dr. Rajadurai, RJD (AH), Thiruvannamalai presided over the function. TANUVAS Inputs viz., one month old Aseel chicks (120 each), concentrate feed (15kg/farmer) and poultry mash for rearing (150 sq.ft/farmer) and Veterinary Kit (consisting of dewormer, antibiotic, anti–coccidial, betadine ointment, cotton roll, Vimeral liquid etc.) were distributed to 120 tribal beneficiaries of the scheme. Thiru. K. Ponnurangan, Retired Forest Conservator of Jawadhu Hills and Dr. Varadharajan, Veterinary Assistant Surgeon of Jamunamarathur participated and felicitated the gathering.

SHEEP DISTRIBUTED UNDER NABARD SCHEME

VUTRC, Krishnagiri distributed breedable rams to 25 farmers under NABARD scheme on “Technological interventions to improve productivity in sheep” on 08.06.2018. Mrs. Nasreen Salim, Assistant General Manager of NABARD, Krishnagiri participated and initiated the distribution programme.

ANTI-RABIES AWARENESS CUM VACCINATION AND STERILIZATION CAMP

VC&RI, Orathanadu and SPCA, Thanjavur jointly organized an “Anti-rabies awareness cum vaccination and sterilization camp for pet animals” at Pattukkottai on 28.06.2018. Dr.B.Mohan, Dean i/c, VC&RI, Orathanadu inaugurated the camp and delivered the presidential address. Dr. Dhanabal, RJD (AH) i/c, Thanjavur, Thiru. S.R.T. Samiappan, Secretary, SPCA and Thiru. A. Karunanidhi, Treasurer, SPCA, Thanjavur, delivered felicitation address. A total

of 189 dogs were vaccinated against rabies and nine male dogs were castrated by surgical method. An Indian roller bird which had fracture in the wing was also treated successfully by pinning.

AWARENESS PROGRAMME ON “BLOOD CANCER AND BLOOD STEM CELL DONATION”

An awareness programme on “Blood Cancer and Blood Stem Cell Donation” was organised on 26.06.2018 at VC&RI, Tirunelveli jointly by the Staff club, Student’s Welfare Association, National Service Scheme - Red Ribbon Club and DATRI Blood Stem cell Donors Registry, Chennai. Dr.J.Johnson Rajeswar, Dean i/c, VC&RI, Tirunelveli inaugurated the programme. Ms. Thilagavathy, Manager, DATRI Blood Stem cell Donor Registry, Chennai, explained the effectiveness of stem cell therapy in combating blood cancer and Thalassaemia by displaying success stories and stressed the importance of becoming donors of blood stem cells to save lives. More than 137 students and staff of the college participated and registered their name as potential blood stem donors to DATRI Blood Stem Cell Donors Registry.

EXHIBITION

Southern India Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SICCI) in association with TANUVAS, TNAU and other partners organized its seventh edition of the “Agriculture Summit and Exhibition at Tiruchirapalli between 08.06.2018 and 10.06.2018. Around 6000 farmers attended the exhibition. VUTRC, Tiruchirapalli participated in the exhibition and displayed latest technologies in veterinary field for the benefit of livestock farmers.

TANUVAS PREMIER LEAGUE 2018

The second edition TANUVAS Premier League (TPL 2018), a T-20 staff cricket tournament

between the colleges and units of TANUVAS was conducted at MVC between 15.06.2018 to 17.06.2018. Six teams, consisting of staff from the four veterinary colleges, one from University farms and a combined team from College of Food and Dairy Technology, Koduveli and VUTRCs participated in the tournament. Teams from MVC, VC&RIs of Orathanadu and Namakkal and University farms qualified for the semi-finals. The finals was played on 17.06.2018 between the University Farm team and MVC. MVC team won the League 2018. Dr. S. Karthikeyan from VC&RI, Namakkal was adjudged the ‘Man of the Series’. Dr.P.Tamilmahan, VC&RI Orathanadu, was declared the ‘Best All-rounder’, Dr. S. Udhayavel, VC&RI, Namakkal, the ‘Best batsman’ and Dr. C. Sreekumar, PGRIAS, Kattupakkam, the “Best Wicket Keeper”. The ‘Best bowler’ and ‘Best fielder’ awards were won by Dr. S. Ramesh, LAM, CAHS and Dr. T. Ramasamy of MVC, respectively. Dr. C. Balachandran, Vice-Chancellor, TANUVAS presented the awards to the Winners and Runners and all other awardees. Dr. K. Kumanan, Dean i/c, MVC and Dr. L. Gunaseelan, Dean i/c, Faculty of Basic Sciences graced the function.

PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITION CUM COMPETITION

A scientific Photography Exhibition cum Photographic competition was organized on 13.06.2018 by the Department of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Extension Education at MVC, Chennai in which a total of 93 Post graduate students (2017-18 batch) participated. Dr.D.Jagannathan, I.A.S., Director of Museums, Govt Museum, Chennai inaugurated the Photography exhibition. Dr. S. Balasubramanian, Director of Clinics, TANUVAS presided over the programme. Dr. A. Nisha, Dr. Nithya Priyadarshini and Dr. A. Meena, PG students bagged the first, second and third prizes, respectively in the

individual event category. In the Group category, Department of Veterinary Pharmacology team won the first prize while Department of Livestock Production Management team and Department of Veterinary Public Health team bagged the second and third prizes respectively.

AWARD FOR ESSAY COMPETITION

VC&RI, Orathanadu was awarded “All India Best College” for Young Natural Wings – 2017-18 essay competition for the students at all India level conducted by the Natural Remedies, Bengaluru. A total of 13 students participated in the competition from this college. Selvi C. Chimithi, III year B.V.Sc.& A.H. student of this college won “First Prize in South Zone Level”.

SWACHH BHARAT SUMMER INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME

Swachh Bharat summer internship programme was organised by the NSS unit of VC&RI, Namakkal at adopted village Chinnakarasapalayam (S. Valavanthi) from 08.06.2018 to 17.06.2018. A total of 17 NSS volunteers actively participated in the programme. Various awareness activities like wall painting, Swachh Bharat and plastic awareness rally, signature campaign, awareness about waste water management, waste management, using of toilet in a hygienic way, yoga campaign, poster pasting and development of composting pits for organic manure were carried out at the adopted village. Dr. G.A. Balasubramaniam, Dean i/c, VC&RI, Namakkal presided over the function and delivered presidential address on the last day of camp.

BLOOD DONATION CAMP

�� The NSS Unit of VC&RI, Orathanadu organized a “Blood donation camp” in collaboration with Thanjavur Medical College, Thanjavur on 21.06.2018. Dr. B. Mohan, Dean i/c , VC&RI, Orathanadu presided over the function and donated blood. A total of 38 students and eight staff participated and donated blood.

�� In commemoration of World Blood Donors day, NSS volunteers of MVC, Chennai donated blood at Madras Medical Mission, Mogappair, Chennai on 13.06.2018 for the benefit of the patients with cardiac ailments.

INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY

MVC: Yoga training and meditation programme was conducted for NSS volunteers and NCC cadets of MVC on 21.06.2018. Dr. K. Kumanan, Dean i/c, MVC participated and felicitated. A total of 71 NSS volunteers and 78 NCC Cadets participated.

VC&RI, Namakkal: A total of 120 NSS volunteers and staff participated and performed different types of asanas demonstrated by Thiru. Varatharajan, Co-ordinator, ISHA yoga, Namakkal on 21.06.2018. Dr. G.A. Balasubramaniam, Dean i/c, VC&RI, Namakkal spoke about the importance of yoga on health.

VC&RI, Tirunelveli: The NSS unit organized yoga training classes and a guest lecture on “Yoga for peaceful mind and healthy life” by Thiru. G.T. Ganesan, Senior Professor and yoga expert, World Community Service Centre on 21.06.2018. Dr. J. Johnson Rajeswar, Dean i/c, VC&RI, Tirunelveli spoke about the importance and impact of yoga for the physical fitness and

mind sharpness for a bright, healthy and peaceful future and distributed the book on “Yoga for Human Excellence” to the students. More than 200 Students and staff of the college participated.
