OVENIA Hostelling International SloveniaHostelling International Slovenia (HI Slovenia) is the only national representative of Slovenia in the International Youth Hostel Federation (Hostelling International – HI). HI is a non-governmental and non-profit organization active in about 90 countries in the world. The organization works closely together with UNESCO (United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization), WTO (World Tourism Organization) and other important international organization – also it was proclaimed the sixth largest organization that offers overnighting. With 4 million members it is one of the largest youth organizations in the world and is the only network of youth hostels with about 4.000 objects for spending the night, 1.5 million beds and 30-40 overnight stays annually.

HI has high standards for youth hostels, based on the treatment of the guests, security, cleanliness and privacy. But it is not its only role. Since it was established in 1932 it encourages young people for better intercultural understanding through informal education and peace, global friendship and environmentalism. The international organization, with a strong support of its national members, it offers interaction among youth of various nationalities and cultures, exchange of experience, getting to know their peers and after all themselves.

For this the organization has international programs for youth, above all the ones with lesser chances, through which we spread the mission of Hostelling International, which remained the same since 1932:

To promote the education of all young people of all nations, but especially young people of limited means, by encouraging in them a greater knowledge, love and care of the countryside and an appreciation of the cultural values of towns and cities in all parts of the world, and as ancillary thereto, to provide hostels or other accommodation in which there shall be no distinctions of race, nationality, colour, religion, sex, class or political opinions and thereby to develop a better understanding of their fellow men, both at home and abroad.

HI Slovenia, with more than 40 hostels around Slovenia, ensures safe, budget friendly and quality boarding for all types of groups. This includes the educational field trips with various themes (history, art or language courses) as well as extracurricular activities for schools, students, sporting and other groups – or simply friends who want a joint active holiday.

At the hostel we offer accommodation in modern equipped rooms, single, double and four-bed rooms and four suites, which offer stay for three, four or eight people. Total number of beds is 59. All rooms and apartments are equipped with their own bathrooms and toilets, one apartment is adapted for disabled guests. In the apartments there is also a fully equipped kitchen. Guests can also be given to a common kitchen where you can prepare your meal. Next to the kitchen is a laundry room, where guests can wash, dry and iron their clothes. In the lobby of the hostel guests have their own Internet terminals. Next to the lobby is located Hostel Café, where guests can socialize, get to know each other, sit out on the sun terrace, or spenda pleasant evening by candlelight. In addition to accommodation Hostel Slovenj Gradec also offers two conference rooms and in the basement there are available two classroom for visitors.

The Hostel is located on Dharwad-left bank of the river Suhodolnica, in a quiet part of the Ozare under the Rahtelovim vrhom. To a strict City Centre is a 5-minute walk away. Slovenj Gradec is the seat of the municipality in the statistical region of Koroška and legal, economic, Bank, school, information, medical, supply and transport Center of the Mislinjska dolina. Slovenj Gradec has about 17,000 inhabitants. Slovenj Gradec offers many sports activities, such as biking, hiking, horseback riding, paragliding, trekking, swimming, skiing, and cross-country skiing. For the lovers of cultural heritages, also offers various attractions of Slovenj Gradec, that adorn our city.

The medieval townThe old town has preserved the medieval form, the buildings however show the image of the 19th century. In the city centre is located most important cultural institutions. The old town is, because it perserved its original design, an important urban planning today. The city is at the crossroads of routes between Uršlja Gora and Pohorje and offers the traveler’s riveting in its surroundings, a lot of pristine trails and secrets that are worth exploring.

Carinthia gallery of fine artsKoroška Gallery of fine arts is located in the former town house, which is between the most mightier buildings in the city. Inner courtyard surprises with arched arcades on the ground floor. Special attention is given to contemporary artists who live here - painter Bogdan Borčič and Franz Berhtold, sculptor Naci Rojnik, the deceased Radetu Nikoliću and others. From the beginnings of the artists was accompanied by the rise of Jože Tisnikarja.

Carinthian provincial museumIt was established in 1951 as the District Museum of national liberation struggle. In 1956, he settled in Museum second floor of the former Town Hall, where he remains today. The official acted as such until 1991. In accordance with the new requirements, in particular by protecting the natural and cultural heritage, and since 1986 has started to develop gradually in the General Provincial Museum. It covers archaeological, ethnological and historical area and pedagogical and vehicle trademark – activity.

Church of Sain ElizabethThe oldest building in the town is the Church of St. Elizabeth. Of the original buildings has preserved Romanesque ship and two Romanesque windows. In 1251 Bertold Andeški has devoted market church to St. Elizabeth Thurinški, her niece, who was as the patron saint of the poor and poor canonized in 1235.

Birthplace of the composer Hugo WolfThe composer Hugo Wolf was born in 1860. Hugo Wolf, which has reached worldwide fame in the music capital of Europe - Vienna, has childhood years spent in Slovenj Gradec. Little Hugo has considered a child prodigy, he mastered the virtuosic Violin. When he rose to fame on the musical firmament, he was valued primarily as unrivalled master of art songs. Hugo died young, pathologically insane.

Mansion RotenturnThe mansion Rotenturn is located at the edge of the old town of Slovenj Gradec. Pictures mansion with arcades hallways and beautiful baroque portal with a series of adaptations in the centuries from the original big Tower Defense, first mentioned in 15. century, and from part of the town walls. Rotenturn is still tightly clamped in the city life. Today there are the seat of the administration of the municipality of Slovenj Gradec and the mayoralty. The atrium of the mansion has in recent years become a central area of Slovenj Gradec.

Meškova pathFranc Ksaver Meško, priest and writer, was a diligent Shepherd to his villagers in the village Sele under Uršlja Gora. If it was necessary, he had in the severe summer heat moved on a long way from St. Rok to St. Neža to pray for rain thirsty fields and meadows. On his pilgrimages he usually used such routes to be able to visit as many of the homestead. Meško and his parishioners were, not too long ago, with its steps made a path, that we have in memory of him and his villagers named Meško path.
