1. CLIMATE ZONES.
• The Earth is divided into five main climate zones:– A hot zone between the Tropic of Cancer and the
Tropic of Capricorn and the Equator in the middle.– Two warm zones between the tropics and the polar
circles.– Two cold zones between the polar circles and the
poles.• However, there are different types of climates
within these zones.

A. HOT CLIMATES.• There are three main climates in the hot zone:
– Equatorial.– Tropical.– Desert.
• Temperatures are always high: the average annual temperature is up to 20º C.
• There is little difference in temperatures among the different seasons.
• There are different climates according to precipitation.

A1. RAIFOREST.
• Equatorial climate: there is a lot of precipitation (more than 2000 mm a year) and it is regular throughout the year: all months are rainy.

• In tropical climates precipitation is high (between 500 and 2000 mm.) but not regular throughout the year:– There is a rainy
season in summer– And a dry season in
winter.

• In desert climates there is very little precipitation, no more than 250 mm a year. Most of the months are dry.
