We are continuing our commit-
ment to P-V-U. Participate-

the NAA 2009-2011 goals:
Membership, Mentorship and
Management. Our Membership
Campaign includes recruiting
100 new members and renew-
ing prior members commitment
to the Houston Chapter, Na-
tional Alumni Association and
the University. The Chapter
Calendar of events includes
activities to satisfy the diversity
of our membership. In the spirit of Homecoming, I

The Houston Chapter partici-
pated in Homecoming 2010 by
giving time and treasures back
to Our Dear Prairie View.
Homecoming on the Hill in-
cluded a week filled with several
activities for Alumni and under-
graduate students. This years’
celebration was momentous for
all who participated. Homecoming Alumni business
began on Friday, October15,
2010 with the National Alumni
Association Board Meeting
followed by the General Meet-
ing. The primary purpose of the
Board Meeting was to discuss
forthcoming Convention 2011
and identify candidates for the
2011-2013 Election Ballot.
Houston Chapter member Joan
Garrett was present at the Gen-
eral Meeting to announce elec-
tion candidates. There are sev-
eral Houston Chapter mem-
bers who are candidates for
National positions, they include:
Joyce Justice-Secretary,
LaShonda Williams -Historian
and Roosevelt Huggins Treasurer. Current Presi-
dent Lynn Morris is running
for re-election. Ballots along
with profiles of the candidates
will be mailed to all National
Alumni Association Members in
the Spring 2011.
Homecoming game day began
with the traditional parade,
tailgate parties, and RV 's were
lined up behind Blackshear Field
for what looked like miles. The
Marching Storm brought back
memories of yesterday and
feelings of pride for the accom-
plishments of today. Prairie
View University has come a long
way, we hold multiple SWAC
Championship titles for the
2009 Athletic Season and the
fans came from as far as Califor-
nia and New York in support of
the Panthers. The Football
team’s performance lead to a
day filled with cheers, hugs, and
nostalgic moments as we all
watched Prairie View defeat

Friday, October 15, 2010-The
Prairie View A&M University Houston Alumni Chapter
brought treasures back to our
Alma Mater this Homecoming.
The Men’s Tennis Team won
the Southwestern Athletic
Conference Championship and
have earned the rights to the
Official SWAC Championship
ring. In support of their
outstanding athletic and
academic performance the
Houston Chapter voted to
donate $500.00 towards
the purchase of the team
members championship
ring.

Cochran was elated when noti-
fied of the donation. His com-
ments included, “On behalf of
the Prairie View Men’s Tennis
Team we are very excited and
thankful for the donation. It
could not have come at a bet-
ter time as we have been in
need of assistance to complete
the purchase of the champion-
ship rings. The men’s team is
looking to repeat last year’s
feat to produce the first back
to back run since the 1960’s! The women’s team is attempt-
ing to bring home it’s first
championship and put them-
selves and their team on the
map. Again we want to thank
everyone for their support,
prayers and well wishes as they
have not gone unnoticed!”

-12 before an overflow
homecoming crowd at
Blackshear Field.
Jarvis Wilson recorded the
game’s first big play has
scooped up a fumble and raced
32 yards to Lincoln’s 8 yard line
off a blocked punt from De-
markis Smith. Barbers added
another touchdown with
8:08 left in the game.
Prairie View finished with
408 total offensive yards.
Black threw for 274 yards in
the 18-of-33 passing. Mi-
chael Benson caught six
receptions for 84 yards, Marcus White and Quinton
Spears both tallied seven
defensive tackles.

Banquet was well attended, it
was a success.” Special guest

Dr. George Wright. The Key-
note Speaker was Former Uni-
versity President General Bec-
ton, Class of 1960. “ The
Golden Class of 1960 was pre-
sented medallions as they were
introduced, most of them in
their Gold blazers. Ten more
years and my class of 1970 will
be presented” said Joan Garrett. Proceeds from the
event will benefit the National

tion. The National Alumni As-
sociation hosted the Annual
Homecoming Banquet, which
was held on Friday, October
15, 2010 in the Willie Tempton
Memorial Student Center. The Houston Chapter purchased a

three years, Northern will
automatically become head
coach. He is a 14 year vet-
eran on the collegiate level.
He has made significant con-
tribution to the football
program, Prairie View’s de-
fensive unit has produced
several All Americans in addition to ranking neat the
top of several statistical catego-
ries on the Football Champion-
ship Subdivision (FCS). North-
ern has a six year tenure with
Prairie View.
Heishma Northern has ac-
cepted the position of head
coach in-waiting at Prairie View
A&M University. If coach Fra-
zier should decide to leave the
Northern is Baton Rouge, La
native and Southern University
graduate with a degree in
mathematics. His career in
coach began at Glen Oaks High
School in Louisiana followed by
Moorehouse and seven seasons
at Grambling as defensive coor-
dinator, defensive backs coach,
running backs and special teams coach. Northern has five
SWAC Championships, one as
a player (1993) and four as a
coach.

Golden Lions game was aired on
ESPNU Thursday, October 7 at
6:00 pm. The Houston Chapter
hosted a Watch Party on The
Patio at Bar 5015 Almeda where
Prairie View Alumni and friends
gathered in support of the Mighty
Panther Team. There were over
50 fans in attendance from all
generations. We enjoyed an
evening of friends, food, libations
and football. Panther fans sat on the edge of
their seats throughout the game.
Quarterback K.J. Black threw for
a total 199 yards. Other game
highlights included Shaun Stevens
with 12 receptions for 114 yards.
Linebacker Max Sencherey had a
total of 10 tackles and Brennan
Gordon ended the game with an
interception and 79 yard touch-
down, with a final score in favor
of the Panther team 21-6. The Watch Party is one of the
many social events organized to
help promote membership. Our
most recent recruits include:
Jason Bell, Razak Balogum, Brian
Gamble, George Gibbs, Yolanda
Jones, Ron Lockett, and Sean
Zeno all 1990’s graduates.
