How did you use media technologies in the construction and

research, planning and evaluation stages?

Across the stages, I used a number of media

technologies including:

Research

From a basic area of research, we used the internet to gather and understand the conventions of music videos by watching music videos on YouTube, in addition to the ones we had seen before in on our own time. Having gathered this portion of research, I uploaded it onto the blog, hosted on Blogger, in the form of bullet points and other presentations. This was with music videos embedded in order for the conventions to be easily attributed to, and recognised, in the music videos.

ResearchI did most of my research on the iMac's at school. I found the official music channels on YouTube especially helpful for conventions and being able to link these on the blog.

In addition to the iMac, I also used my phone to conduct research. This was via the YouTube app.

Some of the conventions that I found, we attempted to attribute them to our own music video.

ResearchI could also update my blog by using the Blogger app found on the Google play store on Android. This was useful when I wasn't at school or didn't have access to a laptop. It allowed to upload smaller pieces of texts to the blog or just check over it

The Blogger app was especially useful for adding images, after I had found them on Google search for example.

I downloaded the YouTube app via Google play too, on my phone.

Planning

The main and most important media technology used in the planning stage was the blog, hosted by Blogger.All of our planning documents, treatment, shooting schedule etc are uploaded onto our blog.Planning has its own page on our blog, as you can see in the screenshot below, where all of the relevant posts can be found.

Planning

Another important media technology I used in planning was Pages, a word processing app on the iMac.

This was used to create the planning documents, such as the treatment and shooting schedule.

Also, I could open Pages documents on my Windows laptop. This was helpful as it enabled me to edit the documents when I was away from the iMacs.

Construction

The most important technology used in this process was obvious the Toshiba camera used to film the music video.

I also used the camera to take still images, which could be used as pictures in the other processes such as planning and post-production.

Using a tripod was also important in this process, used to keep the camera still and allow for stable maneuverability

Editing

The software used to edit what we had filmed into our music video was iMovie.

iMovie imports video footage to the Mac using either the FireWire interface on most MiniDV format digital video cameras or the computer's USB port. It can also import video and photo files from a hard drive. From there, the user can edit the photos and video clips and add titles, music, and effects, including basic color correction and video enhancement tools and transitions such as fades and slides.
