The Production Process
Advantages of Automated Production: Automated Accounting Transactions As your brewer is telling the system the amount of materials they used and which lot they selected from, it’s automatically posting all those transactions to your G/L for you in the background as the processes occur. Instant Balance Sheets: Because the system is tracking everything in real time, you can run a balance sheet at any time to see where your money is sitting on the brewery floor. Capture Variances When you’re manufacturing in batches, there’s always going to be a variance. Whether you’re using too much raw materials or too little, you need the ability to analyze those trends to make sure nothing is wasted. OrchestratedBEER has a specific account for variances so you can track every penny.

Wort Production Process:
2 Accounting Transactions Automatically Created for Wort
The relationship map above illustrates the two transactions that were created for
you behind the scenes when your brewer completed the production order for the
wort process. Out of that production order come the issue for production and a
receipt from production.
Transaction #1: Issue for production
The issue for production transaction document recorded not only all the raw
materials that were depleted, but it also created a journal entry for you crediting
your raw material account and debiting your work in progress (WIP) inventory
account for the appropriate amounts.
Transaction #2: Receipt from production
The receipt from production transaction creates a record of when you actually
received the finished wort product into inventory and the actual amount you
received. You may have planned to create 100 barrels of wort, but ended up with
99 barrels because of spillage or other variances that occurred during the wort
production process.
The journal remark in this transaction moves the value of your work in process
account to your semi-finished goods wort account. Again, it’s all happening in the
background, so you don’t have to manually enter this data into spreadsheets or
QuickBooks.
Green Beer Production Process:
2 Accounting Transactions Automatically Created for Green Beer
Just like what we saw in the wort process, there are also 2 accounting transactions
created during the green beer process: 1 for the issuing of materials, and 1 to
account for what we actually used when completed.
Transaction #1: Issue for production
The issue for production in this step tells you the exact quantities and values of the wort
transferred over to be fermented. At this point you can add additional materials like dry
hops. Like the previous steps, these journal entries are created automatically, crediting
raw materials and semi-finished goods (because we added dry hops) while debiting your
work in progress accounts.
Transaction #2: Receipt from production
The receipt from production transaction creates a record of when you actually received
the finished wort product into inventory and the actual amount you received. You may
have planned to create 100 barrels of wort, but you may have ended up with 99
barrels because of spillage or some other variances that occurred during the wort
production process.
The journal remark in this transaction moves the value of your work in process account
to your semi-finished goods wort account. Again, it’s all happening in the background,
so you don’t have to manually enter this data into spreadsheets or QuickBooks.
Bright Beer Production Process:
2 Accounting Transactions Automatically Created for Bright Beer
Once again the interactive relationship map above is built into OrchestratedBEER to help
you visualize the 2 accounting transactions that were automatically created during the
filtration process
Cellar Sheet:
The filtration process is an important step because this is where we recognize our yields. You might utilize 300 barrels
of pre-filtered green beer to create 275 barrels of post filtered bright beer, but it cost you the same. The cellar sheet
above helps brewers visualize and facilitate the filtration process and the transfer of beer from fermenter(s) to bright
tank(s).

The golden arrows indicate that you can drill down into the production order
to see all associated items, ingredients and quantities. Moving a production
order to the following week will automatically adjust the dates and perform a
check to make sure there are no conflicts.
