How to classify matter?
Science 3B Unit 1 Lesson 3
Drawer video
Classifying means. . .
• Sorting things into similar groups.
We can sort matter into. . .
• Solid• Liquids • Gases • Even weird stuff like plasma!
When we talk about solids, liquids and gases. . .
• We are talking about states of matter.
Each state of matter. . .
• Can be described by its particles.• Particles are pieces that make it up.
Solids
• Solids are made of parts that are packed close together
• The parts don’t move too much.• Solids have a certain shape that they stay in.

Liquids
• Are made of parts that are loosely packed. They can move around.
• Liquids take the shape of the container they are in.
• Liquid particles can slide around.

Gases
• Gases will take the shape of any container that you put them in.
• Pieces that make up gases fly around in every direction, they never sit still
• This is good news! That means air will always be moving around our nose!
