When I started my consulting business I had found my niche and had so many great ideas about the range of services I could offer. The reality is 4 years into my business, after listening to my market, my product offering is different to what I thought the market wanted.

Research

Save yourself time and disappointment by researching your market and business idea before you get started. This can save yourself a lot of time, money, effort and energy.

Be sure to know the problem you are solving and how you are adding value to your niche.

4. Niche TargetingAfter you finish your research you need to refine your niche to ensure you understand exactly who your customers will be and what they will expect of your product or service product.

Think of affordable (or free) ways you can get in contact with them and start marketing your product or service directly to your target audience.

5. Create a BudgetHaving a budget is vital to start-up ventures. Even if you only have $50 to spend make sure you know where it needs to go. If you do not keep a track of your expenses you business can start costing you money quickly.

Think about how you will fund the start-up, there are a number of options which may involve crowd funding, investors or using your savings.

Be conscious of the amount of risk you can afford for your startup.
