With less than 7 hours left of the 2008 I sit down topen my last column of the year. 2008 has been anexciting year of discovery, change, learning curves,growth, new friendships, treasured moments withfriends and family and extreme gratitude.

On Christmas day, my mother and I took on the projectof creating our vision boards. After several hours ofcutting out pictures and words from magazines wewere ready to carefully place them on our boards. Ihelped my mom put her board together first since Iwas so pleased she was up to this challenge. Herboard was 4 feet wide by 3 feet tall. She was verypleased with the outcome and felt that this would helpher with her health goals.

Several days earlier I had started collecting my wordsand pictures. After my mother's board was complete, Istarted on mine. Well I must say that I had so muchfun creating my vision board. The end result was 4 feetwide by 6 feet tall. I have it strategically placed in myoffice where I can see it, sit in front of it and joyfully goover every word, picture, feeling, and sensation. Lookout 2009!

A couple days later my brother, sister in-law andnephew arrived from Houston, Texas. We opened eachother's cards and gifts after they were settled in andonce again I was taken back with such gratitude for theopportunity to spend this time with them. This year isvery special since over the past 25 years we havespent so few Christmas's together due to the distancebarrier between us. So tomorrow on New Years day wewill have our turkey supper together and bring in theyear with thanks.

While Canadians are familiar with synthetic fragranceoils, by and large, they have little or no knowledgeabout therapeutic health benefits of genuine, pureessential oils. Unlike North America, in Europe, highquality botanical plant derived essential oils are prescribed for internal use by medical doctors in hospitals. In the last decade essential oils havebecome a popular item, sold everywhere, which raisesthe question, “Does the consumer really know whatthey are getting?”

Essential oils are more then merely plant secretions.The evaporation of essences from plant surface is adefence mechanism against infection by bacteria, fungiand pests. Aromatic plants have a protective aura ofscent, just as all living things have an aura light. Thisaromatic aura also protects plants from excesses ofheat and cold.

To qualify as an essential oil, it must be 100% natural,preferable harvested from certified organic plants orwild crafted, and free of herbicides, pesticides andchemical fertilizer. A description of the biochemicalcompounds (using gas chromatography and massspectrometry) will confirm if an oil is 100% authenticand contaminant-free. There are five different processes for making essential oils:

- Steam distillation (this method produces the highest quality oil, but it must be slow and prolonged

- Solvent extraction- Expression- Maceration- Enfleurage

To assess quality, the label and/or therapeutic factsheet should have these items listed:

Complete Latin name, genus and species The distilled part: it is vital to know which of the plant(flower, leaf, bark etc.) has been distilled The chemotype: recognized internationally, and widelyused in scientific publications, chemotypes, are associated with the Latin scientific denomination,

allows the perfect comprehension of the mode of action of an essential oil, so an oil can be used correctly. The type of soil, altitude, sunlight, climate,and surrounding plant population are all elements thatinfluence the essence manufactured by the plant.

All essential oils are not created equal. The pricereflects many factors, such as the number of kilos ofplant materials needed to make an essential oil, whichis why they are sold in bottles of 5, 10 or 15 ml only.Some oils are even sold by the drop. I.E. a 1 kilo(approx. 1 litre) requires:

6 to 7 kg of clove flower buds, 50 kg of lavendin, 150kg of true lavender, or 3500 – 4000 kg of Damaskflower rose (1 hectare of roses)!

For most of the last few weeks, I have been visited byan uninvited guest, named Confusion. I blamed hervisit on what was happening outside me, but it really allstarted inside. It was a vicious circle. What I thoughtabout, I got more of, and what I got more of, I thoughtmore about, and the more I thought about it ….. Well,you know how that goes.

Like a small child being ignored, Confusion stampedher feet when I thought I could put her in the corner,hoping she would go away; twas not the case. Aboutthat time I started getting nauseated; she even insistedI stay home from work. Of course continuing on mynew exercise routine was out of the question. Sheknew that if I went for a walk, my head would begin toclear and she would be kicked out of her comfy oldchair. There was no ignoring her; I found when I didshe tended to bring home her nasty friends, Resentfuland Victim too!

Little by little I began to feel Peace slip in by way of theshadows; Love filtered through the drawn shades; Joyeven danced across my room every once in a while.Acceptance stood in the doorway with her hands onher hips, eye brows raised as if I dare question herauthority again. I shall not today; and hopefully nottomorrow lest I fancy another visit with old Confusionagain.

Slowly through the fog, I began to realize it wasExpectation that invited Confusion to disrupt my contented life. I can look back and say, even thoughthis was a most uncomfortable visit, it was a greatopportunity for me; for old Confusion made me asksome new questions about myself.

Today I choose to entertain Presence instead, knowingthat if for one reason or another I let Confusion creepin, it is of my own doing. For I can change what it is Iam feeling by changing what it is I am thinking. I canchange what I allow to affect me by paying attention towhat meaning I allot to it, always asking where myoriginal thought came from… my authentic self or

society? And who is the friend I am most comfortablewith anyway, Pride or Peace?

I have begun to realize that when I am gripped with theneed for guarantees in my life it is because I haveopened the door to Fear, and have allowed her and oldfriends merrymaking in my head. The fog lifts quicklywhen I really understand in my heart that I am one withall. That each and every one of us is doing the best wecan at each moment. I am no longer afraid of thefuture, for Love is always there to lead when I remember to get myself out of the way. The sun shinesbrightly when Acceptance is my mentor. Funny thing Inotice about my friends, when I am accepting of them,I find they are more accepting of me. Or is it I ammore accepting of me?

Let me ask you a quick question? Would you consideryourself open-minded? Well, of course you do!

Consider this. What if there 'were no accidents'? Is it possible that perchance your eyes were meant toperuse these words today? Like the time you didn'tfeel like going out with friends, but ended up meetingand marrying the man of your dreams, or the time youopted out of lunch with work mates only to find yourselfbrowsing an old bookstore and finding the book youhad given up all hope of finding. It makes you wonder;doesn't it?

So, I invite you to read on, who knows, you just mightfind something here that tickles your soul, or at veryleast entertains your curiosity.

They said anyone could do it. I, of course, had mydoubts. I assumed that channeling was exclusive tothe chosen few, the gifted, those belonging to the private club. Never, ever, did I think it was for the curious and inexperienced, like me.

Lee Carrol describes channeling as "the word of Spirit(or God) as given to a human or humans for theirenlightenment and information." (Lee Carrol, in 'A NewDispensation, Plain Talk for Confusing Times', Kryon -Book Ten). Recorded history tells us of many who have channeled. The most famous, of course, was EdgarCayce, known as 'The Sleeping Prophet'. Today thereare over 14,000 of his readings on file at the CayceFoundation--the Association of Research andEnlightenment in Virginia Beach.

'Channeling is a skill that can be learned,' were the firstwords I read in 'Opening to Channel' by SanayaRoman and Duane Packer. The owner of the littlestore literally placed the soft paperback in my hand asshe whispered, "This is the book you need." Crinklingmy brows, I wondered what she knew. Curious, I purchased the book.

I hurried home with my new treasure and at oncebegan to read. I shoved each word into my brain likefood to a starving man, taking little time to taste its flavor. I read the background information and thenstudied the process. Before I knew it, the journey hadbegun.

Focus and Concentration

The formula seemed simple and uncomplicated.Learning to quiet the mind was something I did often inmeditation, so swiftly I graduated to the next step. Thisinvolved enhancing one's focus and concentration.Holding my favorite crystal, I directed all thoughtstoward achieving a relaxed state.

Attuning

Next I would expand my skills at attuning to life forceenergy by getting to know the silky red petals of thePetunia plant I had recently purchased for my garden. I was learning to feel its life form and energy. I love togarden; but clearly, I had never established such anintimate bond with my flowers before. I half expected itto open up and hug me.

Personal Trance Posture and Position

Finally, I would learn to develop my personal tranceposture and position. Without question, the most difficult step of all. This involved observing the stillness within, while experiencing and maintaining asense of love and compassion--beyond the norm.Learning to feel centered, loving, balanced, and open,for the duration of the exercise.

With practice, I felt I had passed the required tests thatpreceded each level and was excited to begin. Theauthors said that I would feel a great sense of compassion as my guides joined with me and began tochannel verbally using my vocal cords. I prepared asinstructed and attempted several times. Nothing happened.

Not one to give up without a good fight, I knew therehad to be another way. I realized that either consciously or subconsciously I had decided that thismode of communication was not going to work for me.Somehow I was blocking the process. Back to thedrawing board, I went in search of a Plan B.

were simple; all I needed was a sharp pencil and ablank piece of paper. I prepared as before, but thistime I was armed with my trusty pencil resting lightlybetween my fingers. If the thing was going to move, itsure wasn't getting any help from me.

Time stood still as I lingered quietly in this unfamiliarspace. I seemed to be experiencing a heightenedstate of consciousness. Strange however, I could stillfeel the delicate, soft fur of my faithful canine companions as they slumbered peacefully by my side. Through my open window, I was aware of the angrychatter of squirrels as they went about the business ofprotecting their young, and I could smell the sweet fragrance of freshly cut grass from the park across thestreet.

Contact. It was subtle at first, like fresh rain dancing onmy skin. A warm tingling began in my upper arm andradiated lovingly down my fingertips. Without a doubt,I knew this encounter was genuine. That solitary andunbelievably magical moment, when one single grainof sand slipped unnoticed through the hourglass, willforever be edged in my mind.

Ever so gently, I felt the pencil right itself in my hand.It was like something was seeing and feeling the worldwith me. Soon the energies grew in intensity and myhand began to shake uncontrollably, but with that, thepencil began to move. It took off like a shopper onbargain day at the supermarket.

My hand moved erratically across the paper as itdragged the pencil along, creating lines and circles. Aeuphoric smile broke free on my face and throughclosed eyes, tears ran tenderly down my flushedcheeks. In the stillness I sat in wonder.

I had made contact, but with who or what? Incrediblefeelings coursed through me as I opened my eyes andlooked at the paper. The little drawing resembled anold map of the world. The lines were soft, yet glowedwith love. I grinned as I hid my secret away in a drawer.

I tried the same process again a few days later and tomy great joy and with ease, I experienced the samesensations; but this time the energies seemed evenmore passionate. With more control and purpose,bigger and bolder strokes appeared. It seemed theenergies were melding with mine. We were learning towork together.

I made a point of finding time daily to make the connection with what I felt was a spirit friend. In shorttime, the lines transformed themselves into writtenwords and I was given a name. In plain language Ilearned that I was communicating with an individualenergy that was part of a larger group or vibration.Within a month I was guided to use my 'writingmachine', and the words came easily, filling pages andpages of typewritten notes.

I have to confess; at first my ego reared its ugly headand tried to convince me that I had been chosen forgreatness. Thankfully, I was reminded that every singleone of us is meant for greatness. We merely have tore-member who we are and why we have come. I haverecognized that I was not 'chosen,' but that I chose tomake this happen. I am still trying to understand whatpurpose this all serves for me. The words are sometimes new, but often times a gentle reminder ofmy life purpose.

I believe we ALL have access to this sacred place. Wesimply have to make the choice and ultimately theeffort, to create the link. 'Anyone can do it,' so whynot try; it just might be the journey you were meant totake. Remember; 'there are no accidents'.

Multicultural Blessing

Born to a Chilean social worker and an American lay missionary, Ivonne has had the rich experience of a multicultural upbringing. Exiled from Chile during a military coup, her family relocated to Mexico in the earlyseventies, where she grew up on the grounds of a uniqueecumenical retreat centre that hosted hundreds of peopleeach year. Her religious family background was steepedin her parent's dedication to social justice and humanrights within the progressive Catholic Church, and Ivonnealways felt the full freedom to explore many avenues ofspiritual insight and loved the study of comparative religion. The family approach to health took full advantage of the many options available in Mexico, combining homeopathy, Chinese medicine, and herbalism. The "alternative" was the norm.

Blessed with the support of a network of intuitive practitioners over the years, Ivonne began a path of self-discovery in her early teens, often giving voice to herjourney through songwriting. After completing a degree inLatin American Studies in Northern California, shereturned to Mexico with her partner and married in 1994.The pregnancy and birth of her first child brought forth aprofound healing opportunity through the spiritual connection between mother and child. The importance ofliving that bond consciously blossomed further with thebirth of her second child. Their delivery by a homeopathicmidwife fueled a growing interest in becoming an alternative health practitioner. Ivonne became fixated withthe idea of studying naturopathy and began to lose touchwith the gift of living in the moment...then God stepped in.

In 1998 a severe illness abruptly separated her from herfamily for the first time ever, placing her firmly in the roleof receiver. Through a convalescence period of nearly ayear, Ivonne discovered the many lessons of the experience as she learned about non-judgement, openness, patience, and deep, unconditional love. One

of the greatest gifts was her shift into energetic and intuitive healing, a journey that continues to unfold to thisday.

Her life is busy, and yet this young mom finds time tostudy so she can bring benefit to her friends, family andcommunity. Cora Rennie begins her story in 2004 whenshe was expecting her second child. She visited aChiropractor who did muscle testing with her and wasintrigued by the practice, which opened a whole new doorfor her - to the energies of the body, and the concepts ofnatural healing in general.

After her son was born, she struggled with what she nowknows was Post-Partum Depression, and a throw-back tothe experience of colic with her firstborn. She felt challenged emotionally, spiritually and mentally, and in hersearch for wellness (and without having great successwith muscle testing for herself) she discovered the practice of using a pendulum. One fateful day, instead ofpicking up the pendulum, she found herself simply placingher head into her hands. Unexpectedly, tears began toflow and she had the thought "This is Reiki."

Baby Steps

When she had first been told about an energy techniquecalled Reiki, Cora's reaction was, "I can't feel energy."Nevertheless, she now realized that Reiki was the nextstep, and proceeded with level one training. She practiced on family and friends, eventually continuing onto take her Second Degree training twice, with two different Masters. With Reiki as a daily influence in herlife, her confidence and awareness blossomed and it waswell before her own Master's level training that the notiontook hold of her to become a practitioner in order to treatothers. Cora's natural sense of joy and humility broughtmore strength as she began exploring other modalities inthe alternative healing field, including CranioSacralTherapy, and the work of Emotional Freedom Techniques(EFT).

Her growth in the use of these modalities has come aboutbecause she practices diligently on herself and the family.For example, when her seven-year-old daughter recentlyhad to undergo dental surgery, she employed EFT for fourdays prior to the procedure. She and her daughter

"tapped" again just before and after the surgery. Thenurses were amazed at what a good patient this littleseven-year-old was, and her recovery was speedy.Where she was expected to feel drowsy and out of sortsfrom the after-effects of the anesthesia, she instead waswide-awake and wanted to go out and play. The onlything that this little girl complained about was that theyhadn't given her the tooth they extracted! When she laterdiscovered that the tooth fairy visited anyway, all was wellonce again.

Knowledge Brings Confidence

Throughout this journey into alternative therapies, Cora isconstantly researching. She is a sponge for knowledgeand wants to know all that she can to assist herself, herfamily, and now that she has opened her doors professionally - her community. A Military Life

Cora's compassionate nature has a lot to do with herlifestyle and the influence that her husband's employmenthas on their family life. The Beginning of the Journey…

The three-year-old child with third degree burns on herface could tell the difference. She knew people werelooking at her oddly after the accident. They were treatingher different than before. She began to feel abandonedand alone. When she looked into a mirror, all she sawwas ugly burns, still in the healing process. They scaredher and she began to withdraw.

As she grew, the burns healed, leaving minimal physicalscarring, but the scars in her psyche ran deep. She withdrew more, developing a passion for books and animals. Evolving into adulthood brought Nadine throughmore difficult and traumatic experiences and today she isgrateful. She is grateful for the challenges that taught herhow to be kinder, more empathetic and more understanding of others who struggle.

Over the Years…

Nadine Gordon is a country girl born and raised inAlberta. Her love of books drove her to continually studyand research things that intruiged her. Along with herlove of books, came a passionate love for writing. Overthe years, she has been published in various papers andmagazines including a Calgary Magazine, Horses All;where she wrote an article about the 1994 round up of thewild horses of Suffield. A similar article was featured inthe Strathmore Standard.

Her passion for animals particularly horses; led her tostudy and acquire her Animal Sciences Diploma. Nadine was an officer who worked in the CorrectionalField for fifteen years. She trained in self-defense andvarious other courses such as counseling to assist herwith Government work.

Finally, struggling with exhaustion, anxiety and depression, she was diagnosed with post-traumatic stresssyndrome, which forced her to leave her employment as aCorrectional Officer behind. Prescribed medications didnot help. After 4 to 6 months, Nadine sought out wellnessfrom other, more natural sources. She turned to yoga,

engaged in psychological counseling and was drawn toexperience and study Reiki. Through these studies, shefound her way out of Correctional work, and into the worldof natural healing. It was a perfect fit as she began tolearn how to help others overcome their challenges andlive healthier, happier lives that are more productive.

What is a DreamWalker?

Nadine refers to herself as a Dreamwalker. She definesherself as 'One who has awakened and is walking herdream.' Her role is to, 'assist others to walk their dreams.' She states that, "A Dreamwalker is a person who is ableto traverse all worlds in any dimension, past present orfuture through the light or darkness to access hiddendreams in order to bring about wholeness or healing forthe client or self. This can be done in a lucid state or out-of-body trance.

A Dreamwalker will bring you what you need, alchemy. Itmay be a message from the other side, healing, counseling, a laugh, exercise, meditation, or change indiet. You will be given work to do so you stay groundedand in balance, this enables you to retreat to your dreamsbut live in the present."

Atthe Sanctuary, she teaches various workshops entitled,Latent Energy Level 1 and Advanced, as well as a Coursein Animal Wisdom. She also sees clients for private consultations by appointment, and usually utilizes theUsui System of Reiki in her work.

In her counseling work, Nadine strives to assist her clientsin balancing mind, body and spirit. She utilizes psychometry, her intuition and her counseling background, as well as everything she has learnedthrough her extensive research.

Even as a child I always knew that it would be my life's missionto help people. I brought home stray pets and I was alwayssharing my food and toys. My father was a preacher and wedid not have much money. In those days preachers lived mostly from love offerings from their congregation. When thecongregation was having money struggles they could notafford to give the preacher and his family money.

Many times I remember eating dandelions. My mom becamean expert in preparing dandelions - dandelion greens, stew,broth, etc. I do know what it was like to go to bed hungry and Iwould lie in bed as a child visualizing eating a turkey dinnerwith stuffing and all the trimmings and finishing it off with pumpkin pie. I found to my surprise that this did work and I didn't feel quite as hungry. Of course there was that little, gnawing, irritating pain in my stomach asking for food.

I started to work very young cleaning dog kennels and workingat my paper route. Every cent I made went to the family forfood. My desire to help others became even stronger, so theywould not have to experience what I did. As I got older, I cameto the conclusion that I really could change my world and thepeople in and around it by changing my negative thinking topositive thinking, one new, positive thought and one new actionat a time.

I discovered the Affirmation process quite by accident. Whenmy son David was born with crooked feet I did an Affirmationthat he would walk. At that time I did not even know what theword Affirmation meant, much less how it worked. I looked atmy baby son and said with conviction to him, "David you willwalk." I told others that he would walk and I kept that belief atthe forefront of my mind. Then I was introduced to a wonderfulorganization the Shriners, who accepted David and took careof the surgery, the lengthy hospital stay and after treatment. MyAffirmation, that I said with love that only a mother could feel forher child, worked!

I did not question how it would work; I just believed with all myheart that it would work. Today one would never guess thatDavid ever had trouble with his feet. I knew the 'what' and Godknew the 'how.'

In 1989, while I was still involved in real estate, I wrote my firstbook, Affirmations Your Passport to Happiness, which is now in

its 7th edition. Then I retired from the Corporate World to discover my life was just beginning. I created my websitewhere I advertise all my products-various Hard Cover Books, e-books, Tapes, Cards of Life, Affirmation Booklets, Children'sprograms, etc. I have never looked back as this second careeris so rewarding, totally fulfilling and wonderful that I look forward to every day with excitement and enthusiasm. I am sohonored and blessed that I have and am teaching this wonderful miraculous process to others.

Many wonderful people and opportunities have come into mylife as a result of my Affirmations. Kathy graduated with honors on February 28th 2003, from TheAlberta Institute of Massage and is a registered member ingood standing with the Natural Health Practitioners of Alberta(NHPC). What is Onsen?

Onsen is an advanced therapeutic technique, which combinesmodalities of Osteopathy and massage. Adding a perfect complimentary modality to the other elements of her practice, Kathy was drawn to the gentlenessof Ortho-Bionomy, and is very excited to bring this modality toher community.

What is Ortho-Bionomy?

Ortho-Bionomy can help with such conditions as:

Headaches, back pain, sprains/strains, sports injuries, acuteinjuries, knee problems, and acute and chronic pain.

Ortho-Bionomy facilitates the therapeutic process and promotes natural body alignment, balance and pain relief. The practitioner works with you to identify areas of discomfort, tension and pain as well as areas of comfort andease of movement. The use of gentle movements, comfortable positioning and compression are incorporated.No forceful movements are used.

The training to become certified in Ortho-Bionomy is intense,and Kathy is currently completing the 505 required hours inthe Practitioner program. The program consists of over 15 different required classes, as well as over 10 different electivesto choose from. Once completed, she will have the option ofcontinuing on to the Advanced Practitioner level, which isanother 500 hours of study.

Ortho-Bionomy is a system that allows us to integrate ourphysical, emotional and mental experiences. Once the clientbecomes more aware of their own physical tensions, they cangradually learn to connect both the physical and energetic patterns within the body to affect a change without necessarily engaging physically

Massage Therapy is not a requirement to learn Ortho-Bionomy, but Kathy feels fortunate to be able to incorporate these techniques into her massage sessions. Reiki Master Stephanie Monsen's first personal experiencewith a healing modality called the Yuen Method™ in May2006 was, as she put it, "spectacular". This experiencewas the final step on a journey of self-discovery and learning that led her to create Watersong Wellness.
