Adapted by Mandy Peirick, Susan Gray School - Nashville, TN, 2015 From "I Can By A Super Friend" By Lisa Grant & Rochelle Lentini, 2002

It is fun to play with my friends at school. In our class, we all work together to be SUPER FRIENDS!!!

I can learn to be a SUPER FRIEND by following 3 steps:

1. Play with my friend.

2. Use my words.

3. Listen to my friend.

1. Play with my friend- Being a SUPER FRIEND means we are at the same

place at the same time.

We can play together in lots of different ways:

Play with the same toy and take turns.

Play with 2 of the same toys in the same way.

Play with different toys together.

2. Use my words- Being a SUPER FRIEND means that I use my words

when I play with my friends.

I can use my words in lots of different ways. I can:

Ask my friend to play.

Talk about what we are playing with.

Compliment my friend.

Make suggestions for things to do.

- Do you want to play?

- Let’s play with blocks.

- Tap on the shoulder.

- Give a toy.

- This is a dump truck.

- This truck is red.

- This truck can go fast.

- I like your picture.

- You did a great job.

- Let’s build a castle.

- We could make a bridge.

3. Listen to my friend: Being a SUPER FRIEND means that I listen to my

friends.

I can listen to my friends in different ways:

When a friend asks me to play, I should say “yes” because it is fun to play with friends and it makes my friends happy.

When a friend asks me a question, I should always try to answer them.

When a friend asks me to do something, I try to do what they ask. They may ask me to share a toy, play in a certain way, do something with toys, or give something to them.

Since we are all learning different things, some of my friends may talk in different

ways. They may use:

• Words

• Pictures

• Pointing

• Buttons or devices

• Talking hands

No matter what ways my friends talk to me, being a SUPER FRIEND means I should always

listen and respond.

My friends and my teachers are all happy when I am a super friend. I can be a super friend with all my friends

in the class. It is really fun to be a super friend!

Let’s Remember! To be a SUPER FRIEND I:

1. Play with my friend.

2. Use my words.

3. Listen to my friend.
