What you get on the China internship•Organized internship position Our

in-country partners, TTC will make arrangements for you to spend 4.5 months in a reputable school in China. You will be placed with at least one other intern in a typical Chinese school, unless you’d prefer to be placed alone!

•Full TEFL training If you’re not already qualified, i-to-i will help you get fully trained up and TEFL-ready. The internship program includes a hands-on classroom TEFL course in Beijing before teaching begins.

•Monthly spending allowance You’ll receive monthly payments of 2,000 RMB from your school and a 2,500 RMB bonus upon completion of your internship. It’s important to note that the cost of living in most of China is considerably lower than that in the west – a bottle of mineral water can cost less than 5 RMB!

•Accommodation included During your internship with TTC you’ll have your own private bedroom in shared accommodation at no extra expense.

• In-country support The minute you step out of baggage claim at the Beijing Capital International Airport, you will be greeted by a TTC representative. TTC will be there to support you throughout your internship and are contactable 24 hours a day while you are in China.

•Comprehensive 7 day induction program TTC has developed an extensive orientation program to ensure you’re prepared for the months to come living and working in China. You’ll have a welcome dinner with the other interns, learn how to get the most from your students in China and even do your i-to-i Classroom Course in China to ensure it’s fresh in your memory!

•One day tour of Beijing You’ll get the chance to see the Great Wall, the Ming Tombs, the famous Bird’s Nest Olympic Stadium and watch an amazing Chinese

•Mandarin lessons You’ll have 6 hours of Mandarin lessons during your orientation, so you can pick up bits of the local lingo and go about your daily life a bit more easily!

•All meals Monday to Friday On school days, Monday – Friday, you will receive all 3 meals for free at your school. If your school is unable to provide you with free meals, you’ll receive extra spending allowance so you can pay for your own meals. Often, you’ll have a kitchen in your accommodation where you’ll be able to cook your own meals. Please note that some interns are able to pack up food for the weekend from their free meals.

•Visa assistance You’ll be given comprehensive guidance in arranging the visa for your time in China by TTC. Please note your internship fee does not include either your initial visa fee, or the 2,400RMB visa cost, payable when you arrive in China.

What are the requirements? •140 hours of TEFL training - To make this simple, we can

offer our internationally recognized 140 hour TEFL Course at a special price if you choose to do TTC’s internship. You’ll do 120 hours of online training before you set off and then wrap up your training with an additional 20 hours of classroom training in Beijing. Upon completion of your internship, you will receive a joint certificate from i-to-i and TTC to represent your 5 months of TEFL experience in China!

•Already TEFL qualified? You can still apply for TTC’s internship program, just call i-to-i’s TEFL team to find out more.

•You need to speak English at a native-level of fluency. You DO NOT need to speak any other language.

•You need to have a valid police check completed from your home country

•You need to have completed high school/secondary school (university degree is NOT required!).

•You need to be at least 18 years old (please be aware that a level of life experience is required as you’ll be immersing yourself in a new culture)

•You need to be resilient and open-minded! If you’re the kind of person thinking of traveling abroad, chances are you already are very accepting of other cultures. This is important as you’ll be in a brand new environment where many things might shock or surprise you. Things may get tough at times, so it’s always important to remember that you’re a visitor in another country and this is their way of life. At the end of the day, you’re traveling abroad to embrace these differences, not change them.

•You need to arrive in China on August 21st 2013. If you’re already traveling, it shouldn’t be a problem, just speak to our team.

Why do the internship rather than a normal TEFL job?Support, support and more support! On top of all the great benefits, there’s far more you’ll gain from this internship. When traveling and teaching abroad independently, you might find yourself in a rut and only have yourself to depend on. On this internship, you’ll have the support of TTC’s expert in-country team who will be there to help smooth over any bumps you may encounter along the way.

TTC’s internship program has been developed especially for teachers who are new to TEFL. There are specific inclusions in the program which differ to standard TEFL jobs in China, including shorter contracts, tailored orientation for new teachers, additional support during your placement, pre-arranged accommodation, and the fact that you don’t need a university degree or years of teaching experience!

Who runs the internship program?i-to-i works with different organizations abroad to provide new EFL teachers with a more supported introduction to English teaching abroad. In China i-to-i works with Teach and Travel China, who have created the internship program and operate it from their base in Beijing.

As a reputable organization, they know the ins and outs of the school systems in China as well as the country itself. TTC staff will be able to give you expert advice and support throughout your internship. TTC is solely responsible for your internship program and will be your “right-hand man” to help you along the way.

Before you set off on the China Internship, i-to-i will provide you with comprehensive TEFL training to make sure you’re prepared for life in the classroom from day one.

FAQsQ: What is the deadline to complete the 140 hour TEFL course? A: You are required to complete all online elements of your 140 hour TEFL course by July 21st 2013. You may be rejected from the program if you do not complete your training by this time. Please note that the last 20 hours of your course will take place in Beijing during your orientation.

Q: How much money should you take with you when you arrive in China? A: Approximately RMB4000 is recommended to keep ticking over until you get your first allowance (visit http://www.xe.com/ucc/ to get the current exchange rate).

Q: What visa do you need to from the Chinese Embassy and how long is it valid for? A: As the teacher intern role is classed as a cultural exchange programme, you will apply for an F visa which lasts for 60 days from date of entry into China, subject to you arriving in China no more than 90 days from the date your visa is issued. You will convert the F visa to a 6 month visa during your orientation in Beijing. This costs 2,400RMB.

Q: How many hours will you work weekly? A: You will be required to work 35 hours a week at the school, including face-to-face teaching, preparing lessons, meetings, activities, etc. In the majority of cases, 15 face-to-face hours should be delivered to the students every week. However, the minimum hours are 10 hours per week.

Q: What kind of school will you be placed in? A: Schools in China vary greatly, as they do in all education systems. Schools are usually large with 2,000 to 5,000 students, and there’s usually a mixture of private and government schools. Students are in session Monday – Friday. Schools generally have good equipment and resources, although English resources may be limited. Your TEFL course will train you to deal with limited resources and provide you with classroom ideas and resources to take with you.

Q: How many students will there will be in your class? A: Typically, your class will have 25-50 students depending on the age of the students. Classes are smaller if the students are younger. You should expect classes of around 50 for teaching senior levels.

Q: Do interns have a point of contact at the school? A: Yes, there will be an English speaking staff member at the school to assist with your integration into the school. This is usually one of the Chinese English teachers.

Q: How many semesters do the schools have? A: In the vast majority of schools there are two semesters in each academic year of about 4.5 to 5 months. The first semester starts in early September. The second starts in late February and is dependent on the timing of the Chinese New Year. Some interns have had the choice of staying on… you’ll soon find out if you want to!

Q: Will interns have to pay tax? A: No, you will not have to pay income tax on this program.

Q: Will you have any spare time during the internship to explore? A: You can arrange your travel on weekends and public holidays. There are two main public holidays per year which last a week each.

Q: What is the semester end date? A: The semester end date is usually mid-June. The actual date will be confirmed by school upon arrival and may be up to 2 weeks later.

Q: Can I be placed together with a friend?
