I AM A YOUNG URBANIST KEEN ON qUESTIONING AND RESEARCHING CONTEMPORARY URBAN SPACE UNDER ITS MULTIPLE FACETS AND CONTRADICTIONS.
DRAWING ON A vARIED AND MULTIDISCIPLINARY ACADEMICAL BACKGROUND, I HAvE DEvELOPED A CRITICAL AND PERSONAL APPROACH TO PLANNING AND DESIGN ISSUES.
IN MY WORK, I ALWAYS TRY TO PUT COMPLExITY AND SENSITIvITY (TOWARDS USERS, SOCIAL ISSUES AND ENvIRONMENT) AT THE vERY HEART OF THE URBAN DEvELOPMENT PROCESS.

BELIEvE IN THE CAPITAL IMPORTANCE OF A SENSISTIvE AND DEEP URBAN
ANALYSIS.
THE USE OF A WIDE RANGE OF METHODS AND TECHNIqUES ALLOWS TO
RECORD ESSENTIAL FEATURES OF THE CITY (URBAN BLOCKS AND BUILDINGS
TYPOLOGY STRUCTURE, LEGIBILITY, TOWNSCAPE AND PUBLIC REALM
qUALITIES AND DEFICIENCIES, MOvEMENT PATTERNS AND ECONOMICAL
vITALITY, FOR INSTANCE). THE SYSTEMATIC RECORD OF THE "ESSENCE" OF
A PLACE REPRESENTS A SOLID BASE TO INFORM A RESPECTFUL AND GENTLE
INTERvENTION ON THE ExISTING URBAN REALM.

OF WESTMINSTER, 2014) AIMING THE REGENERATIONT OF THE "SOUTHALL GASWORKS"
(EALING, LONDON) IS DISPLAYED. ON THE BOTTOM, FUNCTIONAL STRATEGIES FOR
MOvEMENT/LANDUSE AND DEvELOPMENT PRINCIPLES FOR THE SAME PROJECT
("SOUTHALL GASWORKS" REGENERATION) ARE ILLUSTRATED.
GOOD AND EFFICIENT LOCAL-SCALE AND DETAILED URBAN DESIGN CAN ONLY BE ACHIEvED IF A
STRONG AND COHERENT STRATEGICAL vISION IS PREvIOUSLY DEvELOPED. IN THIS PERSPECTIvE,
IT IS vITAL TO ANCHOR EvERY PROJECT INTO A SOLID, LARGE-SCALE AND CONTExT-SENSITIvE
FRAMEWORK.
MORE PARTICULARLY, I BELIEvE THAT GREEN INFRASTRUCTURE AND MOvEMENT NETWORKS HAvE
A FUNDAMENTAL LINKING AND INTEGRATIvE POWER. FOR THIS REASON, I ALWAYS PUT THESE
TWO ELEMENTS AT THE HEART OF MY PROJECT STRATEGIES.

THE PROJECT IS STRUCTURED AROUND THREE STRATEGICAL PRINCIPLES: SMART
ECOFRIENDLY MULTIMODALITY , URBAN AGRICOLTURE AS A CATALYST OF URBAN IDENTITY
AND LOCALLY ROOTED GREEN URBANITY. TO ACCOMADATE THE PROJECT OBJECTIvES,
A CAPILLARY GREEN MATRIx IS INTRODUCED WITHIN THE NEIGHBOURHOOD AND THE
SURROUNDINGS OF THE CROSSRAIL STATION SHAPED INTO AN ACTIvE GATEWAY.
I BELIEvE THAT WHAT DISTINGUISHES A SUCCESSFULL MASTERPLAN IS ITS CAPACITY TO
EFFICIENTLY RESPOND TO THE CONTExTUAL ISSUES AND CONSTRAINTS OF A SITE AND REvEAL
THE LOCAL POTENTIAL AT THE SAME TIME.

ON THE BOTTOM, A CODING METHOD USED FOR THE MASTERPLANNING (UNIvERSITY OF
WESTMINSTER, 2014) OF THE «SOUTHALL GASWORKS» SITE (BOROUGH OF EALING,
LONDON) IS SHOWN. THE DEvELOPED CODE SUGGESTS TO DIvIDE THE PROJECTED
NEIGHBOURHOOD INTO A LIMITED NUMBER OF TYPOLOGIES OF URBAN BLOCKS AND
STREETS. GUIDELINES AND DEvELOPMENT INDICATIONS HAvE THEN BEEN FORMULATED
FOR EvERY TYPE OF SPACE.
WELL-DESIGNED URBAN ENvIRONMENTS ARE NOT ONLY ACHIEvED THROUGH APPLICATION OF
RIGID FORMS OF PLANNING. IN SOME CASES, DEFINITION OF «SOFTER» INSTRUMENTS, LIKE
DESIGN GUIDELINES OR URBAN CODING FOR INSTANCE, CAN CONSTITUTE vALID MEASURES.
THIS PAGE SHOWCASES ExAMPLES OF SUCH DESIGN OUTPUTS. ON THE TOP, A SAMPLE OF
GUIDELINES FOR THE DESIGN OF INCLUSIvE AND qUALITY-ORIENTED PUBLIC SPACES IS

PERSONAL URBAN PROJECTS : ON TOP, THE REGENERATION OF A DISUSED RAILWAY EDGE
IN FRIBOURG; ON THE BOTTOM, A GREEN SPINE DESIGNED FOR THE DEvELOPMENT OF A
GREENFIELD AREA IN GENEvA (SWITZERLAND).
I FIRMLY BELIEvE THAT CONTEMPORARY URAN SPACE NEEDS TO BE DESIGNED TO FULFILL THE
COMPLExITY OF PEOPLE NEEDS. DURING A PERIOD OF PROJECT BUILDING, IT IS IMPORTANT TO
PRODUCE IMAGES CAPABLE OF GIvING EFFICIENT INDICATION OF THE ExPECTED CHARACTER OF
A NEWLY DESIGNED ENvIRONMENT TO ALLOW PEOPLE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE DEvELOPMENT
PROCESS.
