Herm comes in from the fields or the barn every day at noon toeat lunch and to l isten to the news on the radio. Wednesday, thes<ies looked dark to the north and Herm wondered what themeatherman would say about the weather. When Kay turned on theradio, there was a news f lash about the weather. They missed thlsshort news report,, so they l istened closely for i t to be repeated. Then their friend. the weattrermait, came .on the air with a weatherbs-tlletin, the latest news about the weather. He warned of severe:hunder and l ightnj-ng, heavy rain with possi-ble 'hai l , 'and probable

Herm and Kay knew how ttre big pieces of ice coutd damage theirsrops. It could-bbat theh into the ground. They knew howh"azardous it could be for ttre animals, too, how it could hurt them,and-Ehaf-the hi-gh water of a flood could present as much danger.Ttrey hurried outside to get the animals into the barn. It hadatready begun to drizzle and they could see the l ightning f lash in*,he sky thiough tne lignt rain.
Maybe it would just rain, but they h9d,to taEe the necessaly
Frecautions'with the animals because of the hgzEid-of possible hailanE-flooAs. They wished they could protect the crops .ln the_
