Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time February 19, 2017 — Matthew 5:38-48
“So be perfect, just as your heavenly Father is perfect.” As he often does in Matthew’s gospel, Jesus brings us back to Leviticus, tying up the Old and New Testaments as a neat set of teachings rather than an either/or. If we choose proximity to God, we will become more like God. This isn’t vague mysticism. It’s the same process that’s engaged in families and in friendships, in nations and in gangs. Guilt isn’t the only thing that gets spread by association. So does kindness and compassion. Or cynicism and pessimism. Violent people seek the like-minded, and so do peacemakers. If we hang out in God circles, the ways of God should start to rub off on us. If we want to be more like Jesus, all we have to do is keep closer company with Jesus. When I look in the mirror, I see my mother and older sisters in a raised brow, a sideways smile. I don’t remember mimicking their expressions, but there they are. In the same way, my grandmother’s generosity sometimes pops up, or an old pastor’s wisdom, a friend’s patience. Collect your community thoughtfully, for your future is all around you. How are others helping you to become who you want to be? Who may be hindering that process?

Fr. Heuberger will be gone on vacation this week, leaving Sunday evening the 19th and back on Friday evening the 24th. Special Needs First Communion this weekend, Saturday, February 18th, at the 5:30 pm Mass. There are fifteen children receiving their First Communion. God does not desire us to be isolated and alone. In our prayerful support today for these children and families we express our communion. The joy of our communion with God and one another is the joy of our salvation. May the Lord’s own peace be with these children and their families.

ALL catechists and aides WILL meet at 6:30 pm on Monday, February 20 for our Lesson planning In-Service. We will be planning the next four weeks of lessons. Please bring your calendar and Catechist Manual. These meetings are very important and are for YOU, to give you the support needed to be an effective Catechist. They are also NOT optional.
Attention Parents of children in their Second Year, preparing to receive the Sacrament of First Communion, there are still 32 families who have NOT picked up their First Communion Book and packet. Please come by the office to pick up yours as soon as possible. Cost is $15.00 per family. There are also 20 children who have NOT chosen a date for the First Communion Mass. The two available dates are Sunday, May 14th at 10:15 am Mass in English and Saturday, May 20th at 5:30 pm Mass in English.

Mateo 5:38-48
"Sé perfecto, como tu Padre del cielo es perfecto." En el evangelio de Mateo, Jesús nos lleva de regreso a Levítico, uniendo el Antiguo y el Nuevo Testamento como un grupo de enseñanzas conjuntas no exclusivas. Si escogemos la proximidad con Dios nos volveremos como El. Aquí no hay un misticismo. Es el mismo proceso que ocurre en familias, amistades, naciones y pandillas. La culpa no es lo único que se esparce por asociación. También pasa Lo mismo con la bondad y la compasión o el cinismo y el pesimismo. Los violentos buscan mentes simi-lares y lo mismo ocurre con los pacifistas. Si queremos parecernos a Jesus, todo lo que debemos hacer es mantenernos cerca de El. Cuando me miro al espejo, veo a mi madre y mis hermanas levantando la ceja y sonriendo de medio lado. No recuerdo imitar sus expresiones, pero ahí están. De vez en cuando, surge la generosidad de mi abuela, la sabiduría de aquel viejo pastor o la paciencia de aquel amigo. Escoge cuidadosamente tu comunidad, tu futuro depende de ello. ¿Cómo te ayudan los demás a convertiré en quieres ser? ¿Quiénes entorpecen dicho proceso?

NO HAY CLASE el lunes 20 ni el martes 21 de febrero.
TODOS los catequistas y ayudantes se reunirán a las 6:30 pm el Lunes 20 de Febrero para nuestra Planificación de la Lección. Estaremos planeando las próximas cuatro semanas de clases. Por favor traiga su calendario y Manual del Catequista. Estas reuniones son muy importantes y son para USTED, para darle el apoyo necesario para ser un Catequista efectivo. Tampoco son opcionales.
Atención Padres de niños en su Segundo Año, preparándose para recibir el Sacramento de la Primera Comunión, todavía hay 32 familias que NO han recogido su Libro y Paquete de Primera Comunión. Mensaje del Padre Heuberger
Padre Heuberger se irá de vacaciones esta semana, dejando el domingo por la noche el 19 y volver el viernes por la noche el 24. Primera Comunión de los niños especiales este fin de semana, sábado 18 de febrero, en la Misa de las 5:30 pm. Hay quince niños recibiendo su Primera Comunión. Dios no desea que seamos aislados y solos. En nuestro apoyo orante hoy por estos niños y familias expresamos nuestra comunión. El gozo de nuestra comunión con Dios y el otro es el gozo de nuestra salvación. Que la paz del Señor esté con estos niños y sus familias.
