“Even though I should have to die with you, I will not deny you.” The longer I live, the more Peter's humiliation during the passion story affects me. I avert my eyes when he impetuously insists he will die with Jesus before he would ever disown him. I feel like crying every time he denies Jesus—not once, but over and over. Peter’s not the man he thought he was. He’s a lot more self-serving and self-protecting than he ever dreamed. What shames me in Peter's exposure is my own. I too am nowhere near as brave and virtuous as I like to believe. I’m a good friend in a pinch, but not in a punch. When push comes to shove, it’s obvious to anyone—but especially to me—that I don’t know the man Jesus at all, not at all. I want to survive in this world, and to do that, compromise and concession is the name of the game. This inconvenient truth drives us back to the confessional truth drives us back to the confessional, and back to the drawing board of our baptismal commitment. Don’t we know, Paul warns us, that we are baptized into the death of Christ? If not, we should. Which character of the passion story speaks to you most powerfully this Passion Sunday? What does he/she teach you about yourself?

"Aunque me sea forzoso el morir contigo, yo no te negaré". Cuanto más vivo, más me afecta la humillación de San Pedro durante la historia de la Pasión. Desvío la mirada cuando impetuosamente insiste en que va a morir con Jesús antes de que lo repudie. Tengo ganas de llorar cada vez que niega a Jesús, no solo una vez, sino una y otra vez. San Pedro no es el hombre que pensó que era. Es mucho más egoísta y auto-protector de lo que jamás haya soñado. Lo que me avergüenza de la exposición de San Pedro es mío. Yo tampoco soy tan valiente y virtuoso como creo. Soy un buen amigo en un apuro, pero no en un golpe. Cuando se trata de empujar, es obvio para cualquiera, pero especialmente para mí, que no conozco al hombre Jesús para nada, para nada. Quiero sobrevivir en este mundo, y para hacer eso, compromiso y concesión es el nombre del juego. Esta verdad incómoda nos lleva de regreso al confesionario y de vuelta al plano de nuestro compromiso bautismal. ¿No sabemos, San Pablo nos advierte, que estamos bautizados en la muerte de Cristo? Si no, deberíamos. ¿Qué personaje de la historia de la Pasión te habla con más fuerza este Domingo de la Pasión? ¿Qué te enseña sobre ti?

Holy Week “Unless the grain of wheat” (John 12). During these final days of Lent we are called to believe in the grain of wheat. We are not asked to believe in the scriptures, or even eternal life, but to believe in the grain of wheat, which falls into the earth and dies and springs up to produce many fold.

Prayers We are praying for Fred Gray. He died on Sunday, March 18th, at his home. May this be a time of consolation and peace for the family and loved ones. We commend him to the mercies of the Lord. Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Vincent’s on Thursday, April 5th at 3:30 pm. Luncheon to follow in Reedy Hall. Rosary and vigil at Golden’s Chapel on Wednesday, April 4th, at 4–7 pm. Rosary at 6:30 pm . Burial on Friday, April 6th at 9:30 am at Willamette National in Portland. Fred was a veteran. There are four children.

Palm Sunday Today we enter into church in procession, with palms. We enter into Holy Week. Lent is no longer a journey, now Lent is a vigil. We have arrived at the place of the Lord’s Passion & Death. Now we are to watch and pray . . .to keep vigil. “Were you there?”

Holy Thursday There are seven Thursdays in Lent, this one is called Holy Thursday. The scriptures for today tell us we are one body, one spirit in Christ. But we forget. We imagine we are not. What we have to be is what we already are. God is one bread and one cup. God has given us a share in the one bread and the one cup.

Good Friday We read the Passion according to St. John today. There is suffering, and there is passion. The Passion is suffering with great feeling and love. John in his Gospel points out we begin to plumb the depths of God’s love when looking at the crucifix.

Easter Vigil In the creed we say ‘descended into hell,’ into all those places where there was no light, into those places we never thought God could be. Tonight we light the Easter fire and celebrate light.

The Feast of the Annunciation, March 25th When this falls during Holy week, this year Palm Sunday, it is transferred to a date after Easter, this year April 9th.

Baptisms & Profession of Faith at the Easter Vigil Tonight we pray to all our saints and those who have gone before us to stand with us as we go to the baptismal font and bless the waters. We do the baptisms, then all renew our baptismal promises. There are 45 receiving baptism and entering the Church.

Semana Santa "A menos que el grano de trigo" (Juan 12). Durante estos días finales de la Cuaresma estamos llamados a creer en el grano de trigo. Domingo de Ramos Hoy ingresamos a la iglesia en procesión, con palmas. Entramos a la Semana Santa. La Cuaresma ya no es un viaje, ahora la Cuaresma es una vigilia. Hemos llegado al lugar de la Pasión y Muerte del Señor. Ahora debemos observar y orar. . .para vigilar. "¿Usted estaba allí?"

Jueves Santo Hay siete jueves en Cuaresma, este se llama Jueves Santo. Las escrituras para hoy dinos que somos un solo cuerpo, un solo espíritu en Cristo. Pero nos olvidamos Nos imaginamos que no somos. Lo que tenemos que ser es lo que ya somos. Dios es un pan y una copa. Dios nos ha dado una participación en un solo pan y una taza.

Viernes Santo Leemos la Pasión según San Juan hoy. Hay sufrimiento, y hay pasión. La Pasión está sufriendo con gran sentimiento y amor. Juan en su Evangelio señala que comenzamos a sondear las profundidades del amor de Dios al mirar el crucifijo. Vigilia Pascual En el credo decimos 'descendió al infierno', en todos esos lugares donde no había luz, en aquellos lugares que nunca pensamos que Dios podría ser. Esta noche encendemos el fuego de Pascua y celebramos la luz. La Fiesta de la Anunciación, 25 de marzo Cuando esto cae durante la Semana Santa, este año el Domingo de Ramos, se transfiere a una fecha posterior a la Pascua, este año 9 de abril. Bautismos y Profesión de Fe en la Vigilia Pascual Esta noche oramos a todos nuestros santos y aquellos que nos han precedido para que nos acompañen mientras vamos al pila bautismal y bendice las aguas. Nosotros hacemos el bautismos, entonces todos renuevan nuestras promesas bautismales. Hay 45 recibiendo el bautismo y entrando a la Iglesia.

Rite of Election of Catechumens & Candidates 2018 Easter Vigil

The Catechumens and Candidates have found strength in God’s grace and support in our community’s prayers and example. Now they ask that after the celebration of the Rite of Election and The Call to Continuing Conversion and the Scrutinies, they be allowed to participate in the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and the Eucharist.

El Rito de Elección de Catecúmenos y Candidatos
