He was amazed at their lack of faith. Who wouldn’t cooperate with a miracle if it came their way? Many of us, in fact. Me, for one. “Three decades ago I had chronic pain in my wrist from an early shattering of the bone. Someone asked if I wanted to be healed, offering to pray over the injury. The question made me afraid, and I said no. For days I reflected on that reply. Why didn’t I say yes, I want to be healed? The truth is, I did want the healing. But I didn’t want it to come “that way.” The problem was that faith healing didn’t figure into my rational universe. Such as event would change the way I imagined the world and religion are support to work. I didn’t want to disturb my pre-determined beliefs. I preferred to live with the pain and the world as it was. Happily for me, I got a second change to answer that question: “Do you want to be healed?” This time I said yes, and I was. God is bigger than our imagination. Do you believe in biblical miracles? Do you believe miraculous events are possible today?
Por lo cual no podía obrar allí milagro alguno grande. Curo solamente algunos pocos enfermos imponiéndoles la mano. "Hace tres décadas tuve un dolor crónico en la muñeca debido a un rompimiento prematuro del hueso. Alguien me preguntó si quería ser sanado, ofreciéndome orar por la herida. La pregunta me dio miedo y dije que no. Durante días reflexioné sobre esa respuesta. ¿Por qué no dije que sí, si quiero ser sanado? La verdad es que sí quería ser sanado, pero no quería que se hiciera "de esa manera". El problema era que la curación por la fe no figuraba en mi universo racional. Tal evento cambiaría la forma en que imaginaba que el mundo y la religión deberían funcionar. No quería perturbar mis creencias predeterminadas. Preferí vivir con el dolor y el mundo tal como era. Afortunadamente para mí, tuve un segundo oportunidad para responder a esa pregunta: "¿Quieres que te curen?" Esta vez dije que sí, y lo estaba. Dios es más grande que nuestra imaginación

Rejected, misunderstood, disbelieved In this Sunday's Gospel reading, we see the painful truth of what happens when we share our faith with those who knew us before we became alive in our faith. Like Jesus, we are rejected, misunderstood, and disbelieved by people who don't understand why we changed. They feel threatened by our example; they don't want to consider their own need to change. We sound like fanatics to them, and they use this as an excuse to remain uninfluenced by our testimony. Jesus changed after he quit living an ordinary life in an ordinary town with an ordinary job to begin a ministry that would instigate persecution, and he invited every-one to follow his example. How crazy does that sound? Making matters worse, he was now spending all of his time trying to change the status quo of everyone's normal life and their normal ways of relating to others and their normal attitudes about religion -- even affecting the status quo of those who did not want to follow him and become like him. People don't like to be challenged, especially when it means giving up what's familiar and comfortable. How-ever, this is not a reason for us to keep silent. We have been called by Christ to share the good news about him. We must make it known that conversion is important, or else we are sinning against him and against those who need to learn more about him. We fulfill this mission by sharing our personal conversion stories and our spiritual insights, and especially by making this an invitation rather than by demanding that others change. If you're being rejected because of this, remember that Jesus understands how you feel. Let the sting of their rejection be replaced by an awareness that God is very pleased with you. Questions for Personal Reflection: In what ways has Jesus changed your life? Who are the people that misunderstand these changes? Now list those who do understand you: What can you do to enjoy their company more often?
Rechazado, malinterpretado, no creído En la lectura del Evangelio de este domingo, vemos la dolorosa verdad de lo que sucede cuando compartimos nuestra fe con aquellos que nos conocían antes que esa fe fuera reavivada. Como Jesús, somos rechazados, malinterpretados y no creídos por las personas que no entienden por qué cambiamos. Se sienten amenazados por nuestro ejemplo; no quieren considerar su propia necesidad de cambio. Parecemos fanáticos para ellos y usan esto como una excusa para permanecer inconmovibles ante nuestro testimonio. Jesús cambió después de abandonar una vida ordinaria, en un pueblo ordinario, con un trabajo ordinario, para comenzar un ministerio que instigaría la persecución, e invitaría a todos a seguir su ejemplo. ¿Qué tan loco suena eso? Para empeorar las cosas, ahora pasaba todo su tiempo tratando de cambiar el status quo de la vida normal de todos y sus formas normales de relacionarse con otros y sus actitudes normales hacia la religión -- incluso afectando el status quo de aquellos que no querían seguirlo y ser como él.
A las personas no les gusta que se las desafíe, especialmente cuando significa abandonar lo que es familiar y confortable. No obstante, esta no es una razón para que permanezcamos en silencio. Hemos sido llamados por Cristo para compartir las buenas nuevas sobre él. Debemos hacer que se sepa que la conversión es importante o, de lo contrario, estaremos pecando contra él y contra aquellos que necesitan conocer más de él.
Cumplimos con esta misión compartiendo nuestras historias de conversión personal y discernimiento espiritual y haciendo de esto una invitación en lugar de demandar que los demás cambien.
Si estás siendo rechazado por esta causa, recuerda que Jesús comprende cómo te sientes. Deja que el aguijón de su rechazo sea reemplazado por la seguridad de que Dios está muy complacido contigo.
