Prayer for Our Service

Men and Women

Lord, hold these loved ones in You

loving hands. Protect them as they protect

us. Bless them and their families for the

selfless acts they perform for us in our time

of need. Give them courage, hope and

strength. May they ever experience Your

firm support, gentle love and compassion-

ate healing. We ask this in the name of

Jesus, our Lord and Savior.

Amen

Hold fast to God’s hand and He will lead you safely through all trials. Whenever

you cannot stand, He will carry you lovingly in His arms.

Dear Family,

I am excited to offer our parishes what I am calling an “Advent

Evening of Reflection on the Sacrament of Confession.” I have felt

strongly called by Our Lord to offer this opportunity to all of you and I sense

that there is a hunger and desire in many of you to better understand the

Sacrament of Confession and to more fruitfully receive the grace God pours

out in this Sacrament.

Here is the plan for the evening:

What: 45 minute reflection (approximately) on the Sacrament of Confession discussing: Bibli-cal foundations, practical elements (especially for those who have not been to Confes-sion in a long time), powerful insights for any Catholic who wants to better understand the Sacrament and how to avail themselves of it, and my own observations and experi-ences of Confession from the perspective of a priest hearing confessions and as a peni-tent! The reflection will include how to make a good examination of conscience, inspiration to make this Sacrament a more regular part of your life, and some time in which I will an-swer anonymous questions that you will have the chance to ask in advance. PLEASE NOTE: I will be hearing confessions after the reflection till 9pm. We will still have our regular penance services at 3pm and 7pm that Sunday (December 20th), so you can go at one of those times if you prefer. We will most likely have Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament for Adoration after the reflection. You are welcome to stay and spend some quiet time with Our Lord and to examine your life. When: December 18th (Friday) 7:00pm Where: St. Stanislaus Church Who: Parishioners of IC and SS (although anyone is welcome)

I hope you will be able to join us for this evening of reflection!

It was during this mid-winter dark-ness in the Spanish Conquest of Amer-ica that Our Blessed Mother stopped the young, indigenous Juan Diego who was on his way to morning Mass at the outskirts of Mexico City.

As startled as he might have been, there is no fear in his conversation with the “Lady” who appeared to him. Mary spoke with a mother’s love and tenderness to this guileless convert to Christ. Mary’s soul and spirit are well-springs of joy and comfort which flow from her intimate union with Jesus, the Risen Christ.

The “Value Them Both” Petition

We will begin to pray weekly for the passage of the Value Them Both amendment. What is VALUE THEM BOTH?VTB is the proposed state constitutional amendment for life supported by the Catholic Bishops of Kansas. The amendment is crucial because the Kansas Supreme Court recently created a nearly unlimited “right” to abortion in our state. This means that all of our existing prolife laws including bans on taxpayer-funded late-term abortions and parental concent requirements will be considered unconstitutional once challenged. The VALUE THEM BOTH amendment will reverse the Supreme Court ruling once again allow Kansans, through their elected representatives, to pass laws that will help protect mothers and their unborn babies from the abortion industry. Please pray for passage of VALUE THEM BOTH. ********************************

Saint Juan Diego

Saint Juan Diego’s feast day is December 9. He was born in 1474 and died May 30, 1548. Saint Juan Diego is the first indigenous saint from the Ameri-cas. While on his way to church, he was visited by Our Lady, who instructed him to have a church built in her honor on the hill at Tepeyac (Mexico City). When the local bishop asked for a sign, Juan Diego filled his tilma (cloak) with out-of-season roses that Mary showed him. When he unrolled his cloak before the bishop, the famous image of Our Lady of Guadalupe was imprinted on it. He was widely regarded as a saint for centuries, and was canonized on July 31, 2002, by Pope St. John Paul II. Remember Our Lady’s words to Saint Juan Diego: “I am the compassionate mother of you and of all you people here in this land, and of the other various peoples who love me, who cry out to me!”
