The examination isconductedbyoneexaminer, in theorderofa class, commencingwith theBarreworkand thenprogressingthroughtheCentrePractice,PortdeBras,Adage,Pirouettes,Allegro,PetiteBatterieandPointework.Thesetvariationsareusuallyshownattheendoftheexamination.Thevariationswhichthecandidatehaspreparedwillbeshownintherelevantsection.Ineachsectionthecandidatewillbeaskedabouttheirknowledgeandunderstanding of the development ofmovements. Set exercises andmovementswill be demonstrated andanalysed, methodsofteachingdiscussedandenchaînementsarranged. Ifnotspecifiedtheseenchaînementsare ‘typical’ examination arrangements, however the examinermight request an arrangement for a certaincircumstance, for instance a training exercise to develop a particular aspect of the work. The candidate isexpected tobe able to communicatewith thepianist the tempo, dynamics andqualityof themusic that isrequired. Normally if the candidate counts clearly, using vocal highlights and the correct tempo, this willproduce the desired result. The examiner may question the candidate about the music chosen and otherrelevant questions, however the candidate’s instructions to the pianist should respect the musician’sexpertise.
