CARTA DEL PRESIDENTEEstimados amigos, colegas y socios de la cámara,

Una vez más me es muy grato poder extenderles mis saludos a través de nuestra publicación corporativa, Dialogue. Esta edición es muy especial para nosotros ya que conmemoraremos el aniversario patrio de Canadá que celebrará 151 años de fundación como país este primero de julio.

Quiero tomar esta oportunidad para reflexionar sobre el papel que juega Canadá en el escenario internacional. Pese a recién haber cumplido un poco más de siglo y medio, Canadá es hoy en día una de las economías más importantes del mundo. Forma parte del Grupo de los Siete (G7), un bloque informal y exclusivo que agrupa a los siete países más influyentes del planeta. Este año, Canadá tuvo el honor de organizar la cumbre del G7 en Charlevoix, Quebec a inicios de junio. También tiene a su cargo, y a lo largo del 2018, la presidencia de dicho grupo. Esto significa que Canadá, como país encargado de la presidencia, ha tenido la potestad para establecer la agenda del G7 a lo largo de este año. Por lo tanto, Canadá aprovechó su destacada posición en este importante foro internacional para poder presentar los temas que están alineados con los valores que atesora y defiende: un crecimiento económico que favorezca a todos; la preparación para los trabajos del futuro; la igualdad de género y el empoderamiento de la mujer; el cuidado del medio ambiente, y la creación de un mundo más pacífico y seguro.

Nosotros, en la Cámara de Comercio Canadá-Perú (CCCP), compartimos los valores que han sido expuestos por Canadá y - como principal entidad promotora de las relaciones comerciales, culturales y educativas entre ambos países - deseamos impulsarlos.

La CCCP aplaude a las medianas y grandes empresas y organizaciones (peruanas o internacionales) que estén desarrollando iniciativas o sigan buenas prácticas alineadas con los valores canadienses ya mencionados. Nuestra institución desea reconocer a las organizaciones que comparten la misma visión progresista, social y ambientalmente consciente, igualitaria y justa que promueve Canadá.

Para el 2019 deseamos premiar a las empresas más destacadas en las áreas ya mencionadas mediante la entrega de nuestros Maple Awards, una iniciativa de la CCCP para seguir alentando al emprendimiento creativo y socialmente responsable.

Dear friends, colleagues and members,

I am once again very pleased to be able to address you through the latest edition of Dialogue magazine, our corporate publication. In this occasion, we are commemorating Canada’s 151st anniversary which will take place on July 1st, Canada Day.

I want to take this opportunity to reflect on the role that Canada plays on the international stage. Despite its brief history as an independent country, Canada is today one of the most important economies in the globe. It belongs to the Group of Seven (G7), an informal and exclusive block that brings together the seven most influential countries on the planet. Canada holds the G7 presidency for 2018 and, as chair; organized the G7 Summit in Charlevoix, Quebec at the beginning of June. Canada is also responsible for setting the G7 agenda throughout this year. Therefore, Canada has put forward five themes based on the values that it cherishes and defends: investing in economic growth that favours everyone; preparing for the jobs of the future; advancing gender equality and empowering women; caring for the environment, and building a more peaceful and secure world.

We, at the Canada-Peru Chamber of Commerce (CPCC), share the values proposed by Canada and - as the main promoter of commercial, cultural and educational relations between both countries – look forward to encouraging them.

The CPCC applauds medium and large companies and organizations (Peruvian or foreign), that are developing projects or are following good practices that are in line with Canadian values. Our institution wishes to recognize organizations that share the same progressive, socially and environmentally conscious, egalitarian and fair vision that Canada proposes.

Therefore, in 2019 we wish to acknowledge the most outstanding companies in the above-mentioned areas with the Maple Awards, an original CPCC initiative that will encourage creative and socially responsible entrepreneurship.

Happy anniversary Canada! May our excellent bilateral relations continue to flourish.

Canadá se sigue consagrando como una de los países más importantes en el escenario global al presidir la cumbre del G7 este año en Charlevoix, Quebec y al establecer una visión, basada en temas, que anhela el bienestar universal.

Canada continues to be recognized as one of the most important countries on the global stage. It assumed the G7 presidency for 2018 and hosted the summit in Charlevoix, Quebec earlier this month. As chair, Canada was able to set an agenda based on themes that strive for universal prosperity.

CANADÁ: UN LÍDER GLOBALEl pasado 8 y 9 de junio, los ojos del mundo estuvieron puestos en la apacible región de Charlevoix en Canadá. No fue la belleza natural de esta forestal región ubicada en la costa norte del río San Lorenzo entre la Petite-Rivière-Saint-François y la desembocadura del Río Saguenay que atrajo la mirada mundial si no, la cumbre anual del Grupo de los Siete (G7). Esta agrupación informal está constituida por las siete economías más importantes y poderosas del mundo: Alemania, Canadá, Estados Unidos, Francia, Italia, Japón y el Reino Unido. La Unión Europea también participa en las reuniones del G7, pero no preside ni organiza cumbres. Los países del G7 representan más del 64% de la riqueza del planeta. Este foro proporciona a los líderes, ministros y legisladores de los países miembros la oportunidad de reunirse cada año para crear consenso y llegar a acuerdos sobre algunos de los problemas más importantes del mundo.

CANADA: A GLOBAL LEADEROn June 8th and 9th, the eyes of the world were set on the serene region of Charlevoix in Canada. It was not the natural beauty of its forest located on the north coast of the St. Lawrence River between the Petite-Rivière-Saint-François and the mouth of the Saguenay River that captured the world’s attention. It was the annual G7 Summit. The Group of Seven (G7) is an informal grouping of seven of the world’s advanced economies consisting of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States. The European Union also participates in the G7 meetings, but it does not preside or organize summits. The G7 countries represent more than 64% of the planet’s wealth. This forum provides leaders, ministers and legislators from member countries with the opportunity to meet each year to build consensus and reach agreements on some of the world’s most important problems.

El primero de julio de 2018, Canadá celebrará 151 años de fundación. Considerando su breve historia como país, es más que destacable que, en tan poco tiempo, se encuentre entre las economías más poderosas del planeta. El espíritu trabajador, ordenado, perseverante, resiliente, creativo y equitativo de sus ciudadanos ha convertido a Canadá en un gran país que actualmente forma parte de los foros internacionales más importantes.

On July 1st, 2018, Canada will celebrate its 151st anniversary. Considering its brief history as a country, it is noteworthy that, in such a short period of time, Canada is now among the most powerful economies on the planet. The industrious, orderly, persevering, resilient, creative and unprejudiced spirit of its citizens has turned Canada into a great state and a key member in important international forums.

Canadá asumió este año la presidencia para la cumbre del G7 y fue responsable de su organización. Como presidente, Canadá también organizó una serie de reuniones preparatorias ministeriales. El país que asume la presidencia establece la agenda para el año y habla en nombre del G7. Como tal, el primer ministro de Canadá, Justin Trudeau, anunció el 14 de diciembre de 2017 los temas para la presidencia de Canadá en el G7 2018. Dichos temas reflejan los valores liberales, igualitarios y tolerantes que promueve y atesora Canadá como país.“Canadá se enorgullece de presentar una agenda progresista para la cumbre del G7 2018. Los temas que hemos elegido para el año ayudarán a enfocar nuestras discusiones en la búsqueda de soluciones reales y concretas para promover la igualdad de género, el empoderamiento de las mujeres, la energía limpia y el crecimiento económico igualitario. Como miembros del G7, compartimos la responsabilidad de garantizar que todos los ciudadanos se beneficien de nuestra economía global y de que le dejemos un mundo más sano, pacífico y seguro a nuestros hijos y nietos”, destacó el Primer Ministro Trudeau.

Los valores de Canadá y del G7Para Canadá y el G7 el empoderamiento de las mujeres y de las niñas, y la igualdad de género son ítems transversales. El pasado 23 de enero, el Primer Ministro Trudeau anunció la creación del Consejo Asesor de Igualdad de Género, que garantizará que la igualdad de género y el empoderamiento de las mujeres sean incorporados en todos los temas, actividades e iniciativas de la presidencia canadiense del G7.

INVERTIR EN UN CRECIMIENTO ECONÓMICOQUE BENEFICIE A TODOS

La cooperación económica a través del G7 juega un papel crucial en el apoyo a la clase media del mundo y a aquellos que aspiran a ser parte de ella, especialmente al asegurar que los beneficios del crecimiento económico sean compartidos por todos en todos los países del mundo.

Canada holds the G7 presidency for 2018. As chair, it organized the summit and a series of ministerial-level preparatory meetings. It also set this year’s agenda and is responsible for speaking on behalf of the G7. On December 14th, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced the themes for Canada’s 2018 G7 Presidency.These themes reflect the liberal, egalitarian and tolerant values that Canada promotes and treasures as a country.“Canada is proud to put forward a progressive agenda for the 2018 G7. The themes we have chosen for the year will help focus our discussions on finding real, concrete solutions to promote gender equality, women’s empowerment, clean energy, and economic growth that works for everyone. As G7 partners, we share a responsibility to ensure that all citizens benefit from our global economy, and that we leave a healthier, more peaceful, and more secure world for our children and grandchildren,” said Prime Minister Trudeau.

Canadian Values and the G7For Canada and the G7 the empowerment of women and girls, and gender equality are cross-cutting issues. On January 23rd, 2018, Prime Minister Trudeau announced the creation of the Gender Equality Advisory Council, which will ensure that gender equality and women’s empowerment are integrated across all themes, activities and initiatives of Canada’s G7 Presidency.

INVESTING IN GROWTH THAT WORKS FOR EVERYONE

Economic cooperation through the G7 plays a crucial role in supporting the world’s middle class and those working hard to join it, particularly by ensuring that the benefits of economic growth are shared by everyone.

The G7 is in a unique position to tackle the most pressing global challenges and to implement viable and sustainable solutions, including by ensuring equality of opportunity and fairness across gender and generations. The G7 can also work to promote innovation and research in areas of economic, environmental, and social benefit.

PREPARARSE PARA LOS TRABAJOS DEL FUTURO

A medida que las tecnologías y los mercados evolucionen, los gobiernos del G7 jugarán un papel cada vez más importante en la preparación de sus ciudadanos e industrias para los trabajos del futuro. La igualdad de género y el empoderamiento de las mujeres y las niñas son imprescindibles para construir la paz, reducir la pobreza, hacer crecer las economías y lograr la sostenibilidad. Las mujeres ya generan casi el 40% del producto bruto interno (PBI) mundial, y el potencial para un mayor crecimiento liderado por mujeres aún no es aprovechado en su totalidad. Lograr la igualdad de género a nivel mundial podría hacer que el PBI global incremente en $12 billones en el lapso de una sola década. Canadá considera que los beneficios socioeconómicos de la igualdad de género no pueden ser ignorados.

PREPARING FOR JOBS OF THE FUTURE

As technologies and markets evolve, G7 governments will play an important role in preparing our citizens and industries for the jobs of the future. New technologies will change the nature of work – as they have done since the Industrial Revolution – and they hold the potential to deliver transformational advances in productivity. The resulting change presents both opportunities and challenges, with major implications for emerging and traditional sectors alike. These trends present an opportunity for Canada and its G7 partners to drive global innovation, attract increased investment, and grow successful companies. This will in turn help create good middle class jobs and ensure that the benefits of a strong economy are felt by all.

ADVANCING GENDER EQUALITY AND WOMEN’S EMPOWERMENT

Gender equality is a fundamental human right and a top priority for the G7 during Canada’s Presidency. Gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls are critical to building peace, reducing poverty, growing our economies, and achieving sustainability. Women already generate nearly 40% of the world’s gross domestic product (GDP), and the potential for further growth led by women is left untapped. Achieving gender equality around the world could increase global GDP by $12 trillion in a single decade. Canada considers that the socioeconomic benefits of gender equality cannot be ignored.

TRABAJAR JUNTOS CON RESPECTO AL CAMBIO CLIMÁTICO, LOS OCÉANOS Y LA ENERGÍA LIMPIA

A lo largo de la presidencia del G7, Canadá trabajará para trazar nuevos caminos hacia un futuro más seguro, sostenible y con bajas emisiones de carbono; un futuro que garantice la salud de los océanos, con un enfoque renovado en el desarrollo de nuevas tecnologías energéticas. Es por eso que Canadá se comprometerá con sus socios nacionales e internacionales, el sector privado y las comunidades indígenas y locales para lograr la concientización sobre el cambio climático, acelerar la innovación y comercialización de energía limpia y movilizar acciones sobre la salud y la resiliencia de los océanos.

CONSTRUIR UN MUNDO MÁS PACÍFICO Y SEGURO

Canadá y sus socios del G7 reconocen la importancia de trabajar juntos para construir un mundo más pacífico, próspero y sostenible. El G7 apoya firmemente un mandato internacional basado en normas, construido en torno a los principios básicos de la democracia, los derechos humanos, el estado de derecho, la integridad territorial y la aspiración a un comercio libre y abierto.

El G7 puede jugar un papel clave en mejorar la seguridad cibernética colectiva; buscar mejoras en la no proliferación y el desarme nuclear; y luchar contra el terrorismo, el extremismo violento y el crimen organizado transnacional. La presidencia canadiense del G7 en 2018 será una oportunidad para dar pasos importantes hacia la creación de un mundo más justo y seguro para todos.

WORKING TOGETHER ON CLIMATE CHANGE, OCEANS AND CLEAN ENERGY

Throughout its G7 Presidency, Canada we will work to chart new ways forward towards a more secure, sustainable, low carbon future – a future that ensures the health of our oceans, with a renewed focus on the development of new energy technologies. This is why Canada will promote strong engagement with our domestic and international partners, the private sector, and Indigenous and local communities in order to advance efforts on climate change, accelerate clean energy innovation and commercialization, and mobilize action on oceans health and resilience.

BUILDING A MORE PEACEFUL AND SECURE WORLD

Canada and its G7 partners recognize the importance of working together to build a more peaceful, prosperous, and sustainable world. The G7 strongly supports a rules-based international order, built around the core principles of democracy, human rights, the rule of law, territorial integrity, and an aspiration to free and open trade.

The G7 can play a key role in achieving real progress on a number of security issues, such as: improving our collective cyber security; pursuing improvements in non-proliferation, disarmament, and nuclear safety and security; fighting against terrorism, violent extremism, and transnational organized crime. Canada’s G7 presidency in 2018 will be an opportunity to take further important steps toward creating a more just and peaceful world for all.

Canadá, junto con Alemania, el Banco Mundial, Japón, el Reino Unido y la Unión Europea, anunciaron una inversión de casi 3,800 millones de dólares canadienses para la educación de mujeres y niñas en zonas de crisis y conflicto. Esta inversión podría cambiar las vidas de millones de las mujeres y niñas más vulnerables del mundo.

A lo largo de la Cumbre, los líderes respaldaron el Compromiso de Charlevoix sobre igualdad y crecimiento económico, que refuerza un compromiso común para luchar contra la pobreza, lograr la igualdad de género, reducir la desigualdad de ingresos y garantizar un mejor acceso a recursos financieros. También se comprometieron a construir una visión común para el futuro de la inteligencia artificial y a defender el financiamiento innovador que respalda el desarrollo internacional.

Reconociendo que los plásticos representan una amenaza importante para los océanos, cinco países del G7 (Canadá, Francia, Alemania, Italia y el Reino Unido) aceptaron la Carta de Plásticos de Océanos, para erradicar la contaminación por plástico. Canadá invertirá $ 100 millones para librar a los océanos de la contaminación global por desechos marinos y plásticos.

Los mandatarios también acordaron el Plan de Charlevoix para océanos saludables, mares y comunidades costeras resilientes, que promoverá océanos y pesquerías sostenibles. THE 2018 G7 SUMMIT HIGHLIGHTSCanada, along with the European Union, Germany, Japan, the

United Kingdom, and the World Bank, announced an investment of close to $3.8 billion CAD, for the education of women and girls in crisis and conflict situations. This investment could change the lives of millions of the world’s most vulnerable women and girls.

The leaders endorsed the Charlevoix Commitment on Equality and Economic Growth, which reinforces a common commitment to fight poverty, achieve gender equality, reduce income inequality, and ensure better access to financial resources. They also committed to build a common vision for the future of artificial intelligence and to champion innovative financing that supports international development.

G7 leaders discussed environmental issues. Recognizing that plastics pose a significant threat to the oceans, five countries (Canada, France, Germany, Italy and the United Kingdom) have agreed to the Oceans Plastics Charter, which speaks to the G7’s common resolve to eradicate plastic pollution. Canada will invest $100 million to rid its oceans of global marine litter and plastic pollution.

G7 leaders agreed to the Charlevoix Blueprint for Healthy Oceans, Seas and Resilient Coastal Communities, which will promote sustainable oceans and fisheries, and support resilient coasts and coastal communities. Canada will invest $162 million to support these goals, and preserve the health and resilience of its oceans and coasts.

En cuanto a seguridad mundial, los líderes acordaron establecer un mecanismo de respuesta rápida del G7, que fortalecerá la coordinación entre los países miembros para identificar y responder a amenazas. A través de esta iniciativa, los países del G7 compartirán información y análisis e identificarán nuevas oportunidades en las que trabajarán juntos para defender a sus democracias.

Regarding global security, G7 leaders agreed to establish a G7 rapid response mechanism, which will strengthen coordination among the member countries to identify and respond to threats. Through this initiative, G7 countries will share information and analysis, and identify new opportunities where member countries can work together to defend democracy.

The Summit in Charlevoix was the 44th meeting of the Group of Seven (G7).

The political leaders who participated in the Summit were: The Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau; the president of France, Emmanuel Macron; the president of the United States, Donald Trump; the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Theresa May; the Chancellor of Germany, Angela Merkel; the Prime Minister of Japan, Shinzo Abe; and the Prime Minister of Italy, Giuseppe Conte. The European Union President, Jean-Claude Juncker, and the President of the European Council, Donald Tusk, also participated on behalf of the European Union.

Traditionally, the G7 engages with leaders from the international community through an Outreach Session at the Summit. The G7 host invites country leaders and representatives from international organizations to discuss the pressing challenge facing the global community. El pasado 2 de abril, Francisco Ísmodes Mezzano tomó la posta del Ministerio de Energía y Minas (MINEM) convirtiéndose así en el primero en dirigir esta cartera para la recién inaugurada administración del Presidente Martín Vizcarra.

Ísmodes es abogado por la Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP) con maestría en Gerencia Social con Mención en Participación Ciudadana, también de la PUCP. Cuenta, además, con un diplomado en Gestión Estratégica para la Nueva Minería de GERENS y completó el Programa de Desarrollo Gerencial de Harvard Business School.

Posee una sólida experiencia en el sector minero, ocupando diversos cargos directivos en empresas y gremios relacionados a dicha actividad. Destacan, entre otras, haber sido gerente general adjunto de la Compañía Minera Milpo, gerente de Minería de la Sociedad Nacional de Minería, Petróleo y Energía, gerente general de Gestión Sostenible Perú – empresa que asesora y promueve el desarrollo de buenas prácticas y altos estándares en los ámbitos social, ambiental y corporativo –, además de haber sido director de las empresas Sierra Antapite, Electrosur y Consorcio Internacional de Operaciones.

Dialogue tuvo el honor de poder ser uno de los primeros medios en entrevistar al Ministro Ísmodes. A lo largo de la entrevista, el nuevo encargado del MINEM demostró que su amplia y rica experiencia en minería se refleja en su visión panorámica para el desarrollo de ésta como motor de la economía nacional. Sin embargo, no se limitó a tratar temas sólo de este sector, sino que también comentó sobre las medidas que se están tomando para colocar al Perú nuevamente en el mapa mundial de la industria de los hidrocarburos.

On April 2, 2018, Francisco Ísmodes Mezzano was appointed new Minister of Energy and Mines and became the first person to occupy the position under the newly inaugurated administration of President Martín Vizcarra.

Ísmodes is a lawyer from the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru (PUCP) with a Master’s degree in Social Management with a Mention in Citizen Participation, also from the PUCP. He also has a Diploma in Strategic Management for Mining from GERENS and completed Harvard Business School’s Management Development Program.

He has solid experience in the mining sector and has occupied various management positions in companies and associations related to the activity. He has been Deputy General Manager for Compañía Minera Milpo, Mining Manager for the National Society of Mining, Oil and Energy of Peru, General Manager for Gestión Sostenible Perú - a company that advises and promotes the development of good practices and high standards in the social, environmental and corporate areas - in addition to having worked as director for the following companies: Sierra Antapite, Electrosur and Consorcio Internacional de Operaciones.

Dialogue had the honour of being one of the first media to interview Minister Ísmodes. Throughout the interview, the new head of the MINEM proved that his panoramic overview regarding the development of mining as an engine for Peru’s economy is based on his broad experience in the sector. However, he did not only talk about issues related to mining. He also commented on the measures that are being taken to put Peru back on the world map of the hydrocarbon industry.

Según importantes representantes del sector minero nacional, su nombramiento ha sido muy bien recibido debido a que usted cuenta con más de 25 años de experiencia en gestión minera. ¿Cómo considera que su amplia experiencia podría beneficiar al manejo y crecimiento del sector minero?

Los recursos mineros fortalecen nuestra economía y son la fuente de la lucha contra la pobreza. Sin embargo no se percibe esa fortaleza en todas las zonas mineras y esa es una realidad con la que vivimos hoy, además de que existen expectativas no satisfechas, preocupaciones sobre impactos ambientales y pasivos ambientales sin remediar.

Es importante hacer una reflexión de lo que ha sido el antes y de lo que es ahora la actividad minera, la que ha evolucionado muy positivamente en prácticas de cuidado ambiental y relaciones con las poblaciones vecinas, acompañada de una legislación ambiental que exige cumplimiento de estándares internacionales.

Con este marco impulsaremos el crecimiento bajo una política sectorial que proponga algo diferente para lograr resultados diferentes en cuanto a mejorar la aceptación social de las actividades mineras.

According to key players in Peru’s mining industry, your designation has been very well received due to your extensive experience, over 25 years, in mining management. How do you consider your broad expertise could benefit the growth and management of the mining sector?

Mining resources strengthen our economy and help us fight poverty. However, this strength is not perceived by people living in mining areas and this is the reality we face today. There are unmet expectations, concerns about liabilities and environmental impacts without remedy.

It is important to reflect on the past and the present situation of mining. It has evolved positively regarding environmental care and relations with neighbouring communities. We should also mention that there is an existing environmental legislation that requires compliance with international standards.

With this framework, we will promote growth under a sectoral policy that proposes something different to obtain different results in regards to improving the social acceptance of mining activities.


Para ello hemos iniciado el acercamiento del Gobierno a las comunidades, autoridades locales, sociedad civil y empresas, mediante espacios permanentes de coordinación local para llevar adelante iniciativas de desarrollo, promover el buen aprovechamiento de los recursos que genera el sector, atender preocupaciones, velar por buenas prácticas ambientales y sociales, cumplimiento de compromisos y de la legislación vigente.

Con ello buscamos fortalecer la presencia del Gobierno para actuar con proactividad y estar más activos en el espacio social, el que usualmente ha sido compartido sólo entre comunidad y empresa.

De esta forma, nos proponemos variar el enfoque de las mesas de diálogo o de trabajo que han tenido algunas mejores resultados que otras, buscando un espacio permanente de coordinación preventiva, y no tan enfocado en la solución de conflictos ya generados.

Finalmente, el MINEM buscará generar consensos entre los distintos actores relacionados con la actividad minera, a fin de construir una visión de la minería que todos queremos y que es tan importante y necesaria para nuestro país.

¿Qué medidas tomará para reactivar los millonarios proyectos mineros que actualmente se encuentran paralizados?

Adicionalmente a lo antes indicado, estamos reformulando la Dirección General de Promoción Minera, la cual tendrá reporte directo al viceministro de Minas, y asumirá una labor más proactiva no sólo en atraer nuevas inversiones, sino en tener un acompañamiento muy cercano a los proyectos, en especial aquellos cuya implementación ya está decidida por la empresa y se encuentran en etapas avanzadas de implementación.

A su vez promoverá la mejora de la legislación que permita contar con procesos ágiles de tramitación de permisos, impulsar la elaboración de estudios e investigaciones que permitan fortalecer el desarrollo de la actividad y generación de conocimiento.

En esta Dirección también se verá de hacer propuestas para que los recursos que forja la minería generen impactos más positivos y sostenibles, siendo conscientes que no podremos lograr una percepción positiva y de mayor aceptación de la actividad minera si no se logra mejores resultados en el bienestar de las poblaciones en donde se desarrolla.

Esta iniciativa en conjunto con la de acercar el Gobierno a las zonas mineras, nos permitirá fortalecer al sector y reactivar los proyectos mineros.

For that purpose, the Government has started to approach communities, local authorities, civil society and companies, through the use of permanent spaces for local coordination. These spaces are used to carry out development initiatives, promote the good use of resources generated by mining, assist concerns, ensure good environmental and social practices, and guarantee compliance with commitments and legislation.

Through this, we seek to strengthen the presence of the Government so that it acts proactively and is more active in the social space that has usually been shared by communities and companies.

Taking this into account, we intend to vary the approach used in dialogue and work tables. Some have had better results than others. We want to create a space focused on permanent

preventive coordination, and not a space dedicated to dispute resolution.

In conclusion, the MINEM wants to promote consensus among the different actors involved in mining, so that we can envision a mining sector that favours all. This is important and necessary for Peru.

What measures will you take to reactivate the mining projects that are worth millions of dollars, but are currently stalled?

Besides what I’ve already mentioned, we are currently redefining the General Directorate of Mining Promotion, which will report directly to the Deputy Minister of Mines. It will carry out more proactive work, not only in attracting new investment, but also in closely accompanying projects, especially those whose implementation has already been determined by the company and are in advanced stages of implementation.

The Directorate will also promote a legislation that will favour agile procedures for the acquisition of licences and permits. Likewise, it will promote research and studies that will strengthen the development of mining and increase knowledge.

This Directorate will also develop proposals so that mining resources can generate a more positive and sustainable impact. We are aware that changes in perception and acceptance towards mining will change favourably only if the communities prosper.

This initiative, along with bringing the Government closer to mining areas, will allow us to strengthen the sector and reactivate the projects.

El Gobierno, durante el mandato del ex presidente Pedro Pablo Kuczynski, realizó una reforma normativa para atraer mayor inversión extranjera hacia la minería peruana. ¿El cambio de mandato ha interrumpido esta reforma? De no ser así, ¿nos podría comentar sobre cómo sigue este proceso?

Nada que sea positivo para el sector está siendo detenido. Todo va hacia la misma dirección, sólo con mayor atención en reforzar la sostenibilidad de las actividades.

Si sólo nos enfocamos en promoción o en competitividad y no nos ocupamos de dotar de mayor sostenibilidad al sector, entonces siempre el avance será incierto y cuesta arriba.

En ese sentido, queremos seguir fomentando nuevas exploraciones, incrementando el actual 7% del presupuesto mundial de exploraciones que captamos.

A su vez nos enfocamos en mejorar la normativa para hacer procesos más ágiles, sin reducir estándares ambientales ya establecidos, simplemente optimizar plazos y la previsibilidad que esperan los inversionistas.A

Para ello también estamos trabajando en mejorar la coordinación entre las distintas autoridades que otorgan las autorizaciones que permiten poner en marcha los nuevos proyectos.

Cambiando de sector, en diciembre del año pasado, mediante la ley N° 30705, el Gobierno estableció las funciones de lo que será el Viceministerio de Hidrocarburos. ¿Cuándo comenzará a operar y cuáles serán sus principales metas?

El Viceministerio de Hidrocarburos ya está funcionado y el responsable de este sector es el viceministro Eduardo Guevara Dodds. A su vez, se viene trabajando en el fortalecimiento de Perupetro, como Agencia de Promoción de Inversiones en Hidrocarburos.

De esta forma el Gobierno ya está encaminado a poner al Perú nuevamente en el mapa de la industria mundial de los hidrocarburos, tal como ocurría en décadas anteriores, con el fin de atraer inversiones que generen divisas y permitan, a su vez, luchar contra la pobreza y generar desarrollo, en el marco de un enfoque de cuidado ambiental y respeto a las comunidades y poblaciones vecinas.

A su vez, recientemente se ha aprobado en la Comisión de Energía y Minas del Congreso de la República, el proyecto de una nueva Ley de Hidrocarburos (la actual está vigente desde 1993), con la finalidad de incentivar, en condiciones más competitivas, la inversión en exploración y explotación de hidrocarburos.

Esto incluye esquemas de regalías que se adecuen a la realidad del mercado, y también la prórroga de plazos condicionados a realizar inversiones, evitando de esta forma la caída de la producción.

The Government, during the administration of former President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski, carried out a regulatory reform in order to attract more foreign mining investment to Peru. Has this reform been interrupted due to the change in mandate? If not, could you explain the continuance of this process?

All that is positive for the sector is not being stopped. Everything is going in the same direction, only with greater attention in reinforcing the sustainability of the activities.

If we only focus on promotion or competitiveness and we do not take care of providing the sector with more sustainability, then progress will always be uncertain and an uphill struggle.

In this sense, we want to continue fostering new explorations. We want to increase Peru’s share of the global exploration budget. We currently have 7%.

At the same time, we are focusing on improving regulations that will accelerate processes, without reducing already established environmental standards. This can be achieved by simply optimizing deadlines and establishing the predictability that investors expect.

To accomplish this, we are trying to improve the coordination between the different authorities that approve the beginning of projects.

Let’s change sectors. In December of 2017, through Law No. 30705, the Government established the functions of the Vice Ministry of Hydrocarbons. When will it begin to operate and what goals does it have?

The Vice Ministry of Hydrocarbons is already operating and Deputy Minister Eduardo Guevara Dodds is responsible for this sector. At the same time, Perupetro has been strengthened in order to operate as a promotional agency for hydrocarbon investment.

The Government is already trying to put Peru back on the map of the global oil and gas industry, just as it was in previous decades. This will help attract investment that will, in turn, allow us to fight against poverty and generate development, within a framework that emphasizes environmental care and respect for neighbouring communities and populations.

The Congressional Committee on Energy and Mines recently approved the draft for a new Hydrocarbons Law (the existing one is from 1993) which would encourage hydrocarbon exploration and exploitation in more competitive conditions.

This includes royalty plans that are adapted to the market’s reality and the extension of time limits for investments which would help avoid drops in production.

La misión de la CCCP es promover y desarrollar relaciones comerciales, educativas y culturales de largo plazo y beneficio mutuo entre Canadá y Perú, de manera socialmente responsable. Para lograr tal cometido, nuestra institución lleva a cabo diversas actividades, entre ellas, misiones comerciales. A inicios de marzo de este año, la CCCP organizó una misión en el marco de la convención minera de PDAC. Los participantes, destacados profesionales de importantes empresas que trabajan con el sector minero peruano, pudieron conocer de cerca la tecnología de última generación empleada por mineras canadienses.

Del siete al nueve de marzo, gerentes y ejecutivos de las empresas Techint, INCIMMET y Montali tuvieron la oportunidad de visitar dos operaciones ubicadas en lo que posiblemente sea una de las zonas más mineras del mundo. Ambas minas están situadas cerca de la ciudad de Val-d’Or en la región de Abitibi-Témiscamingue, la cual es conocida por ser una gran receptora de inversiones masivas, captando un tercio de toda la inversión minera en Quebec.

The CPCC´s mission is to promote and develop long-term commercial, educational and cultural relations between Canada and Peru, in a socially responsible manner. To achieve this, our institution carries out various activities, including commercial missions. At the beginning of March of this year, the CPCC organized a mission within the framework of the PDAC mining convention. The participants, outstanding professionals from important companies that work with the Peruvian mining sector, were able to learn about state-of-the-art technology used by Canadian mining companies.

From March 7th to 9th, managers and executives from Techint, INCIMMET and Montali had the opportunity to visit two operations located in what is possibly one of the most mining areas in the world. Both mines are located near the city of Val-d’Or in the Abitibi-Témiscamingue region, which is known to be a major recipient of massive investments, capturing a third of all mining investment in Quebec.

Una de las operaciones visitadas fue la mina subterránea de Beaufor de la empresa Monarques Gold que produjo 19,562 onzas de oro en 2016. En Beaufor los participantes pudieron conocer los últimos equipos y métodos de extracción en un “shallow angle vein mine” (mina de veta de ángulo bajo o superficial), los cuales incrementan de manera substancial la eficiencia de las operaciones mineras.

La otra mina visitada fue La Ronde, el proyecto emblemático de la empresa Agnico Eagle. Esta es una de las minas más profundas de las Américas (a tres kilómetros de fondo). En 2017 produjo 349,385 onzas de oro, 1,254,000 onzas de plata, 6,5104 toneladas de zinc y 4,501 toneladas de cobre. El nivel de eficiencia y capacidad demostrado en La Ronde es, sin lugar a dudas, ejemplar. La tecnología de última generación que es empleada para el desarrollo de las operaciones y comunicaciones es extraordinaria ya que permite que todo funcione con normalidad a considerables niveles de profundidad.

The participants were able to learn about the latest technology regarding equipment and methods of extraction in a shallow angle vein mine, which substantially increase the efficiency of mining operations.

The other visited site was La Ronde, the emblematic project of Agnico Eagle. This is one of the deepest mines in the Americas (three kilometers deep). In 2017, it produced 349,385 ounces of gold, 1,254,000 ounces of silver, 6,5104 tonnes of zinc and 4,501 tonnes of copper. The level of efficiency shown in La Ronde is, without a doubt, exemplary. The latest technology that is used for the development of operations and communications is extraordinary since it allows everything to work normally at levels of significant depth.

Los profesionales peruanos también visitaron L’ Institut national des mines du Québec (el Instituto Nacional de Minas de Quebec) en el que probaron los simuladores virtuales.

A lo largo de toda la misión, los participantes estuvieron en contacto con expertos altamente capacitados que compartieron con ellos el “know- how” canadiense en temas relacionados a innovación, tecnología y procesos. En una cena de networking organizada por la CCCP, los participantes pudieron continuar y profundizar el diálogo y el intercambio de información con sus colegas canadienses.

En términos generales, los participantes calificaron a la misión como “oportuna” “excelente” y “sumamente provechosa” ya que les permitió conocer de cerca lo último en tecnología en su área de interés. De igual manera, felicitaron a la CCCP por organizar esta beneficiosa misión comercial que no sólo les permitió aprender sobre avances tecnológicos, sino participar en una conversación enriquecedora con sus homólogos canadienses.

The Peruvian professionals also visited L ‘Institut national des mines du Québec (the National Institute of Mines of Quebec) in which they tested virtual simulators.

Throughout the mission, the participants were in contact with highly trained experts who shared with them Canadian ‘know-how’ on issues related to innovation, technology and processes. At a networking dinner organized by the CPCC, the participants were able to continue and deepen the dialogue and exchange information with their Canadian colleagues.

In general terms, the participants described the mission as “timely”, “excellent” and “extremely beneficial” since it allowed them to learn about the latest technology in their area of interest. They also congratulated the CPCC for organizing this valuable commercial mission that not also allowed them to take part in enriching conversations with their Canadian counterparts.

En enero de 2018, se inició el objetivo común de hacer del valle de Majes, el principal destino turístico de la región Arequipa. Para ello se suscribió un convenio interinstitucional entre la Municipalidad Provincial de Castilla, los municipios distritales de Huancarqui y Uraca Corire; y el Proyecto Zafranal; para elaborar un plan de desarrollo turístico, al que denominaron “Entre el Mar y el Fuego”. Denominarlo “Entre el Mar y el Fuego”, surgió por la ubicación estratégica de este valle, cuyo destino turístico iniciaría en el mar de la provincia de Camaná; y termina en el Valle de los Volcanes, en el distrito de Andagua, en la parte alta de la provincia de Castilla. Durante el recorrido se encuentra más de veinte atractivos, donde destaca la gastronomía, historia, cultura, y paisajes naturales.

HOJA DE RUTADos meses después de suscrito el convenio entre Zafranal y los municipios, se presentó los resultados del trabajo realizado. Un plan de desarrollo turístico concebido como la hoja de ruta, para lograr -entre las metas de corto plazo- cuadriplicar la cantidad de visitantes que arriban al valle de Majes, anualmente; y poner en valor sus principales destinos como los petroglifos de Toro Muerto y las huellas de los dinosaurios.

In January 2018, work was started on achieving the common goal of making the Majes Valley the main tourist destination of the Arequipa region. To this end, an inter-institutional agreement was signed between the Provincial Municipality of Castilla, the district municipalities of Huancarqui and Uraca Corire, and the Zafranal Project. The objective of this agreement was to elaborate a tourist development plan, which has been called “Entre el Mar y el Fuego”- “Between the Sea and the Fire”.

The idea to name it “Between the Sea and the Fire” arose from the strategic location of this valley between the sea at Camaná and the Valley of the Volcanoes, in the district of Andagua, in the upper part of the province of Castilla. The tourist route will highlight more than twenty tourist attractions, where gastronomy, history, culture and natural landscapes shine.

ROADMAP Two months after signing the agreement between Zafranal and the municipalities, the results of the work were presented. A tourism development plan was presented as the roadmap forward to achieve a series short-term goals as a start, including to quadruple the number of visitors arriving annually at the Majes Valley and to enhance its main tourist destinations, such as the petroglyphs at Toro Muerto and the dinosaur footprints.

PERÚ SE CONSOLIDA COMO LÍDER MINERO EN PDAC 2018 / PERU CONSOLIDATES ITSELF AS A MINING LEADER IN PDAC 2018 SPECIAL

UNA DELEGACIÓN ENTUSIASTA

Nuestro país se presentó con una delegación de 330 personas, superando en un 15% a la del 2017, la cual había sido considerada como la más numerosa en toda la historia de la participación peruana en PDAC. Las actividades de la delegación fueron meticulosamente planificadas y ejecutadas por la Cámara de Comercio Canadá-Perú (CCCP), institución autorizada por el Gobierno para llevar a cabo el rol de organizador de la presencia peruana en PDAC. El programa fue coordinado de manera conjunta con el Gobierno y el empresariado del país. Por quinto año consecutivo, Perú fue uno de los países auspiciadores de la convención. Es necesario destacar que Perú compitió en PDAC 2018 con otros 134 países por el interés de los inversionistas mundiales.

PDAC es la principal convención minera del mundo y es organizada anualmente en el Metro Toronto Convention Centre (MTCC) en la ciudad del mismo nombre por el Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (Asociación de Técnicos en Prospección y Desarrollo de Canadá). Este año fue realizada del 4 a 7 de marzo y recibió a 25,606 participantes, un incremento de 6% en comparación a 2017.

La delegación peruana de este año no sólo llamó la atención por su tamaño, si no, por la calidad e importancia de sus participantes. Martín Vizcarra, actual presidente de la República y, en ese momento, embajador peruano ante Canadá y primer vicepresidente del Perú, lideró la delegación. Por parte del Gobierno estuvieron Ángela Grossheim, entonces ministra de Energía y Minas, y Claudia Cooper, anterior ministra de Economía y Finanzas. También formaron parte de la delegación altos funcionarios de los ministerios de Energía y Minas (MINEM), Comercio Exterior y Turismo y Relaciones Exteriores. De igual manera, participaron representantes de la Comisión de Promoción del Perú para la Exportación y el Turismo (PromPerú), de la Agencia de Promoción de la Inversión Privada – Perú (ProInversión), del Banco Central de Reserva del Perú (BCRP) y del Servicio Nacional de Certificación Ambiental para las Inversiones Sostenibles (SENACE).

Considerando que la meta hacia el desarrollo pleno del sector minero peruano sólo puede ser lograda en base a un trabajo conjunto y armonizado entre los sectores público y privado, la delegación incluyó a los empresarios más influyentes en el sector minero nacional. Estuvieron presentes CEOs, gerentes generales y comerciales de importantes mineras y empresas proveedoras para la minería. También participaron representantes de gremios como el Instituto de Ingenieros de Minas del Peru (IIMP) y la Sociedad de Minería, Petróleo y Energía.

La participación peruana en PDAC 2018 fue nada menos que brillante. Perú no sólo contó con una de las delegaciones más grandes en la convención minera, si no que desarrolló un sinfín de actividades promotoras para exhibir sus ventajas comparativas y atraer mayor inversión extranjera. Igualmente, impulsó y destacó de manera enfática su posición actual como uno de los mejores destinos mineros a nivel mundial.

AN ENTHUSIASTIC DELEGATION

Peru was represented by 330 delegates. This exceeded by 15% the number reached in 2017, which had been considered the largest in the history of Peru’s participation in PDAC. The delegation’s activities were meticulously planned and carried out by the Canada-Peru Chamber of Commerce (CPCC), the institution authorized by the Government to organize Peru’s presence in PDAC. The programme was coordinated jointly with the Peruvian Government and the business community. For the fifth year in a row, Peru was a country sponsor at the convention. It is important to highlight that Peru competed in PDAC 2018 with 134 other countries for the attention of global investors.

PDAC is the main mining convention in the world and is annually organized at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre (MTCC) by the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada. This year, the event was held on March 4-7 and received 25,606 participants, a 6% increase in regards to 2017.

This year’s Peruvian delegation not only drew attention because of its size, but also due to the quality and importance of its participants. Martín Vizcarra, current President of Peru and, at the time, the Peruvian Ambassador to Canada and the First Vice President of Peru, led the delegation. Angela Grossheim, then Minister of Energy and Mines, and Claudia Cooper, former Minister of Economy and Finance, took part in PDAC on behalf of the Peruvian Government. High-level officials from the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM), the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs were also part of the delegation. Representatives from the Exports and Tourism Promotion Board of Peru (PROMPERU), the Peruvian Private Investment Promotion Agency (ProInversión), the Central Reserve Bank of Peru (BCRP) and the National Service of Environmental Certification for Sustainable Investments (SENACE) also took part.

Considering that the full development of the Peruvian mining sector can only be achieved through a joint and consistent effort between the public and private sectors, the delegation likewise included the most influential businessmen in Peru’s mining sector. CEOs, General and Commercial Managers of important mining companies and mining supply companies, representatives of guilds such as the Institute of Mining Engineers of Peru (IIMP) and the National Society of Mining, Oil and Energy of Peru also participated in the promotional activities.

The Peruvian participation in PDAC 2018 was nothing less than brilliant. Peru not only had one of the largest delegations in the mining convention, but also carried out various promotional activities to showcase its comparative advantages and attract more foreign investment. The country also vigorously promoted and emphasized its current position as one of the best mining destinations in the world.


CONSOLIDANDO EL LIDERAZGO REGIONAL

El Fraser Institute, un reconocido think-tank canadiense, acentuó en su ranking para 2017 que el Perú es actualmente el segundo país minero más atractivo para la inversión extranjera en América Latina. Perú ocupó el puesto 19 a nivel mundial ratificando su supremacía frente a México (44), Colombia (64) y Brasil (65). Sólo fue superado por Chile (8). Es importante destacar que nuestro país subió nueve posiciones en comparación al ranking de 2016. Es decir, de la posición 28 a la 19. También es importante recordar que en 2016 fue considerado como el país más atractivo en la región.

Aprovechando esta meritoria posición (y dejando atrás el panorama minero incierto que vivió nuestro país y el mundo en 2016), la delegación peruana llevó a cabo una serie de actividades promocionales cuyo fin fue dejar en claro y exaltar todas las ventajas comparativas que posee Perú como destino minero para la inversión extranjera.

Los atractivos costos de producción, la estabilidad económica y política, la experiencia y capacidad de los proveedores peruanos y el gran potencial geológico y minero del territorio nacional están entre las ventajas comparativas que ofrece nuestro país.

En la inauguración de “Peru Day”, evento dedicado enteramente al Perú y que incluye una serie de conferencias y reuniones, la exministra Ángela Grossheim explicó que el país posee un importante potencial natural. Perú es uno de los principales productores de minerales en América Latina y, según el Servicio Geológico de los Estados Unidos (United States Geological Survey - USGS), está entre los países con mayores reservas minerales. Resaltó que sólo el 14% del territorio peruano está concesionado para dicha actividad y que el país ofrece una moderna Carta Geológica Nacional y un Sistema de Catastro Minero seguro lo cual representar una garantía para la inversión.

CONSOLIDATING REGIONAL LEADERSHIP

The Fraser Institute, a renowned Canadian think-tank, underlined in its 2017 ranking that Peru is currently the second most attractive mining country for foreign investment in Latin America. Peru ranked 19th worldwide confirming its superiority over Mexico (44), Colombia (64) and Brazil (65). It was only surpassed by Chile (8). It is important to note that our country climbed nine positions compared to the 2016 ranking. That is, from 28 to 19. It is also important to remember that in 2016 Peru was considered the most attractive country in the region.

Taking advantage of this meritorious position (and leaving behind the uncertain mining landscape that our country and the world experienced in 2016), the Peruvian delegation carried out a series of promotional activities to boost Peru’s comparative advantages as a mining destination for foreign investment.

Attractive production costs, economic and political stability, the experience and capacity of Peruvian suppliers and the great geological and mining potential of its territory are among the comparative advantages that Peru has to offer.

Peru Day is an event entirely devoted to promoting the country’s mining potential and it includes a series of conferences and meetings. At its inauguration, former Minister Ángela Grossheim explained that the country has an important natural potential. Peru is one of the main producers of minerals in Latin America and, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), is among the countries with the largest mineral reserves. She stressed that only 14% of Peruvian territory is concessioned for mining activity and that the country offers a modern National Geological Charter and a secure Mining Cadastre System that guarantee a safe environment for investment.

Otra ventaja comparativa es el clima favorable que está desarrollando e impulsando el Gobierno para atraer más inversión extranjera. Grossheim sostuvo que el Gobierno se ha planteado tres objetivos para consolidar la actividad minera en el Perú:

Explicó que el MINEM ha adoptado una estrategia integral que incluye una revisión y reforma normativa, la reducción de trámites y procesos para la obtención de permisos y licencias, las intervenciones diferenciadas según el proyecto con el acompañamiento del Estado para resolver las principales necesidades de los inversionistas, y la promoción de un adecuado entorno social para así proveer un ambiente más seguro para las inversiones.

Considerando que los conflictos sociales de años recientes protagonizados por las comunidades adyacentes a proyectos mineros han generado malestar a la economía del país, el Gobierno ha priorizado la inversión social. Grossheim habló sobre el Fondo de Adelanto Social cuyo presupuesto inicial de S/.50 millones será destinado a proyectos de impacto social para lograr recuperar la confianza de las comunidades en el Estado.

She explained that the Peruvian Ministry of Energy and Mines has adopted a comprehensive strategy that includes legal and regulatory reform, the reduction of procedures and processes for obtaining permits and licenses, interventions differentiated according to the project with the support of the State to solve the main needs of investors, and the promotion of an adequate social environment in order to provide a safer environment for investment.

Considering that social conflicts of recent years involving communities adjacent to mining projects have affected the country’s economy, the Government has prioritized social investment. Grossheim spoke about the Social Advancement Fund. Its initial budget of S/. 50 million will be allocated to social impact projects so that the State can recover the trust of the communities.

Del 4 al 6 de marzo, la delegación peruana participó en diversas actividades promocionales. El programa arrancó con el “Meet & Greet” en el pabellón peruano y la inauguración del mismo. Este espacio de 54m2 estuvo estratégicamente ubicado en una zona de alto tránsito del MTCC. El pabellón contó con un área interactiva donde fueron exhibidas las ventajas que ofrece el Perú.

La inauguración fue seguida por el Investors, Miners & Suppliers (the Social Nerwork Business Lunch), un almuerzo de negocios llevado a cabo en el elegante y exclusivo Jump Restaurant. Este espacio permitió que inversionistas, empresarios y proveedores mineros compartieran un valioso momento para hacer networking.

El lunes, 5 de marzo comenzó con el Government and Stakeholders (Breakfast Meeting), un exclusivo desayuno privado que tuvo lugar en el MTCC. Altos representantes gubernamentales del Perú e importantes empresarios e inversionistas mineros aprovecharon la oportunidad para intercambiar información del sector.

El evento central de la participación del Perú en PDAC fue el Mining Investment Opportunities in Peru - Peru Day (Executive Leaders and Investors). El tradicional y muy reconocido “Peru Day” es un evento de todo un día llevado a cabo en el MTCC. Incluyó conferencias, paneles y presentaciones sobre la competitividad e incentivos del Perú para la inversión minera. El tema central de 2018 fue “New Strategy in the Promotion of Investment” (Nuevas estrategas para la promoción de la inversión).

Contó con la participación de distinguidos expositores del Gobierno peruano y líderes del sector privado minero. Entre ellos estuvieron Martín Vizcarra (actual presidente del Perú), Ángela Grossheim (anterior cabeza del MINEM), Julio Velarde (presidente del BCRP), Patrick Weiland (jefe del SENACE), Víctor Gobitz (presidente del IIMP) y Gwyneth Kutz (embajadora de Canadá en Perú).

El público asistente estuvo compuesto en gran parte por inversionistas internacionales, líderes empresariales, altos representantes del gobierno peruano y otras instituciones ligadas al sector minero.

Tanto el 5 como el 6 de marzo fueron llevadas a cabo las Technical Sessions (Corporate Presentations) en el pabellón peruano. En este encuentro, el público tuvo la oportunidad de asistir a las exclusivas charlas técnicas sobre temas mineros y sobre productos y servicios para la minería. Los expositores fueron distinguidos profesionales de los sectores público y privado.

AN EXTENSIVE AND RICH PROGRAMME

From March 4-6, the Peruvian delegation participated in various promotional activities. The programme started with the Meet & Greet at the Peruvian pavilion. The pavilion occupied a 54m2 space that was strategically located in a high traffic zone in the MTCC. During the inauguration, the organizers showcased the pavilion’s interactive area where Peru’s comparative advantages were exhibited.

The opening was followed by Investors, Miners & Suppliers (the Social Nerwork Business Lunch), a business luncheon held in Toronto’s elegant and exclusive Jump Restaurant. Investors, businessmen and mining suppliers were able to network during this event.

Monday, March 5 began with the Government and Stakeholders (Breakfast Meeting), an exclusive private breakfast that took place at the MTCC. Senior Government representatives of Peru and important businessmen and mining investors exchanged information about mining.

Mining Investment Opportunities in Peru - Peru Day (Executive Leaders and Investors) was the central event of Peru’s participation in PDAC. The traditional and highly acknowledged Peru Day is an all-day event held at the MTCC. It included lectures, panels and presentations on Peru’s competitiveness and incentives for mining investment. The central theme for 2018 was New Strategies in the Promotion of Investment.

Distinguished speakers from the Peruvian Government and leaders from the private mining sector took part in Peru Day. Martín Vizcarra (current president of Peru), Ángela Grossheim (former head of the MINEM), Julio Velarde (president of the BCRP), Patrick Weiland (head of SENACE), Víctor Gobitz (president of IIMP) and Gwyneth Kutz (Canadian Ambassador to Peru) were among the participants.

The audience was largely made up of international investors, business leaders, senior representatives of the Peruvian Government and other institutions linked to the mining sector.

On March 5 and 6, the Technical Sessions (Corporate Presentations) were held in the Peruvian pavilion. The public had the opportunity to attend the exclusive technical conferences on mining issues and on products and services for mining. The speakers were renowned professionals from the public and private sectors.

El CEO & Investors Luncheon (Investment Firms, Government and Industry). Un exclusivo almuerzo de negocios que, en esta oportunidad, fue realizado en el lujoso Ritz Carlton el 6 de marzo. Gracias a este importante espacio, inversionistas y empresarios nacionales e internacionales presenciaron las exposiciones de la exministra de Economía, Claudia Cooper, y de Peter Hall, vicepresidente y economista jefe de Export Development Canada - EDC. Cooper habló sobre la perspectiva económica del Perú y la minería; mientras que Hall expuso sobre las perspectivas del Perú para la prosperidad. Las exposiciones fueron acompañadas por los comentarios del actual presidente del Perú, Martín Vizcarra quien destacó la importancia de la minería como motor para el desarrollo económico de todos los peruanos.

La participación peruana en PDAC 2018 culminó el viernes 6 de marzo con el Peruvian Cocktail que fue celebrado en el fastuoso Delta Toronto Hotel. Esta recepción es considerada como la más importante organizada por un país latinoamericano en PDAC.

“La participación peruana en PDAC 2018 fue un éxito rotundo. Ha sido el equipo de autoridades de gobierno más representativo de la convención minera”, comentó Grossheim durante el emblemático cocktail.

Gracias a un dinámico, entusiasta y consistente trabajo en equipo, la presencia del Perú en PDAC seguirá creciendo. La CCCP asegura que así ocurrirá en 2019 y que esto, a su vez, se traducirá en mayor inversión minera y mayor bienestar para todos los ciudadanos del Perú.

The CEO & Investors Luncheon (Investment Firms, Government and Industry) is an exclusive business luncheon that was held at the luxurious Ritz Carlton on March 6. The former Minister of Economy, Claudia Cooper, and Peter Hall, vice president and chief economist of Export Development Canada - EDC spoke at this event. Cooper talked about Peru’s economic perspective and mining; while Hall commented on Peru’s prospects for prosperity. The current President of Peru, Martín Vizcarra, also took part in the event and highlighted the importance of mining as an engine for the Peruvian economy and for the well-being of all Peruvians.

The Peruvian participation in PDAC 2018 culminated on Friday, March 6 with the Peruvian Cocktail that took place in the elegant Delta Toronto Hotel. This event is considered the most important cocktail organized by a Latin American country in PDAC.

“Peru’s participation in PDAC 2018 was an absolute success. It has been the delegation in the convention with the most representative Government authorities,“ said Grossheim during the emblematic cocktail.

Luego de tres días de jornadas académicas, el presidente de la República, Martín Vizcarra, clausuró el programa de conferencias de la I Convención AgroMinera – AGROMIN 2018.

“Somos un país donde la minería y la agricultura no sólo pueden coexistir, sino que, además, se complementan y generan sinergia”, destacó el Presidente Vizcarra.

En la ceremonia, participaron el ministro de Agricultura y Riego, Gustavo Mostajo; el ministro de Energía y Minas, Francisco Ísmodes; el ministro de la Producción, Raúl Pérez Reyes y el ministro de Comercio Exterior y Turismo, Rogers Valencia Espinoza.

A su turno, el Ministro Mostajo mencionó que “es importante considerar el binomio entre agricultura y minería. Debemos aprovechar la tecnología que la minería puede aportar a la agricultura para generar un trabajo conjunto beneficioso de cara al desarrollo de las zonas del Perú donde ambas actividades coexisten.”

AGROMIN 2018, contó con un programa de conferencias de primer nivel y con la Feria de exhibición AGROMIN, que durante su realización convocó a empresas de los sectores agrario y minero, convirtiéndose en un espacio comercial que une a ambas actividades para impulsar el desarrollo de la economía del país.

“Durante la realización de AGROMIN, hemos abordado temas fundamentales para la agrominería, seguiremos trabajando en este camino y en ese sentido nos complace anunciar que la próxima Convención AgroMinera se realizará en Cajamarca”, indicó el Ing. Rómulo Mucho, presidente de AGROMIN.

Este año AGROMIN fue llevada a cabo en la ciudad norteña de Trujillo del 6 al 8 de junio.

After three days of academic sessions, the President of Peru, Martín Vizcarra, closed AGROMIN 2018 – the 1st Agro Mining Convention.

“We are a country where mining and agriculture not only coexist, but also complement each other and generate synergy,” President Vizcarra stated.

The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation, Gustavo Mostajo; the Minister of Energy and Mines, Francisco Ísmodes; the Minister of Production, Raúl Pérez Reyes; and the Minister of Foreign Trade and Tourism, Rogers Valencia Espinoza.

“It is important to consider the duality of agriculture and mining. We shall take advantage of the technology that mining can provide agriculture in order to create a joint effort that fosters development in areas of Peru where both activities coexist,” Minister Mostajo mentioned.

AGROMIN 2018 included a top-tier program of conferences and the AGROMIN Trade Fair, which convened companies from agriculture and mining. The convention became a commercial space that brought together both sectors in order to promote the development of our country’s economy.

“In AGROMIN, we have addressed issues that are essential to the agro mining sector, and we will continue to work on this. In that sense, we are pleased to announce that the next Agro Mining Convention will be held in Cajamarca,” Eng. Romulo Mucho, President of AGROMIN, stated.

Edgar Patiño, presidente del Directorio de la Autoridad Portuaria Nacional, expuso en uno de nuestros “Networking Breakfasts” ycomentó sobre el rol que juega hoy la entidad que él dirige en elcrecimiento cuantitativo de las exportaciones peruanas. Habló sobre el Plan Nacional de Desarrollo Portuario y señaló que éste tiene entre sus objetivos potenciar la modernización de la infraestructura y de la conectividad de los puertos peruanos.

Destacó que Canadá fue el 9° mercado más importante para las exportaciones peruanas en 2017 (US$ 1,202 millones).

Edgar Patiño, chairman of the Board of Directors of Peru’s National Port Authority (APN) spoke in one of our Networking Breakfasts about the current role that the APN plays in the quantitative growth of Peruvian exports. He said that the National Port Development Plan promotes the modernization of infrastructure and connectivity of Peruvian ports.

Patiño stressed that, in 2017, Canada was the 9th most important market for Peruvian exports (more than US $ 1.2 billion).

La Cámara de Comercio Canadá-Perú, en su afán por mantener a sus socios actualizados en temas económicos y comerciales de interés nacional, organizó un “Networking Breakfast & Conference” que tuvo como expositor a Edgar Quispe, director ejecutivo de la Autoridad para la Reconstrucción con Cambios.

Quispe señaló que el Plan integral de la reconstrucción con cambios cuenta con S/.25,655 millones como presupuesto total. Este monto cubrirá la ejecución de 12,761 proyectos, 77% de las cuales son de reconstrucción, 21% de prevención y el 2% restante, para capacidades.

La conferencia congregó a empresas constructoras y de ingeniería líderes en el Perú al igual que a representantes de consultoras en infraestructura, transporte y socios de importantes estudios de abogados.

The Canada-Peru Chamber of Commerce regularly carries out events that help its members stay up to date on the latest issues related to Peru’s economy and trade. CONTRALORÍA: SU NUEVA ESTRATEGIA Y MECANISMOS DE PREVENCIÓN DE LA CORRUPCIÓN

La empresa Anddes y la Cámara de Comercio Canadá-Perú organizaron conjuntamente de manera exitosa el segundo taller sobre seguridad de presas de relaves.

Entre los objetivos del taller estuvo comprender las expectativas de una revisión de seguridad de una presa dentro del contexto de la minería que sea consistente con la guía publicada por la Canadian Dam Association. Para alcanzar este objetivo, se analizó un caso para demostrar el nivel de esfuerzo requerido para la evaluación de seguridad de la presa.

El taller congregó a más de medio centenar de participantes, entre ellos, ingenieros, gerentes de Proyecto, gerentes técnicos, consultores y reguladores de las empresas más reconocidas del país.

Nelson Shack, contralor general de la República, participó en una de nuestras plataformas en la cual comentó que la nueva estrategia actualmente usada por la Contraloría no es reactiva, sino preventiva; que se anticipa al acto de corrupción basándose en inconducta funcional por parte del empleado público. Subrayó que la Contraloría busca promover una gestión eficaz y moderna de los recursos públicos en beneficio de todos los peruanos.

Nelson Shack, Comptroller General of the Republic, took part in one of our platforms and emphasized that the new strategy that is currently being used by the Comptrollership is not reactive, but preventive since it anticipates the act of corruption based on functional misconduct on part of public employees. He stressed that the Comptrollership’s goal is to promote efficient and modern management of public resources for the benefit of all Peruvians.

Anddes and the Canada-Peru Chamber of Commerce successfully organized a second workshop on the safety of tailings dams.

Among the workshop’s objectives was to understand the expectations of a safety check of a dam within the context of mining that is consistent with the guidance published by the Canadian Dam Association (CDA). To achieve this objective, a case study was analyzed to demonstrate the level of effort required for the safety assessment of a dam.

The workshop brought together more than fifty participants, including engineers, project managers, technical managers, consultants and regulators from the most prestigious companies operating in Peru.
