Meet The SmithsMeet The Smiths
Wade and Kim Smith chose to make Mesquite their home approximately 15 years ago. They are members of Calvary Temple Community Church in Mesquite. Wade is a Chemical Mixer at Ecolab in Garland, TX. Kim is a Lead Programmer at Fiserv. Wade and Kim have been blessed with two beautiful kids, Michael
and Brooklyn. Michael is a 17 year old Junior at John Horn High School where he is the captain of the Varsity Basketball team. Michael began his love for sports in Mesquite where he began playing soccer at the age of 4 with the Chasers. He then moved on to t-ball and coach pitch with the Cobras. He also played football with the Mesquite Pee-Wee Football Association for 6 years (Panthers and Texans). In the end, his love for basketball reigned supreme. He now plays AAU basketball with Texas Select Elite. Wade and Michael increased their father son bond over the years because Wade has coached Michael in every sport that he has played. Brooklyn is a 9 year old 4th grader at Achziger Elementary. She is a dancer at heart. She is a member of the praise dance team at her church. She has danced with the Mesquite Pee-Wee Football Association (Panthers) for the past 5 years where her mom has been an assistant dance instructor. Brooklyn was also a member of the Beyond Belief Dance Company competitive dance team. Brooklyn has placed first place in many dance competi-tions. Besides being a top notch dancer she is also an athlete. She played basketball this year through the City of Mesquite with the Panthers. The city of Mesquite is near and dear to the Smith family because of the great friends that they’ve made that live in Mesquite, the school system and the kid friendly environment.

April 18 is approaching; yes we do have until April 18 to file your 2010 tax return.Don’t wait until the last moment, schedule your appointment today. Peggy’s Tax Service gets very busy the first two weeks in April, so schedule as soon as possible. Also, if you know you are going to owe taxes, don’t file an extension; there is a 25% penalty for filing late, even if an extension has been filed. The reason for the 25% penalty is because the Internal Revenue Service states in law that if a tax return is filed after April 18, 2010 for year 2010; and money is owed it is filed late, even if an extension has been filed.
Self Employed Individuals
For self employed individuals, please do not file an extension if you know you are going to owe taxes that have not been paid. When an individual owes money and files an extension, they are hit with a 25% penalty for not filing timely, even with an extension filed! What the tax preparer needs to see when visiting with a client is income verses expenses and equipment purchased and dates on equipment purchases. If you are a new client coming for the first time, please bring a copy of your 2009 tax return for the preparer to view.

If we have done your taxes in the past, we will have your information on file, but you need to call and tell the customer service representatives to schedule your extension. If you are new to our company, we will need your social security numbers and addresses and a small amount of information to file the extension for you family.

Keep an Eye on Harmful UV Rays
Most Americans understand the importance of protecting their skin from the sun but they seldom make an effort to protect their eyes. Many are unaware that exposure to ultraviolet (UV)
radiation can harm the eyes and affect vision as well.
According to the American Optometric Association (AOA), even on an overcast day, harmful UV rays can cause sunburn of both the skin and the cornea of the eye. Over time, unprotected exposure to the sun can increase the possible risk of certain types of cataracts and potentially damage the retina, which could lead to total blindness. Americans should also know that UV damage is cumulative, so it’s never too late to begin protecting the eyes from the sun’s harmful rays.
The following top five tips from the American Optometric Association can help prevent further eye damage from exposure to UV radiation:
1. Wear protective eyewear any time your eyes are exposed to UV light, even on cloudy days and during winter months.2. Look for quality sunglasses that offer good protection. Sunglasses should block xout 99 to 100 percent of both UV-A and UB-B radiation and screen out 75 to 90 percent of visible light.3. Check to make sure your sunglass lenses are perfectly matched in color and free of distortion and imperfection.4. Purchase gray-colored lenses. They reduce light intensity without altering the color of objects, providing the most natural color vision. 5. Don’t forget protection for children and teenagers. They typically spend more time in the sun than adults.
Additionally, be sure to receive routine comprehensive eye exams. It’s a good way to monitor eye health, maintain good vision, and keep up to date on the latest in UV radiation protection.
