Dear Friends:

The YWCA has long been a place to which women and families can turn for programs and services that foster a sense of hope and possibil-ity. Whether it’s access to affordable child care, workshops on economic self-sufficiency, affordable housing, links to vital health care information and services or help escaping domes-tic violence, they know what they will find here: caring, compassionate and highly skilled support.

The year ahead promises to be exciting. We are finalizing the steps to combine with YWCA Haverhill, where we now offer after-school care and domestic vio-lence services. We’ve also welcomed the North Shore Rape Crisis Center based in Lynn to the YWCA family of programs. We are committed to ensuring that women throughout Essex County receive the most compassionate and culturally appropriate services possible when they need them the most.

We are also pleased to continue our work with YWCA USA to advocate for the needs of women and families, with a particular focus on protection from domestic violence, sexual assault, pay equity and immigration reform.

The YWCA has been part of this community since 1892. Now, as then, we are committed to promoting economic empowerment and creating a community where all people enjoy equal access to educational opportunity, quality health care, affordable housing and living-wage jobs.

We are grateful to our supporters and dedicated staff, who make the work of the YWCA possible.

With best regards,

Margaret Crockett Rebecca A. Hall President, Board of Directors Executive Director

Our highly effective, evidence-based Stanford University Chronic Disease Self-Management workshops teach women and men to cope with chronic disease by becoming physically active, managing their medication regimens and taking charge of their health care.

Our transitional and permanent hous-ing programs give women survivors of violence and their children, as well as homeless parenting teens, the tools to heal and become self-sufficient. In apartment-style settings, residents receive services when they’re with us, and receive follow up services once they move to safe, permanent housing.

YWCA Women’s Health Advocates and volunteer Health Ambassadors are everywhere in the community, educat-ing about breast health, helping families to obtain health insurance and focusing on healthy nutrition and activity choices to help prevent breast cancer, heart disease, diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

For the fifth year running, 100% of chil-dren graduating from our Early Learning Center have tested at or above state kindergarten readiness standards. Our program has been recognized by the U.S. Dept. of Education as a Center of Excel-lence in recognition of its strong focus on literacy and school preparedness.

...successful youthGirls and boys learn to make healthy choices, succeed in school and become leaders in our After-School programs, including our Girls Lead and Urban Ex-plorers clubs. Homework help, tutoring and the Computer Center are mainstays of the program and contribute to build-ing a solid educational foundation.

We continue to serve and advocate for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault of all ages through community based services in Essex and Middlesex Counties. Our Child Advocacy Project is a free program for children under 13 who are victims of sexual assault or abuse and their non-offending family members, helping them to heal and take steps to seek justice.
