The 2015 Top O’ The Rockies Rally is in the books and our reputation remains intact. I need to start right off by thanking Carl Thomte, my Co-Rally Master, for being
there for all the months of preparation arriving 2 days earlier to coordinate setup in Paonia. It was a bang-up success!
Paid attendance was 548 riders. They came from 40 states (3 more than last year) and 3 Canadian provinces. Setting us apart from most, if not all other rallies, 9 of our Board members greeted and spoke with everyone on the Saturday evening food line. I very much appreciate that they agreed to do that, but judging from all the laughter going on, they seemed to have had a lot of fun with it. So did the guests.
Be proud of your Club. Some of the stories we heard repeatedly included:
• Well over half said they had attended TOR in previous years, often several times. • “Everyone in my club told me that if I can only make one rally, it has to be Paonia.”• “There are two great rallies each year, the Finger Lakes, NY rally and Paonia TOR”(We’ve heard that particular story in previous years too. Guess I’ll have to take a ride back to Finger Lakes sometime!)• “I can’t believe how friendly the town is to all of us.”
It’s a much longer list than this, but it was all positive. The weather gods treated us kindly. We got rained on only briefly and only during sleeping hours. The temperatures were mild the whole time. There were no accidents that we know of, coming, going or while there. The wine tour was fully subscribed at 60 people and everyone loved it. The Kid’s Pasta Project dinner had a full house. The Thursday evening movie was well attended and the high school senior class served free hot popcorn to all. As happened last year, we had live music all 3 nights, thanks to KVNF locating a local band for us. Last but not least, our prior planning for
this year’s beer garden really paid off. KVNF did a fabulous job in creating a much more guest-friendly area for both the beer garden and the music venue.
Of course, there is always something to not go as planned. Our guests didn’t seem too upset about this, but our internet connection crashed about every 5 minutes for the first day and a half, keeping us from taking credit cards The problem wasn’t resolved until TDS came out and installed a 2nd phone line. This rather significant aggravation was handled beautifully by Scott Kellogg, managing all registrations in his 11th year of volunteering. The whole time the internet was failing, registration was being staffed by 3 volunteers who were not even from our Club! One was from Texas and the other 2, a couple who just live in Paonia and wanted to help. How’s that for nice! Larry Beetham stepped up to return the field games to our agenda. Keren and Michael Kilgore ran the Store with fellow Club members taking turns helping out. John Coker drove the club supplies over and back. Bob Bushta, our Paonia contact . . . I just can’t ever say enough about him and his kids. No kidding, it all looked like we knew what we were doing. If you missed it, you missed a great party! Thanks everyone!!!

BMWMCC has four (4) elected officer positions which are filled annually by election from the membership. Siggi Pflumm is our Election Officer and he is tasked with accepting nominations, validating that the individuals are qualified to run, announcing the qualified candidates and overseeing whatever voting takes place. BMWMCC annual Officer elections will be conducted in the month of October. This is your opportunity to get involved and make a positive contribution to your club. RUN FOR OFFICE or join us as a volunteer! The current status of incumbent officers is as follows: Frank Ricci (Treasurer) and Jeff Kelley (Secretary) both intend to run for re-election for those positions. Mike Szabo (Vice President) is undecided at this time. Jeff Burns (President) will be stepping down at the end of the year and will remain on the Board as trustee after that. There are no additional declared candidates as of now. You may nominate yourself or have any other member nominate you. You must be a member in good standing for at least six months and declare your willingness to run. Candidates for the office of President must own and operate a BMW motorcycle. For other positions, there is no specific brand requirement.
