@Malwani Township English School
ObjectiveTo create an awareness of cleanliness for
prevention of illness and diseases
Origin of the Thought The school and class surroundings were not kept clean on a
regular basis The teachers put forth the problem on debate Students discussed the reasons for the problems
Outcome of discussions Students concluded that : Class attendance has been low due to illness which feeds into low
academic scores. Parents spend a lot of money on medicines and treatment . Communities are not conscious that their surroundings are not
clean. Communities do not make the connection between unhygienic
surroundings and increasing cases of illness.
PlanCreate awareness in school
Discuss hygiene and cleanliness during assembly- students made posters and put them in each classroom.
Conscious effort to correct if wrong done- students took on the responsibility to keep a check on those who litter the school.
Create awareness in the place that students liveStage a road show- a street play Create slogans and placardsInvolve the area corporatorDo a cleanliness march in the community Follow up to be done on a weekly basis in the
community
Work towards change
March towards Cleanliness begins…Ready Steady …
Students educate ….
Mumbai Reaffirms…
ImpactStudents visit the site on a weekly basis to
keep the cleanliness drive alive. Students clean the area and speak to the residents personally.
The students want to take up one more issue to problem-solve . They want to make an impact however small it may be.
How we changed
Students have a greater sense of responsibilty towards the society. They want to take up more issues and do something about it.
Some students have already come up with ideas – they want to collect money to buy more dustbins for the school. Some want to find a way to put street children into school. They want to visit their houses and convince their parents to send those kids to school.
