BUSHFIRE AWAREBUSHFIRE AWARE

The bushfire season is rapidly approaching. As we all like to go on holidays, visiting favourite campsites, beaches and national parks as the weather warms up, it is a timely reminder that all families develop a Bushfire

Survival Plan to prepare for the possibility of bushfire. For further information and suggestions visit www.fesa.wa.gov.au.

VALE SKATE PARKVALE SKATE PARK

Our school is currently being affected by ongoing antisocial issues at the skate park before and after school. Parents are asked to engage in conversation with their children about these issues and to take the opportunity to discuss appropriate strategies to deal with unsociable behaviour if this occurs while they are there. We would also encourage families to provide appropriate locking devices for their children’s scooters and bicycles as there have been recent incidents of theft from school. Engraving may also be helpful in identifying your child’s scooter

or bike.

DID YOU KNOW?DID YOU KNOW?

The human brain is literally a ‘work

in progress’! In the first few years of life

the brain is growing rapidly. By the time children are three years old, 90% of the brain has developed so experiences in the

early years are very important.

Loving and caring relationships with you, your family, friends, the school and school community help children develop socially, emotionally and intellectually. Play is particularly important in childhood learning. Play gives children opportunities to practise skills, communicate with others, take on challenges and solve problems in fun and enjoyable ways. Singing, playing games, talking, climbing, dancing, reading, writing, and drawing all help

the brain develop ways of thinking and learning.

Checkout the fact sheets at http://www.det.wa.edu.au/schoolsandyou/detcms/portal/ if you are you looking for more

great activities to do with your child at home.

SCHOOL NUMBERS 2016SCHOOL NUMBERS 2016

You are asked to please ring or write to us if your child will not be attending Aveley PS in 2016. It is essential that numbers are accurate to ensure precise staffing and class lists at the beginning of the school year. It also would be most helpful if you informed us of any children who may be attending in 2016 that

are not currently enrolled.

CLASS PLACEMENTS 2016CLASS PLACEMENTS 2016

If you need to bring to our attention any factors that concern your child’s placement in 2016, please write a formal letter or email [email protected] at your earliest convenience. In the main sound educational reasons will be considered as a

priority.

CHRISTMAS CAROLS CHOCHRISTMAS CAROLS CHOIRIR

It is the time again for us to begin rehearsals for our huge annual performance at the Aveley Community Carols on Saturday, 5 December. Rehearsals begin next Thursday, 5 November from 8AM to 8.30AM in the music room each week leading up to the event. All children from Kindy to year 6 who are interested need to attend all 5 rehearsals from this date as we have lots of festive fun to get

through!

WESTERN SWAMP TORTOISE STICKER EXCURSIONWESTERN SWAMP TORTOISE STICKER EXCURSION

On Tuesday this week I was thrilled to take the 6 finalists from the Western Swamp Tortoise Drain Sticker Competition we entered last year on an exciting local excursion. We were so excited to be chosen for the winning design. We went out and walked the streets applying the final drain stickers with special glue. There's some in our carpark, around the back of the school and local streets near the lake and surrounds. Keep an eye out for these fantastic designs. Please also check the school Facebook page for an album of very cool pictures from the day. Thanks to Jan from the Friends of The Western Swamp Tortoise for her assistance and guidance. It is important we take an interest in protecting our endangered fauna that can not protect

itself.

MUSIC COUNT US INMUSIC COUNT US IN

Yesterday we participated yet again in a huge nationwide event where over 550,000 Australian students all simultaneously sang the same song at the exact same time. Music Count Us In is an annual event that promotes song writing, lyric awareness and the benefits of music in education and in life. Almost 500 wonderfully pitched and rhythmically gifted Aveley students sang the song ‘Gold’ in

unison. Just amazing.

Thanks to all of the parents and friends who came along to watch and listen. We had a group of dedicated performers out the front who have spent the last few weeks rehearsing with myself at lunchtimes to lead the school. Everyone was outstanding! Check

our school Facebook page for pictures.

P & C NEWS

COMMUNITY NEWS

Hi Everyone,

Hope you have all had a good week!

Firstly this week I would like to thank all of the parents that volunteered to help with the Sausage Sizzle at this years sports carnival. Weather you helped out for an hour or the entire day it really is appreciated. You have given the P&C your own personal free time to help our school which benefits our children. Without your support as a P&C we can't raise the funds

we need to build a better school, and for that we say

As mentioned in the previous informer we have the Multicultural Open Night on Friday, 6 November on the school grounds starting at 5PM. There will be food vendors for you to buy some delicious dinner and the P&C will be selling cold drinks from the canteen in the undercover area. Bring along your picnic rugs, sit

back, relax and enjoy your dinner while been entertained by Indonesian dancing, art activities, and more. This is sure to be

the biggest event of the year.

For those children that are ordering lunches from the school canteen by dropping off their orders in the morning please be careful when dropping your order in. The canteen box is located inside the administration office (and is separate from the P&C box outside. The canteen staff don't have access to the P&C box. Therefore if your child puts their lunch

order in the wrong box it may go astray.

Save the date - Friday, 27 November is this years school disco. More details will follow in the

upcoming weeks……….

This Monday, 2 November is the P&C meeting at 6.30PM to be held in the school library. It is always nice to see new faces. So if you have never been before we would love to see you this

Monday.

Take care and have a great weekend!
