UPCOMING SCHEDULE & PROBABLES Sun., 9/05 -- @ Louisville -- 6:05 p.m. RHP Chris Jakubauskas (IND) vs. LHP Jeremy Horst Mon., 9/06 -- @ Louisville -- 1:05 p.m. RHP Brad Lincoln (IND) vs. LHP Ben Jukich MEDIA RELATIONS Brian Bosma Chris Binnall media relations manager media relations assistant 317-269-3542 ext. 263 317-269-3542 ext. 369 317-250-6807 (cell) 508-783-9113 (cell) [email protected] [email protected] ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TONIGHT’S TRIBE STARTER: Tonight’s probable starting pitcher for Indianapolis, Jeremy Powell, will make his final start of the 2010 campaign in the Tribe’s home finale this evening ... Powell also started the Indians’ final home game of the 2009 campaign, and in that contest, the right-hander did not figure in the game’s final decision – a 7-4 Louisville Bats victory – despite allowing only two runs (one earned) on seven hits in seven strong innings of work ... In two starts against the Louisville Bats this season, Powell has posted a perfect 2-0 record and a solid 3.00 ERA (4 ER), while he has struck out 12 batters in 12.0 innings of work ... In his first start of the season against Louisville, Powell earned his fifth win of the season after he held the Bats to four runs (three earned) on seven hits in six innings of work in a 9-7 Indianapolis victory on July 6 ... In his most recent start against tonight’s opponent, the right-hander earned his 10th victory of the year after he tossed six sparkling innings of work and allowed just one run, while striking seven Bats’ batters ... With a victory in his final start of the season, Powell (10-9) will have won the most games in his professional baseball career since he posted a 12-9 record in 1996 when he pitched for the Single-A Delmarva Shorebirds in the Montreal Expos organization. LEADING THE WAY AT HOME: Twenty three position players have appeared in a game at Victory Field during the 2010 campaign and a number those players have posted impressive statistics at home this season: OF Brandon Moss: One of the few players to have spent the entire season with Indianapolis, Moss is the leader in multiple batting categories at home this year ... The left-handed slugger leads the way for the Indians in games played (67), at-bats (243), runs scored (43), hits (71), doubles (17), home runs (14) and RBI (54). OF Kevin Melillo: After being activated from the Double-A Altoona disabled list on May 8, Melillo was inserted into the Indians’ starting lineup for the first time on May 11 and was penciled in as the team’s left fielder, a position he had only played twice in his professional baseball career ... Since his home starting debut, the outfielder has never looked back, as he has posted the best batting average at home this season (.332, 62-for-187). INF Brian Friday and OF Alex Presley: Both of these young players have shown their speed on the base paths at home this season and they are currently tied for the team lead in triples at home with four. INF/OF Brian Myrow: Although he has spent some time on the disabled list this season, his limited playing time at Victory Field hasn’t had any ill-effects on Myrow’s patience at the plate this season, as the infielder holds the top spots in walks at home with 27 ... Myrow’s 55 walks this season give him the sixth-most bases on balls in the International League this year. OF Jose Tabata: Despite being promoted to the Major League level on June 9, Tabata still ranks in the top 10 in the International League in steals with 25 ... To no surprise, the speedy outfielder has also paced all Indians’ players in thefts at home this season, as he successfully swiped 14 bags in 26 games at home. INF Pedro Alvarez: Before Alvarez was promoted to the Pittsburgh Pirates on June 16, the talented slugger posted impressive offensive numbers at Victory Field ... The third baseman leads all Tribe batters in both slugging percentage (.573) and on-base percentage (.424) at home, and in just 32 contests he collected 36 hits, 22 runs scored, 10 doubles, five home runs and 26 RBI. TURNING THE LIGHTS OUT AT THE VIC: Since the Indianapolis Indians began play at Victory Field in 1996, the Tribe has posted a 4-10 record in the final home game of the season ... In home finales, Indianapolis has squared off against Louisville 11 different times and has posted a 2-9 record in those contests, while being outscored by the Bats 50-34 ... The Tribe has faced Louisville in the team’s last six home finales with the Indians having lost the last five meetings between the two teams ... The longest home finale in terms of time lasted three hours and 26 minutes in both 1998 and 2003, while the shortest game was only two hours and 16 minutes long in 2001 ... An average of 13,986 fans have come out for each of the Indians’ Victory Field finales, while 195,808 total fans have been in attendance for the team’s last 14 home finales ... The high attendance mark in the Tribe’s home finale at Victory Field was 16,068 in 2003, while the low was set in 1997 when 5,416 fans were in attendance. THE CHASE FOR THE RBI CROWN: With his three-run home run in the sixth inning last night, Indians’ OF Brandon Moss improved his team-leading RBI total to 93, which gives him the second-highest RBI mark in the International League this season ... The left-handed slugger is now just two RBI back of former Durham Bulls’ and current Tampa Bay Rays’ INF Dan Johnson’s IL-leading 95 RBI in the chase for the league’s RBI crown ... Former Gwinnett Braves’ and current Atlanta Braves’ INF Freddie Freeman is third in the IL with 87 RBI on the year ... The Indians’ outfielder has also been one of the most consistent contributors for the Tribe offense this season, and, among current players, he leads the team in games played (133), at-bats (492), runs scored (71), hits (130), doubles (31), home runs (22), RBI (93) and total bases (229). PIRATES’ PROSPECT KEEPS PRODUCING: With his eighth inning single in last night’s contest against the Louisville Bats, Indians’ OF Alex Presley reached a milestone of sorts for Pittsburgh Pirates’ Minor League players ... The single was Presley’s 163rd hit of the season between Double-A Altoona and Triple-A Indianapolis, which puts him among a company of only six other Pirates’ minor leaguers to tally at least 163 hits in a season since 1995 ... That list of players is headed by former Indians’ player and current Altoona Curve INF Jim Negrych (2008), as well as Adrian Brown (1996) and Jose Guillen (1996), who each tallied 170 hits in a season and is rounded out by Ray Navarrete (169 hits in 2002), former Indians’ OF Nate McClouth (166 hits in 2004) and Walter Young (164 hits in 2002) ... Needless to say, the young outfielder has excelled with Double-A Altoona and Triple-A Indianapolis, setting single-season, career-highs in games played (133), runs scored (85), hits (163), doubles (28), triples (13), home runs (12) and RBI (84) … Presley also continues to lead all Pittsburgh Pirates’ Minor Leaguers in hits with 163, a total which also ranks among the top 15 in all of Minor League baseball, while he is also tops in the Pittsburgh organization in batting average (.323), ranks second in runs scored (85) and is third in RBI (84), behind only High-A Bradenton’s Quincy Latimore (100) and current Indianapolis teammate Brandon Moss (93). LOOKING TO BREAK EVEN: With last night’s 16-6 loss against the Louisville Bats, the Indians’ record at Victory Field dropped to 35-36 on the season ... If the Tribe hopes to avoid its first losing season at home since they posted a 35-37 record at Victory Field in 2003 (the Tribe went 64-78 overall that season), the team must win its home finale against the Bats this evening ... The Indians last posted a .500 record at Victory, when they went 36-36 at home last season.
