This professional program goes beyond the classroom, giving you hands-on, solution-based experiences to use your development skills particularly in Indigenous communities. WHY THE UNIVERSITY OF WINNIPEG? UWinnipeg is a dynamic and diverse academic community renowned for research, scholarship, creativity and innovation. It is committed to access and academic excellence, and makes student-centered education and research a priority. UWinnipeg is becoming a world centre for Indigenous education with strong relationships with Indigenous Elders, governments, leaders and communities, along with governments, students, faculty, practitioners, guest lecturers and community members from Canada and abroad. Our MDP Advisory Circle, led by Canadian Dr. Phil Fontaine, the highly respected former National Chief of the Assembly of First Nations, will work with the University to ensure the program’s integrity and to integrate Indigenous knowledge in your teachings. WHY YOU? As a graduate of this program you will be a development practitioner equipped with the knowledge and skills to create change. Admission requirements are: a relevant undergraduate degree with a 3.0 or higher GPA a strong interest in international development and excellent leadership skills a unique and specialized skill set that will set YOU apart from the crowd • a desire to work within Indigenous governments and organizations – in all levels of government – and in non-governmental organizations, both locally and abroad Dr. Lloyd Axworthy, UWinnipeg President and Vice-Chancellor, former Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Nobel Peace Prize nominee: “Currently, the bulk of development leaders are trained in narrow fields, which limits critical thinking. The MDP program broadens training and provides students with a greater knowl- edge base. MDP graduates will be more effective and have a better understanding to address the root causes of extreme poverty and the challenges of sustainable development.” The University of Winnipeg offers you a unique Master’s in Development Practice (MDP) degree with a focus in Indigenous Development. Supported by the MacArthur Foundation, UWinnipeg is part of a global network of 22 universities worldwide offering this unique program.
