External Hydraulic Balance LineCornell’s external hydraulic balance lineequalizes pressure between the impellerhub area and the pump suction. Thisbalances axial forces to ensure bearing lifeis maximized and the pressure on theprocess side of the seal is minimized.An additional benefit is realized by the flushing action, which prevents theaccumulation of system debris in the seal area. Moreover, the externalhydraulic balance line does not introduce any flow disturbance in theimpeller eye, which helps maintain superior NPSHR characteristics.

Mounting ConfigurationsCornell industrial process pumps are availablein a variety of mounting configurations. Themost economical styles are close-coupled units mounted in ahorizontal or vertical fashion. Frame-mounted pumps areoffered both horizontally or vertically.Cornell also offers frame-mounted units with a SAE bell housing forengine coupling. Cornell uses the same high efficiency pump-ends for oursubmersible product group. Cornell submersible pumps are available for awide range of performance applications. Capacities range from 80 GPM to20,000 GPM and TDH from 10 feet to 350 feet, providing Cornell a clearadvantage when it comes to design condition fit.

Cycloseal®The patented Cycloseal® is a self-contained single mechanical sealwith a dished backplate. Thisconfiguration requires no externalflushing which is ideal foreliminating water usage normallyassociated with mechanical seals.The Cycloseal® uses stationary"protrusions" cast into the pumpbackplate in conjunction withcontoured impeller back vanes anddished backplate to create pressure

gradients which move solids away from the seal faces. As a result, therequirement associated with an external water flush for abrasiveservice is avoided. The Cycloseal® design is available in allwaste handling pumps, and many process, hot oil andfood handling pumps.

BYPASS STATIONThe Cornell Station Bypasssystem is a stand aloneemergency pump unit. Thebypass station includes Redi-Prime® self-priming pumpswith run dry capability.Incorporated in the design isa semi-permanent mooringfeature that enables the end-user a secured onsiteemergency pumping solution.An optional sound enclosureis available. Moreover,multiple systems can beutilized with one transport ortrailer.

CO N S T R U C T I O N & DE W A T ECornell’s dry priming as opposed to a conventional wet priming self-primer is the best solution available to address the self-priming needs ofthe construction anddewatering industries.At Cornell, we’ve builtour worldwidereputation on qualityand reliability. OurRedi-Prime® pumps areengineered andmanufactured to provideultra-reliable trouble-free operation. CornellPump Company issetting the standard forthe construction anddewatering pumpmarketplace. Cornell’s hydraulic efficiencies typically exceed 80% -significantly more than our competition. Moreover, Cornell’s automaticpriming and re-priming requirements are achieved with a 50 SCFMdiaphragm vacuum pump.Cornell’s priming system was specifically designed with the environmentin mind. By incorporating a positive sealing float box and a diaphragmvacuum pump into the priming assembly, there is absolutely no watercarry-over. Consequently, environmental contamination associated withthe priming system is eliminated.

Cycloseal® & Run-Dry FeatureCornell’s patented (# 5489187) Cycloseal® design, with its unique deflectorvanes, works with the impeller backvanes to create a cyclo-action. Thisaction removes solids and abrasive materials from the seal area while

purging air and gas pockets,which extends seal life and

eliminates any need for ventingor water flushing.

Run – Dry FeatureCornell’s Run-Dry system consistsof an auxiliary gland whichprovides containment for anapplication-specific lubricant.This lubricant prevents dryrunning of the seal faces whilepriming, re-priming and standby

operating environments.

Industrial RefrigerationEnhanced vapor handling and NPSHRcharacteristics are at the heart of Cornell’slatest liquid overfeed pump innovations.Cornell has incorporated these designfeatures into our liquid overfeed pumpswhile maintaining a four-pole or six-poleoperating speed for all close-coupled pumps.

Cornell’s liquid overfeed pumps have beenused successfully in variety of applications such as: cold storagerefrigeration, food processing refrigeration, ice chiller refrigeration andturbine inlet cooling.

Due to the ultra-reliable Refrigerant Emission Free™ Sealing Technology,Cornell refrigerant pumps are commonly employed in liquid overfeed andtransfer pump applications utilizing anhydrous ammonia, aqueousammonia, halocarbons such as R-22 and other approved refrigerants.These pumps are designed specifically to handle moderate to high-pressure differentials.

Saturated LiquidsCornell Pump Company’s CBH/CB pump series are a welcomealternative to regenerative turbines, especially for requirements

associated with boiler feed, condensate return and other saturatedliquid applications. Cornell’s single stage centrifugal CBH/CBpumps are capable of achieving capacities up to 400 GPMand pressure differentials of 140 PSI, while maintainingNPSH requirements of less than two feet.

The extremely low NPSH requirements of all CornellCBH/CB pumps are derived from hydraulics designed

specifically for saturated liquid applications. Performance is furtherenhanced throughout the entire operating range of all Cornell

CBH/CB series pumps due to the single-stage impeller and 1800 RPMoperating speed. Operating speeds above 1800 RPM are available forapplications associated with higher head requirements.

GlycolIn many refrigeration applications, secondary coolants such as ethyleneand propylene glycols are used as a heat transfer media. The secondarybrine is cooled by the primary refrigerant and used to transmit heatwithout changing state. Cornell’s clear liquids handling pumps arecommonly used to recirculate the secondary coolants. These pumps arerugged, extremely efficient and designed specifically for long service life.

Food HandlingCornell understands the important role food handling pumpsplay in today’s marketplace. Cornell’s innovative single portimpeller configuration with a patented offset voluteprovides the end user with a food handling pumpcapable of transporting even the most delicate foodproducts, such as potatoes, carrots, cherries,lettuce, and many others.Cornell’s unique single portimpeller reduces product damage andensures product integrity. The singleport impeller is a proven featureconsisting of a large and and roundedleading vane edge designed specifically for handlingwhole or processed foods.

Hot Cooking OilEnhanced vapor handling andNPSHR characteristics are central

to Cornell’s latest hotcooking oil pump

innovations. Whenfresh productpasses through thefryers a great dealof water is evolved.

The water travelsalong the bottom of the

fryer, intact in a liquid phase at 200°C,until it reaches the pump suction. Here the action of the impeller breaks upthe water into smaller droplets which flash to steam. Ordinarily, entrainedsteam would severely impact pump head and flow, but another Cornellinnovation prevents this type of degradation. The "vapor suppression line"was developed in response to this phenomenon.

Food Process & WasteCornell’s food product group is not limited tofood handling and hot cooking oil applications.Our process and waste pumps arefrequently used in starch recovery, waterreturn, circulation, chilled water, foodproduct waste and many other foodprocess applications. Cornell’s clear liquidpumps are constructed in all iron for foodapplications. Many optional metallurgies arealso available. Standard features include fullymachined impellers, heavy-duty shafts withreplaceable shaft sleeves, and peripheral wear rings.
