Springtime?

It seems to be here. Maybe. Except for rain and snow that happens in the middle of 60-70 degree days! I’m so confused.

But it doesn’t stop me from getting out in this beautiful weather and planning for photo excursions in the next few months.

I hope you’re doing the same!

Creativity...

Ever get stuck or question why you’re shoot-ing? See if these can help you get unstuck.

CREATIVITY QUESTIONS

By Larry Hartlaub

Ever in a funk taking/making photographs? Larry Hartlaub, a member of our Competition Committee, has put together questions that we photographers might ask ourselves.

(1) Why do I photograph?

(2) Why do I not instead take up woodworking, collecting stamps, coins, or bobble-head dolls, or just travel to interesting sites?

(3) What are my photography goals?

(4) How do I know if I am making progress reaching my goals?

(5) Do I depend on others to help me reach my goals?

(6) How do I depend on others to help me reach my goals?

(7) With whom do I want my photographs to speak?

(8) Do my photographs satisfy me?

(9) If I am not satisfied with my photographs, why not?

(10) Who is the best judge of my photography?

(11) If I had unlimited time, unlimited money, great health and all the courage I need, what would I photograph? Why, what purpose?

(12) Do I ever feel creative or inspired to take photographs?

(13) What creates this feeling of inspiration or creativity? Is this under my control? If so, how do I make it happen?

(14) Do I have sources that help me to be inspired or more creative? What are my sources – such as photography galleries, museums, books, magazine articles, talking with other photographers, workshops, tutorials, etc?

He will also offer advice on camera equipment, clothing and other gear to be best pre-pared.

Our favorite monthly subject. Freedom to shoot and submit what you want. No limitations on subject, just make sure it’s an excellent photo that can hold its own against a wide variety of others.

Judge will be Paul Weinrauch

Frame #37

A collection of extra tidbits discovered during the past few weeks.

— Depth of Field 2020 - B&H's Wedding, Portrait and Event Photography Conference was held in February. Fortunately, they have posted videos of both days on Youtube. Day 1 here; Day 2 here. Read the Description to see the breakdown of presenters and where to skip to in the video to see them.

— Subpar Parks on Instagram. “Real one-star reviews of US national parks: apparently America's best idea wasn't all that great” See gems like Bryce Canyon NP - “Too orange – too spikey”

If you only photograph when you feel like it… you’ll never be totally successful as a photographer.
