What is Google Drive? Google Drive is a cloud based storage app within Google which allows users to create documents or upload other files to access from any loca-tion or device.

As a student this allows you to create documents even when you are not in school and it is still accessible from devices like your smartphone, with the same login you use when in a lesson. All you need is an Internet Connection.

Google Drive

How to access Google Drive Here we will explain how to access Google Drive on your Smartphone or a school/home computer/laptop.

You will need to login to your google account. It is recommended that you sign into Google Chrome or go to RM Unify. At home you can access your account in the same way, there is a link to RM Unify on the school websites, or just search in Google for ‘RM Unify Login’. It will look like this.

Using Google Drive Within Google Drive you are able to create different types of documents, using Docs, Slides and Sheets. Pri-marily these are slightly altered versions of Microsoft: Word, Powerpoint and Excel. You also have access to Google Drawings which allows you to use different shapes, text and upload images. The best way to keep any documents you have created organized is by using Folders.

Google Classroom

What is Google Classroom? Google Classroom is a cloud based forum style school focused ser-vice that allows a student (or students) to interact with the teachers or particular classes.

As a Student you can view assignments set by your teacher. You are then able to complete and submit work for the teacher to mark, the teacher can also leave feedback for you to read.

How to access Google Classroom Accessing Google Classroom is essentially the same steps as accessing Google Drive (see previous pages for support). After you are on the main RMUnify follow the same steps however instead of selecting Google Drive se-lect Google Classroom.

How to view tasks set by a teacher To view homework or tasks set,

1. Once logged in to Google Classroom 2. Click on the class that you wish to view

Having clicked on the appropriate classroom, you will be in a Google Classroom. Here, you will have 3 tabs in front of you; "Stream", "Classwork" and "People".

The Stream page

The stream works similarly to a social network page. The most recent post that a teacher has added to the Google Classroom will be at the top and the oldest will be at the bottom. Each post will be associated with the subject that you are learning with that teacher. When a teacher posts an assignment on their Google Classroom, it will contain the name of the task, a description of what you have to do and possibly associated resources where possible. It will also have a due date for when the work needs to be completed. Once you have clicked into an assignment you will then need to complete and submit your work, this can be found below in the ‘Completing and Submitting work’ section.

The Classwork page

The classwork page is where you will find a very clear and easy list of all your current set assignments with their due date very visible to see.

The People page

The people page is where you will find who your teacher is of this class and your classmates, from here you can email your teacher (or teachers) if you have any questions.

Live streaming

Your teacher may want to remotely teach a lesson to you via live streaming. Your teacher will communicate this to you via the stream page with an announcement of a date and time of when this will be happening. Your teacher will then post via the stream page a link for you to click. This will then allow you to view the live stream at the designated time and date communicated to you.

Google Drive

If you have already created your work, then by selecting this you can attach the work directly from your Google Drive.

File

If you have chosen to upload a file from your device you will need to re-upload the file if any changes are made to the file from your device, as these changes will not be saved to the already uploaded document.

Create new

If you have chosen to create a new document from the "Create" section, then simply click on the file and then you can start working. The file will open in a separate tab and will save automatically until closed. You are able to go back to this document to work on it as many times as you wish before submitting it, from your original assignment or Google Drive.

Pupil Safeguarding

How to keep yourself safe when using Google Classroom

The school’s expectations in terms of behaviour and conduct will remain in place when using Google Classroom. If you follow these guidelines below you will be doing all the right things to keep yourself safe.

• Google Classroom is a great resource to have. Keep it positive. Do not upload anything that could offend or upset someone else or that would go against our behaviour expectations.

• You have the ability to email your teachers. Please consider whether your email is necessary and only use this function for genuine reasons. Please do not be offended if your teacher does not reply.

• If you are unable to speak to a staff member in person and feel you need support, you can send a text message to our Safetext number 07840756950.

We ask all pupils to think before you upload something to Google Classroom. If you do not follow this guidance and behave in an unacceptable way, the school has the right to remove you from Google Classroom, meaning you would no longer have access to this valuable resource
