The year 2005 has been another one of growth for the pleasure-craft industry and Ingemar has recorded a general increase in its activity both in Italy and abroad. The substantial investments made in 2004 have certainly favoured this positive trend. The production capacity of the new factory at Casale sul Sile (Treviso) and the recent acquisition of a large area fitted out for the building of floating breakwaters, have determined an increase in production and accelerated delivery times whilst the expansion of the technical office and site-assistance in the shipbuilding industry has ensured the necessary resources to tackle ever more complex and demanding projects and installations. The same commitment in rationalising growth of activity, ever more concentrated on satisfying our clients' requirements, has recently led to the separation of Ingemar's purely commercial side from the engineering and production activities. This has brought about the creation of Ingemar Trading & Service, a more agile and incisive sister company but maintaining the same shareholders and managers. The growing interest in floating breakwaters and the ever more demanding fields of application, have necessitated new studies and laboratory testing to improve performance and reliability of the breakwaters and anchorage systems to the sea floor. The tank trials were carried out by the I.M.A.G.E. Institute of Padua University. The exceptional experience acquired in the sector of special structures has led to the production of dependable solutions to the new and growing request for floating piers and moorings for mega yachts. Particularly exacting has been the participation by Ingemar in important acquatic events. The most significant of all being the creation of the floating pier for mega yachts at the new Marina Fiera di Genova for the 45th Genoa Boat Show with Ingemar as the technical sponsor. news 2005 INGEMAR Ingegneria Marittima

A new residential complex withmarina in the Venetian Lagoon

In May 2005 the Marina of Portegrandi, on the Venetian Lagoon and within thehistorical Archaeological and Nature Park of the Altinate Area, was inaugurated. The marina comprises two basins of 35.000sq metres, furnished with floating pontoonsand fingers and capable of taking up to 300boats of between 8-18 metres in length.Because of the modest work load (the baysare extremely well protected) the pontoonschosen were of the series FE/ST, of mediumdisplacement and 2.35 metres in width. Theelevated tidal variations meant anchoragesystems with fixed pilings to the sea floorand sliding devices for the pontoons in theinner basins; the stretch near the access canalis fixed to the docks by vertical iron girders.Ingemar's task included the supply andinstallation of pontoons and anchoragesystems as well as the final project to supplythe service installations. The land structures are currently being constructed and include covered and uncovered depots, a club house, restaurantand supermarket. A residential complexwith 90 apartments and a 4 star hotel with109 rooms is also being completed. The Marina is an innovative solution to re-launch a fascinating area within the Lagoonand close to the town of Quarto d'Altino, offering residential, receptive and productivefunctions for the boating and marine sector.

New pontoons and an "Olympic"floating slide

Nearly ten years after the first installations,Ingemar has reinforced its presence withfurther turn-key operations: five new floatingpiers, for an overall length of 240 metrescompleted by anchorages with piles, moorings with chains and ropes andelectricity, water and firefighting equipment.Receptive capacity of the marina willincrease by more than 80 new berths forboats of up to 25 metres. Because of thegreat size of the boats and the rigoroususage requirements, the pontoons are of theKing Size series, with widths of 3 metres andwith extremely robust, free-board, capacityand stability performances. Lastly, as is alreadywell known, the city of Pescara has beenchosen as the site for the 2009Mediterranean Games. In order to fulfil theservices for its members, as well as makingthe port structures more usable for thegames themselves, the Marina of Pescara hastherefore decided to augment its structureswith a new floating slipway similar to theone installed by Ingemar for the sailingcompetitions at the 2004 Athens OlymicGames.

1,700 metres of pontoons for thenew Novigrad Marina

The Istrian coastline is rich in culture andhistory as well as environmental resourcesand constitutes a natural destination forboth Italian and central European pleasurecraft. These development opportunititeshave attracted both private and publicinvestment and in just a few years havemeant the construction of new touristberths. Combined with the Dalmatian andItalian harbours this has created a uniqueand efficient network of ports in the upperAdriatic. The new marina "NauticaNovigrad", close to the centre of this livelytourist town, is destined to become animportant stronghold within the network:365 berths for boats of between 12 and 40metres in length and surrounded by anamazing historic and natural landscape. After a careful and attentive examination ofthe most important international companies,Marina Civitas Nova chose Ingemar as themost reliable operator to prepare theproject of the port's lay-out and services.Following this Ingemar was commissioned tosupply and install the floating structures andfinalise the project of all the essential services. This has been a complex task of greatproportions: the two bays are surroundedby floating docks from which extend a seriesof pontoons in a radial formation, withwidths of up to 3 metres, moored to thesea-bed with 3.300 metres of chains and1.800 tons of concrete for the deadweights. The marina has a surface area at sea of110.000 sq. metres; the services on landinclude a 5 star hotel with conferencecentre, covered swimming pool and all thenecessary facilities to satisfy therequirements of the most exclusive clients.

An élite landing-place for spectatorsof the Luis Vuitton Cup

For the occasion of Acts 8 and 9 of the LuisVuitton cup, the preparatory regattas for theAmericas Cup to be held in the waters offTrapani between the end of September andOctober, Sikamares asked Ingemar to preparea landing place for the most beautiful boatswhich follow the regatta. The enormous interest in watching the races live, combinedwith the feverish activity in the port ofTrapani, made the organisers, Sikamares, lookfor a quieter and more private arrangementfor their exclusive clientèle in the nearby portof Marsala just a few miles away. In record timeIngemar supplied 250 metres of pontoonsfor approximately 70 large yachts up to 30metres in length. The elements, of the seriesFE/ST with reinforced structures and a greaterreserve thrust than normal, are completedwith Eromar services bollards in stainless steel.

A modern marina for Nautica Casarola

The pleasure craft tourist industry is also inexpansion on the Italian lakes and NauticaCasarola, the well known operator in themotor boat sector and currently a dealer andagent for the most exclusive yacht builders, hastaken the step of meeting the demands fornew moorings in order to satisfy both old andnew clients. At the new tourist port of Pacengodi Lazise, which is well protected by a fixedbreakwater, there is space for about 200 boatsup to 20 mts in length. On shore a structure of10,000 sq metres, 4,000 of which are covered,is destined as a depot and for mechanicalservicing. Ingemar was invited to supply thefloating pontoons for an overall length of 200metres of the FE/ST type. This, of course, wasvery satisfactory for Ingemar to know that suchhighly qualified investors entrusted the companyto participate in such a prestigious project.

Floating breakwaters for SLYS of theFerretti GroupThe Feretti Group have established at La Speziaa new marine centre of particular strategicand industrial importance: SLYS (Spezia LuxuryYacht Service), a boat-building centre for theRiva brand for boats up to 21 metres, as well asa significant reference point on the Tyrrheniansea for all the Ferretti Group boats. Waveconditions in the bay meant that a protectivestructure had to be built for the basin wherethe boats are moored during the final finishingprocess: Ingemar's floating breakwaters werethe solution to the problem. The Gulf of LaSpezia is ideal for these floating breakwaters: it is protected from high seas by offshore seawalls but is subject to short and steep wavesgenerated by the strong north and southwinds. Ingemar's module system, meaningthat progressive and successive changes maybe made, combined with an exceptionallymodest environmental impact, was the idealsolution instead of a traditional fixed alternative.Elements of the F/CA type, in reinforcedconcrete with a core of expanded polystyrene, were used with dimensions of 20x4x2 metresand 65 tons displacement: they are equippedfor mooring large yachts up to 30 metres long.Anchorage is by a system of chains whichensures that all the action caused by windsand rough seas is transmitted to thedeadweights on the sea floor.

Marina Kastela: a port in the lowerAdriatic

The new Marina Kastela, with its 350 berths, represents one of the most importantstructures for pleasure craft in the south of Croatia, situated between the famousarchipelago of the Incoronate Islands andthe green islands bordering Montenegro. Not far away is the city of Split, rich inhistory and architecture as well as vitality;tourism constitutes another attraction forthe new marina where, only a few monthsafter its inauguration, all available berthswere practically full. It is a newly built touristport in the bay of Kastela, well protected bytraditional defensive structures and fullyequipped with all service facilities. For Ingemar it represents both prestige andimmense satisfaction from a technical pointof view: the 700 metres of floating pontoonsinstalled in the port overcame a rigoroustest in August of this year during a stormwhen the Bora blew gusts of wind up to 80 knots over many hours.

A floating pier for mega yachts atthe Genoa Boat Show

A huge success for Ingemar was winning the international competition to supply themooring structures for large yachts at the45th Genoa Boat Show and becoming thetechnical sponsor for the exhibition. The experience acquired in building similarstructures was the determining factor andmeant a fast and precise solution to thevarious technical and installation problemsposed by the complexity and the site withinthe port which is not yet completelysheltered. After only three months from confirmationof the order, the new "Floating Jetty for LargeYachts" was installed in the new marina atthe Genoa Fair. Built to receive the mostbeautiful boats at the show, of between 30and 40 metres, the jetty is 170 metres longand 6 metres wide. For greater practicality it was built using two modular elements sideby side which, once they are uncoupled, will constitute the future floating pontoonsof the marina. The load-bearing structure, in galvanisedsteel, is made to measure because of theparticular projected loads as well as satisfyingthe necessities for the final layout. The achievement is truly noteworthy: very high displacement (250.000 kgs),freeboard (85 cms), width (6 mts) for easeof passage and an overall capacity of up to 5.000 people.

A new mooring structure forpassenger ferries

The company which promotes tourism forcruise ships at the Port of Venice, VeneziaTerminal Passeggeri, was extremely impressedby the performance of the floating jettyinstalled in 2004 using the floating modulesof the Bridge of the Redeemer. Havingcompleted the experimental phase, thecompany confirmed its faith in Ingemar with a commission to build a new clearingstructure for tourists going to the city orthe Lagoon. The new floating complex isbigger and well laid out, able to accept agreater number of boats with larger dimensions than the previous moorings onthe temporary pier. In order to ensure thegreatest level of efficiency and comfort thenew piers have been designed ad hoc andare 4.63 metres wide, with a greater levelof displacement thanks to the floating elements in reinforced concrete.

The island of Venus is created in thelake at EUR

The new floating platform on the westshore of the lake at EUR has been calledCythera - the mythological name of Venus'island. It is part of a series of installationsaimed at renewing one of the city's mostimportant and beautiful spaces. The floating structure (60 mts long x 12 mtswide) will make it possible to walk roundthe entire lake perimeter which up to nowwas impossible. With 600 sq mts of surfacearea for holding exhibitions or cafés withumbrellas and deck chairs, Cythera is also adecorative element within the park as theflooring is in wood with back-lit glass insertsand floating pools for 9 different species ofwater-lily. It has been a great pleasure forIngemar to work with the designer, Prof.Franco Zagari, for the finalisation of theproject regarding floating structures and ofimmense satisfaction to be commissionedby EUR S.p.A. for the turn-key operation. A perfect working harmony with the DelfiniGroup, who supplied all the furnishings, andmuch enthusiasm on the part of everyoneinvolved led to completion in a very briefspace of time. In less than two months afterfinalisation of the design the structure wasready for end-of-summer events.Pre-fabricated modules were used which, once in the water, were rigidly jointed tocomplete three platforms connected toeach other with two floating bridges. Theplatforms, with an overall capacity of 1.850people, are positioned in sequence betweenthe extreme west shore of the lake, wherethey are restrained by fixed decking to theshore and semi-elastic devices. This has avoidedthe necessity of anchorages to the lake floorensuring ease of removal of the structuresin the event of future works on the basin.

Floating breakwaters to protect theSporting Club

The Sporting Club at Chioggia was formedin 1991 by a group of local businessmenwho saw in its creation a new opportunityfor investment and diversification within thereal estate sector. Over the years the innerbasin has been formed, an old "squero"(shipyard) has been transformed into amodern club house and a new marina facingonto the Lagoon has been created. The Sporting Club today can take 400 boatsof up to 18 metres length and is animportant destination for nautical tourism, particularly sail boats, in the upper Adriatic. The pontoons, varying from 1.8 to 3 metreswide, are anchored by fixed pilings andsliding devices. The mooring systems arevaried: warning poles (particular to theVenetian Lagoon), fingers and mini fingersaccording to boat size. This year a new pierof floating breakwaters has been installed, ofthe F/CA type 108 metres long in modulesof 12x3 metres and 28 tonnes ofdisplacement, substituting the old woodenfixed protection. This has solved theproblems caused by waves rebounding offthe docks and from passing vessels. For Ingemar this has been further confirmationof the effectiveness of floating breakwatersin solving the specific problems in theVenetian Lagoon, characterised by agitatedseas with high waves for a brief periodcaused by the local Bora wind. The modestheight of the breakwaters over the watersurface, constant at all tide levels, and minimalinterference with the sea bed and the currentsare all characteristics which are particularlyappreciated in the Lagoon which is subjectto the severest environmental restrictions.

Floating dock for mega-yachts for/bythe Port AuthoritiesIn the last few years the city of Cagliari hascarried out important works to enhance itsartistic and cultural resources to better effectand has attracted more marine tourism. ThePort Authority, has begun an important planto re-convert certain areas in favour ofattracting more pleasure craft. They engagedIngemar to build a large floating pier alongthe seafront in the heart of the city. The taskwill be a turn-key operation and is destinedto attract both shows and exhibitions as wellas yachts up to 40 metres in length whichfrequently choose southern Sardinia as asummer cruise destination. The intense effortsof the project - involving large boats andchoppy seas - have meant that the structuresmust be generously proportioned and takeinto account restrictions on land as well asproviding the correct anchorage systems. The floating jetties of the King Size type and3 metres in width, have been completed withbollards for essential services, access gangwaysof 12 metres in length, parapets on the shoreside and steel bollards with a drag of up to 30 t.

Floating jetties ad hoc for theRanieri shipyard

Since 1951 the Ranieri shipyards have beenthe main reference point for mechanicalassistance to large ships. Whilst extendingand diversifying their activities the companyalso decided to direct their attention to the pleasure craft industry which isexpanding along the coasts of Puglia. The company entrusted Ingemar to enlarge

the receptive capacity of the shipyard bybuilding a series of floating jetties more than4 metres wide and 20 metres long. Taking into account severe wave conditionsin the port they were also designed to beintegrated with a series of fixed structures, which constitutes the strong point of the installation. The jetties, each with a displacement of 19.000 kgs, are equipped with Eromar service bollards in steel and furnished withgalvanised steel bollards for mooring boatsup to 25 metres long.
