Message from Mike As you begin to plan your activities at Innisbrook for the upcoming year, be sure to consider the following…

Sharpen your golf game with instruction at our Innisbrook Golf Academy. Our talented Director of Instruction, Dawn Mercer awaits your visit to help improve any facet of your game. Bobby Barnes and the rest of our Golf Professional staff are available for group clinic instruction or private lessons on a daily basis.

If Tennis is your game, Joe Mattingly and his team of Tennis Professionals offer a full slate of private lessons and clinics that will sharpen your skills. The Tennis calendar is much more active this year offering added events, socials and Tournaments. Member engagement is the best it’s been in a long time!

To keep those New Year’s Resolutions (at least through January) start the year off with a trip to the Fitness Center and take a lesson or clinic with Lynn Colombo. Lynn offers a variety of classes to help get you in shape and feel healthier.

To relieve the stress of the holiday season and relax those tired muscles visit Heather Cancetty and her skilled providers at Salamander Spa. The spa offers a full array of services and treatments that provide soothing relief from stress or your favorite sporting activity.

Membership is growing and so are our younger families. Teri Michalski, Director of Recreation is working on fun events for the families to participate in at Loch Ness pool as well as programming for the camps.

Our goal for 2018 is to continue to develop activities that provide something for everyone and enhance the Member experience. This will be a memorable 2018!.

Mike Williams Managing Director

From the Desk of the Director of Golf:Valued Members, Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a great Holiday Season and were able to spend it with Family and Friends. 2017 saw many great enhancements here at Innisbrook. The newly restored Copperhead Course continues to mature and is arguably one of the best courses on the PGA Tour. The North Greens were redone and planted with Tiff Eagle Bermuda; the same putting surfaces as the Copperhead and Island. Thanks to the great support from our Members, we’ve been able to bring back Holiday Tournaments and our IMGA & IWGA Events are enjoying their largest participation numbers in years. Member Events are not only selling out but in record time…..as evident with the McAdams Cup that sold out in less than 24 hours!

As we look ahead to 2018, there are many things to be excited about. The Valspar Championship in March already has their first big name of the year committed to play, Mr. Rory Mcilroy! Plans are being finalized to redo the South Greens similar to what we did on the North Greens this past summer. This project will begin in May and we will then have Tiff Eagle Bermuda on the Greens at all four courses!

As a reminder the Copperhead Course will change to a Cart Paths Only restriction on Tuesday, January 9, 2018. In preparation for the PGA Tour Event, this cart restriction will continue until after the Valspar Championship. 2018 dates for the Valspar Championship are March 8-11. As many of you already know, the PGA Tour Schedule will be changing slightly in 2019. Most notably the Players Championship is moving to March and the PGA Championship will be played in the month of May. This will most likely move the Valspar Championship up one or two weeks to either the 2nd or 3rd weekend in March…..but no official announcements at this time. Time will tell if these changes will positively or negatively affect the Field but one thing is for certain, 2018’s Valspar Championship is already looking to be their best Field yet!

Hope to see you at the Valspar Championship and I look forward to seeing you around the Club.

By Director of Golf Instruction, Dawn Mercer

Do you have a golf goal for 2018? • Lower your handicap •Chip with success

• Enjoy the entire round • Drive the ball longer

No matter what you desire, the question is the approach to obtain your goal. Everyone thinks you just need more practice time but time is what we don’t have or it’s just repetition of bad habits.

Look at your overall game and select an area to improve then schedule a lesson or attend a golf clinic for techniques to reach your goal. The best reality snapshot of your game is through an on course playing lesson which reveals your ability to manage your game on uneven lies, proper club selection, course strategy, shot style selection, attitude and much more. I wish all of you the best golfing year ever. Happy New Year!

If you have any questions or would like to schedule a lesson contact me at [email protected].

Tennis at InnisbrookServing up Tennis By Director of Tennis Joe Mattingly

Tip of the MonthDear Member,

My hope for the New Year is that all members resolve to invite a friend, a family member, a neighbor or work associate to try tennis in 2018 because of all the wonderful benefits playing the sport brings to everyone in the game. The following information explains what I mean.

Here are the facts:• People who participate in tennis 3 hours per week (at moderately vigorous intensity) cut their risk

of death in half from any cause, according to physician Ralph Paffenbarger who studied over 10,000 people over a period of 20 years.

• Competitive tennis burns more calories than aerobics, inline skating, or cycling, according to studies on caloric expenditures.

• Tennis players scored higher in vigor, optimism and self-esteem while scoring lower in depression, anger, confusion, anxiety and tension than other athletes and non-athletes, according to Dr. Joan Finn and colleagues at Southern Connecticut State University.

• Since tennis requires alertness and tactical thinking, it may generate new connections between nerves in the brain and thus promote a lifetime of continuing development of the brain, reported scientists at the University of Illinois.

Is it any wonder that scientists and physicians around the world view tennis as the most healthful activity in which you can participate?

There may be other sports that can provide excellent health benefits and some which can provide mental and emotional growth. But no sport other than tennis has ever been acclaimed from all disciplines as one that develops great benefits physically, mentally and emotionally.
