BRONSWERK military installations must maintain designated levels of temperature, air change rate, humidity, fresh air quality and pressure – often in challenging, remote locations. They are shock-resistant, compact, quiet and low-vibration. All equipment has been engineered to withstand pitch and roll. Our products are designed for onboard space optimization, and are lightweight with low amperage draw. Your HVAC-R products undergo extensive testing at our factory before being shipped to you for installation. Prior to vessel deployment, we perform complete harbor and sea acceptance tests to ensure the system meets the highest quality stan-dards. Our military installations have been subjected to controlled explosives detona-tion near the vessel to certify shock resistance to military standard. All systems offer extremely high reliability.

BRONSWERK relies on the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) ® method and its project roadmap to meet your highest expectations and to deliver your solutions on time and on budget. This approach, created by the Project Man-agement Institute (PMI), is consistent with our ISO 9000 certification of manage-ment standards.

The b R o n s W e R K p R o j e c T R o A d M A p consists of five principal stages:

1. Project Kick-OffIn this phase we plan your project and lay the foundations for successful implementation. We make and share the strategic decisions that are crucial to your project:• Define your system goals and objectives• Clarify the scope of the system• Define your project schedule, budget plan, and execution

sequence• Establish the project organization, including representa-

tives from your organization

2. System Preliminary DesignIn this phase we deliver the Single Line Diagrams and sup-porting Heat Load Calculations to ensure that the design will meet your specified needs. If vessel modifications are made during this stage, we modify the HVAC-R design accordingly.

3. System Detailed ExecutionWith your agreement on the preliminary design, in this phase the team prepares all the supporting detailed engineering work:• Equipment Diagrams • Special Equipment Designs• Complete Equipment Lists• Hot Water/Chilled Water Diagrams• Detailed calculations to ensure that the system conforms to

acceptable levels of pressure drops, noise, and vibration• 3D drawings available

During this phase we also deliver the actual equipment and ducting that make up your system and, if desired, we install the HVAC-R system or oversee the installation. We also manu-facture any equipment that is required to meet your needs and conduct Factory Acceptance Tests in our premises to certify that the equipment meets the highest standards.

4. System Final PreparationIt’s at this point that we deliver training, as well as conduct the required testing and commissioning. It is critical to train maintenance personnel to protect your investment. We offer instruction at our training facilities on both system and special equipment for operators, crew and shore maintenance personnel.Testing and Commissioning is complete and rigorous. It includes both Harbor and Sea Acceptance Tests.

5. Ship Launch & SupportIn this phase BRONSWERK supports you to ensure that your HVAC-R system is operating efficiently. Our warran-tees mean that you are well protected. We offer outstanding after-sales support on every continent through our global support network.

We ensure that we meet your specified needs.

For military vessels BRONSWERK engineers primarily air-and-water, electric re-heating HVAC-R systems, where air and water (cooled or heated in a central plant room) is distributed to room terminals. The supply air usually has a constant volume, which is determined by ventilation requirements, required cooling and maximum cooling capacity following changeover to the winter. The local cooling is determined by the space require-ments and delivered through Fan Coil Units located in the space.

The system advantages include: high air quality; indi-vidual room temperature control; separate sources of heating and cooling for each space; and, that dehumidi-fication and filtration are performed in a central plant room remote from conditioned spaces.

Our NBC Units are designed to provide filtration in an airtight enclosure, in which military personnel can be sheltered from threats such as nuclear, biological and chemical agents. These protected “citadel” areas are provided with filtered and decontaminated outside air, with overpressure maintained using airlocks and special blast-valves. These blast-valves have been thoroughly shock tested.

The NBC units boast low magnetic signature, and allow for easy and safe removal of contaminated filters. The integrated electric heater warms the air to avoid ice build up and maintains the relative humidity within the range of the anti-aerosol/carbon filters.

Our NBC filtration systems have an integrated device to accurately monitor and test filter integrity. This revo-lutionary device has very sensitive yet robust artificial intelligence. It provides integrity alarm signals to verify the condition of the highly important gas-warfare filtra-tion system. Its compact size allows it to be housed within NBC units, either in new installations or retrofitted into existing units. The advantages are increased security (filters are automatically and continuously monitored for leakage and saturation); cost savings (filters can now be used an unprecedented 2 years); service benefits (no mission interruption due to need for filter maintenance at base); and greater efficiency (interfaces with SMS for filter status indication, and rapid change from normal ship mode to gas alarm mode).

BRONSWERK has revolutionized marine chiller standards with its oil-free chillers. These meet the highest Navy standards for shock, vibration, noise and EMI. They are cost-effective, reliable, efficient and environmentally friendly (they use a low-pressure refrigerant). Systems are designed to operate under extreme ship movement and in very hot and salt-laden atmospheres.

The chillers use High-Speed Centrifugal Compressors, resulting in a remarkably simple design: no oil circuit, no gearbox and no mechanical bearings (the compressor uses industrially proven magnetic bearings). Oil-related maintenance problems are eliminated. Control panels and electrical devices, unit frame and pipe supports, as well as heat exchangers – all meet rigorous shock requirements. The electrical power filter-rectifiers meet EMC and har-monic requirements. Servicing is made easier due to elec-tronic diagnostics of compressor and system parameters.

Fan Coil Units (FCU) manufactured by BRONSWERK provide high-capacity local cooling and heating (electric or hot water). These are high-performance, compact and lightweight units which come completely pre-packaged. We offer both deck-mounted and ceiling-mounted units, with either left- or right-hand connections. Low noise levels allow the unit to be hard mounted to the ship’s structure. They are shock tested to MIL-S-901D stan-dards, and thoroughly factory tested on performance according to ARI 440-98, ASHRAE 79-91 or MIL-A-23798 C standards.

All of BRONSWERK’s over pressure controller tech-nology is accurate and reliable, with no disturbance of performance resulting from ship movement. Resistant to shock and vibration, they also offer easy accessibility for inspection and maintenance. • Spring Loaded Controllers (SL) are economical, and

can maintain a differential pressure between 100 and 1000 Pa. (the desired value is factory-set). Provided there is insufficient overpressure, the outlet opening is completely shut off by the damper. This position can be blocked manually.

• Pneumatically Controlled Controllers (PC) can serve both as an overpressure or airf low regulator by incor-porating a pneumatic control which measures the differential pressure. When the regulator is used for air-f low control, air pressure measuring points can be chosen before and after an internal orifice. The damper will move to its full open position if air pressure of the PC system drops below the required minimum. When a counter pressure (outside explosion) occurs, the outlet opening will close immediately.

Bronswerk technology in marine condensing units allow for a compact, quiet operation. The dual condensing unit consists of two multi-cylinder, direct-driven recipro-cating compressors complete with two shell and tube sea water condensers, receivers, refrigerant control panel, and necessary safety controls, pressure gauges and valves. The entire cooling load can be handled by one condensing unit, leaving the other as 100% standby. The units are designed for use with R134a refrigerant. Our designs ensure both easy installation and minimum space requirements.
