• WP1.1.1.: JTI-CS2-2017-CFP06-LPA-1-13 (RIA activity)

• Title: Modelling of installed jet noise for UHBR engine integration with forward flight effects

Illustration of integrated propulsion system exhaust generating jet noise and jet-wing interaction noise.

• Objective: Build and validate a physics-based model of installed subsonic jet noise with forward flight effects for UHBR engine integration. The model shall have a short return time of the order of a few days. The effect of flight and the three-dimensional distortion of the jet flow under wing should be investigated and accounted for. Three work packages are envisaged:

– Eduction and modeling of « isolated » jet mixing noise sources (engine exhaust).

– Eduction and modeling of « installation noise » sources (engine exhaust + pylon + wing).

– Integration of isolated and installation noise components, and validation against experiments.

• Volume: 500k€ funding

• Targeted applicant: Partner with high skills in aeroacoustics of turbulent jets, flow and acoustic signal post-processing. Strong academic and research background shall be demonstrated.

• Required skills: – Capability to perform aeroacoustic analytical and semi-empirical modeling. – Knowledge of turbulent flows. – Capability to post-process aeroacoustic experimental data and extract noise source

characteristics. • Capabilities: Advanced experimental jet noise lab, with capability to capture the turbulence

dynamics in a turbulent jet for the frequency range of interest (for instance, time-resolved PIV) in a well-controlled aero-acoustic environment.

• Topic manager: Airbus • Intermediate and final versions of the model shall be made available to the topic manager during

the duration of CS2 LPA project, as model shall be used to predict installed jet noise of UHBR demonstrators.

• Title: Test Cell Control System for NPE Demonstrator

• Topic Manager: Safran Power Units

• Objective: The purpose is to develop an innovative test cell control system coupling real time models for main engines and hardware (Auxiliary Power Units, Starter generator, Generator, etc.). The objective is to demonstrate the ability of a new optimised Non Propulsive Energy (NPE) system to meet aircraft needs depending on Main Engine status and operating point. • Title: Multi-physics modelling of elementary physical phenomena applied to an innovative high temperature engine valve

• Objective: The design of valve, especially in engine environment (high temperature, high pressure, vibrations), requires high fidelity physical models to ensure performances and reduce risks of integration. The project proposal covers advances on multi-physics modelling of valve taking into account high temperature environment and high pressure flow: effects on mechanical frictions, aerodynamic torque, mechanics behaviour of dynamic seal for example. The physical models will be validated using test rigs results.

• Objective: This task will cover the development of an extended CFD approach for the simulation of jets with a two phase agent. The sudden evaporation the liquid parts of a 2 phase agent has a significant influence of the total jet behaviour. In order to create generic zonal jet models the behaviour of such complex shall be simulated, parametrized and validated.

• Contribution for the validation concept on small and large demonstrator scales is required.

• Goal: Extend the aircraft automatic landing capability by developing a computer vision function:

– Algorithms for runway acquisition & tracking (Concept proven in Airbus simulation) – Computer vision platform to host multiple image based functions (time & safety critical)

• Target: Disruptive Cockpit concept TRL5 in 2021, and then flying prototype

• The Applicant should be able to offer: 1- Image based landing Algorithm - runway acquisition & tracking, inputs AP aircraft guidance for Autoland - ILS « lookalike » operations.

- On non-equipped airfields

- CATIII like performances in CATI visibility conditions.

Scope of work The topic addresses three main streams T-1 Visual Recognition and Automatic Command for Takeoff, Approach and Airport Navigation. Visual recognition and automatic command system through visible and infra-red light spectrum EVS (EO/IR device) to provide redundancy to execute the take-off, final approach and airport navigation operations to supplement the guidance provided by the standard approach and airport navigation systems

T-2 Automatic Avoidance Maneuvers Automatic aircraft response to the Terrain Awareness and Warning System (TAWS) and Weather Radar (WXR) warnings to avoid collision with other aircrafts, with the terrain or to enter into dangerous weather threats respectively or in combination of them. The system will have to host the appropriate HW/SW to acquire the avionics parameter from the above systems, and the processing algorithms needed to determine the right command to perform the appropriate aircraft maneuvers to avoid collisions.
