FunFact! The word 'March' comes fromthe Roman 'Martius'. This was originally the firstmonth of the Roman calendar and was named afterMars, the god of war. We changed to the 'New
Style' or 'Gregorian calendar in 1752, and it is onlysince then when we the year began on 1st January. The Anglo-Saxons called the month Hlyd monathwhich means Stormy month, or Hraed monathwhich means Rugged month.

10 Perks of Living on-Campus as an Upperclassman
1. Proximity
Living on campus gives you easy access to
everything you'll need. Remember, chances are
that your academic responsibilities & commit-
ments are ramping up as you get closer to
graduation. The convenience of being close to
everything you'll need to get your work donecan be invaluable
Unless your college is in a seriously remote area, at one point or another you may have considered(or are considering) the possibility of moving o -campus for your upperclassman years. Though
there are some benets to living o campus, on-
campus life still has appeal for those who are sea-soned college students. Here are my top 10 picks for why...
2. SimplicityLiving on campus means that you don't have to worry about
buying furniture and other things that you'll need if you move
off
3. Cost
This isn't the case everywhere, but in many places, living on
campus can be a lot cheaper than living o. Do the math and
nd out if the cost of living on campus - including ulies like
Internet - will be lower.
7. CommunityIf living alone makes
you feel isolated, and
even a house with afew roommates makes
you feel lonely, living
on-campus can help
give you a
sense of
community.
Some schools incentivize on-
campus living by setting aside
the best rooms and apart-
ments for upperclassmen.
You could end up in a pretty
sweet space that you would-
n't be available other-
4. Fewer Chores
If you're not into the idea of cleaning a bath-
room or kitchen, mowing the lawn or sweeping
the living room, living on campus can give you a
reprieve from these types of responsibilies.
Plus, Housing maintenance teams areoen quicker and kinder than a land- 6. Sweet Digs
Depending on where your school is lo-
cated, it might be quite dicult to ndconvenient, safe, aordable housing
that isn't owned by the college.
5. Availability
8. Meal Plan
Don't like cooking? Can't spend a
lot of time shopping for and pre-
paring your meals? Having a meal
plan to go along with your on-
campus housing only adds to the
convenience.
9. Convenience
College housing offices usually run smooth-
ly, and set things up for students so they don't
have to worry about much while living on
campus. You wont need to stay on top of
bills and rent every month, and you only
need to move in the essentials.
10. LazinessLife on campus is one of the last
opportunities you may have to li
in a setting with few commitmen
& responsibilities. Where will yo
ever again live where you don't
have to worry in some way or an
other about maintenance, cleanin
cooking or buying furniture?

8 Top Tools to Help Beat Web ProcrastinationBorrowed from: www.simplyzesty.com/technology/8-top-tools-to-help-beat-web-procrastination/#
Write or die
For those who need encouragement to write up that docu-ment or essay, write or die is just the thing for you. Pick a
time limit, a word count aim and your grace period (thetime limit before your punishment is activated) and startworking. How gentle or evil your punishment is dependson what mode you pick. Gentle mode will give you a popup box reminding you to continue writing, Normal modewill play unpleasant sounds such as a baby crying, a poor-ly played violin and the Hansons song Mmm Bop but ifyoure feeling masochistic, you can set it up for Kamikazemode where it will begin to delete your work if youre notworking fast enough.
Freedom
Ever feel that youd actually get some work done if you justdidnt have the distraction of the internet and its numerous
hilarious videos featuring cats playing various musical in-struments. If so, consider installing freedom which allowsyou to locks you away from the internet for a time periodranging from 45 minutes to eight hours. Once your time isset, the only way you can deactivate it is either wait untilthe timer ends and actually do some work until then orreboot your computer which the makers hope youll feelisnt worth the hassle. The program costs $10 but you candownload a free trial just to see what life would be like ifyou didnt checking your twitter feed every two minutes.Mac users you can use Selfcontrol.
StopDistractions
Feel you spend far too much time browsing and surfing onFacebook and Youtube but still need the internet to doactual research. StopDistractions allows you to block orlimit access to certain websites for a specific period of timewhile allowing you to work on other sites. Therefore youcould block sites such as Twitter and Facebook but stillallow yourself to work on WordPress.
W r i t e R o o m & D a r k R o o m
Do you work on MS Word but keep checking your browserand breaking your train of thought. WriteRoom and Dark-room takes up the entire screen allowing you to focus solelyon what you have to write and nothing else.
LeechBlock
Working the same way as StopDistractions, LeechBlock isa plugin for Firefox which allows you to block you fromaccessing websites either for a set period of time, during aset time frame (9am to 5pm on weekdays) or a combina-tion of both. To stop you from deactivating the program ifyou get annoyed, you can set a password or random ac-cess code to make it more difficult to reset it.
Instant Boss
If you have the willpower to not check the internet every sec-ond you get but work better with bursts of concentration, thanyou can install Instant Boss which helps program work periodsand break periods throughout your day. You have the choiceof setting the amount of time you want to work for, the time foryour break period and how many times you want these ses-sions to repeat. Through popups, youll be notified as to whenyou can take a break or get back to work which you can heedor extend your time doing either activity that little bit more.
MeeTimer
MeeTimer is different from the other programs listed aboveas instead of blocking sites, it monitors the amount of timeyou spend on sites when on the internet. After compilingthe info gathered, it gives you statistics about your surfinghabits including the percentage of time you could havespent working to guilt you into lessening your procrastinat-ing habits and to use your time better.
Temptation Blocker
Going one step further than the other blocking tools, Temp-tation Blocker blocks you from specific programs and appli-cations instead of sites for a specific amount of time. Theonly way you can deactivate it is to enter a 32 characterstring which is designed to discourage you from deactivat-ing it. Other than that you can be sporting and be produc-tive until the timer counts down to 0, its your call.
