The actual village we traveled to is called Mumvumbi. The pastor of the church in the village, his name is Paulino, has developed his own owner- ship in ABC Thinking. I first met Pastor Pau- lino in November 2012 when Leonard wanted me to meet him as he was in town preaching. Leonard had met him months before and began coaching him on ABC thinking styles. Pastor Paulino, at this time, had been preaching the gospel for about 15 years. He had been schooled in the gospel by missionaries and had attended several missionary bible schools. This man is versed in scripture. He knows his bible. On that Sunday in November 2012, Leonard, I and an intern from America walked into the church where the pastor was to preach. He asked me to teach and preach. He would not take ‘no’ for an answer. So Leonard and I got up. Our message went something like this: Reading from Gen 1:26 we shared that God made his human creation in HIS own image. This was done so that this creation could be in control of their envi- ronment which God created. Leonard and I pointed out that the only different between people is skin color and that all people no matter their color were created by God in His image. They had never heard this truth before. “Astonishment” is an understate- ment of their grasp of what Leonard and I presented that day. The following are the shared responses of the Pastor and congregation, of which I have spent a year getting my head around. 1. They were under the conclusion that God was White and physically walking on this earth somewhere because the white man brought him to them and shared the gos- pel of God. All the material they had seen depicted him as white and alive. 2. They had to get to God through the white man. Because the white man laid claim to HIS savior and was sharing Him i.e. the good news. 3. The white man has all the answers to all of life’s problems. White men show up and judge living conditions and culture based on their own cultural relevance. The white man is smart; the black man is dumb. (Hundreds of years of suppression have developed this thinking pattern. I will tell you now an average African national has genius level capabilities.) Insight News

As I write this letter, I am on my countdown here in Mozam-

bique. I fly from here on the 1st of September to Hong Kong

(more on that later). It’s been a wild ride here in Moz this trip.

Thanks to our partners, we were able to purchase a truck which

has already enhanced our accomplishments for Christ in Mo-

zambique. It came in time for us to have transportation for our

visitors from America. You know, Dave and Jeff, they wrote

our last newsletter. I hear they have taken ABC Thinking exer-

cises back to the states with them and are using in some of the

bible study classes there.

As they (Dave and Jeff) mention in the last news letter, they

went to an area about 50k south of Chimoio in the bush called Macate. There are

many villages in this area. The actual village we traveled to is called Mumvumbi. The

pastor of the church in the village, his name is Paulino, has developed his own owner-

ship in ABC Thinking. I first met Pastor Pau-

lino in November 2012 when Leonard wanted

me to meet him as he was in town preaching.

Leonard had met him months before and began

coaching him on ABC thinking styles. Pastor

Paulino, at this time, had been preaching the

gospel for about 15 years. He had been

schooled in the gospel by missionaries and had

attended several missionary bible schools. This

man is versed in scripture. He knows his bible.

On that Sunday in November 2012, Leonard, I

and an intern from America walked into the

church where the pastor was to preach. He asked me to teach and preach. He would

not take ‘no’ for an answer. So Leonard and I got up. Our message went something

like this: Reading from Gen 1:26 we shared that God made his human creation in

HIS own image. This was done so that this creation could be in control of their envi-

ronment which God created. Leonard and I pointed out that the only different between

people is skin color and that all people no matter their color were created by God in

His image. They had never heard this truth before. “Astonishment” is an understate-

ment of their grasp of what Leonard and I presented that day. The following are the

shared responses of the Pastor and congregation, of which I have spent a year getting

my head around.

1. They were under the conclusion that God was White and physically walking on

this earth somewhere because the white man brought him to them and shared the gos-

pel of God. All the material they had seen depicted him as white and alive.

2. They had to get to God through the white man. Because the white man laid claim

to HIS savior and was sharing Him i.e. the good news.

3. The white man has all the answers to all of life’s problems. White men show up

and judge living conditions and culture based on their own cultural relevance. The

white man is smart; the black man is dumb. (Hundreds of years of suppression have

developed this thinking pattern. I will tell you now an average African national has

Moz Report cont.

This list went on and on for over an hour. The point I am trying to make is not that the

missionary is the bad guy. I am saying though that they (the missionaries) had no idea of

the type of ideas (concepts) that had been developed through the information they shared

and the way they shared it with the Mozambique nationals. From that day Pastor Paulino

scheduled time with Leonard to be taught about ABC Thinking so he could start making

sense out of the knowledge he had acquired over his years of life.

So here we are about 1.5 years later. What has happened? About 7 weeks ago now, David

Center and Jeff Gill came from the USA to visit IRI to share in what we do. You got their

update in our last news letter. As you know, we went to Pastor Pauline’s village and

coached more on ABC Thinking, taking things to the next level. Since then the Pastor, his

family and his village of Mumvumbi have transformed their thinking styles from memori-

zations and blind acceptance to conceptual analysis and abstract processing that generates

concepts based on existing comprehension. (Romans 12:2) This has given them an edge

on developmental problem solving. Here are some realizations they have developed.

1. They realized they are not poor. They live simple.

2. They are realizing that they were sitting around waiting on people to give them hand-

outs when they could be producing.

3. They realized they could access their resources.

4. They realized they could create new recourses.

5. The Pastor made this statement. “I now now

who God and Jesus are because I now know who I

am”

6. New building projects

a. Bigger church: they have out grown the one they

have in just a few weeks

b. Warehouse for food storage

c. Office for ABC Thinking development. (their idea

not IRI’s)

d. New houses for the elderly

7. They have placed 130 orphans in homes in the community to keep them within their

culture.

8. They are teaching other villages about ABC Thinking.

This list can go on and on, but the last statement, “They are teaching other villages” is dy-

namic. They own this program and have extrapolated out of given material to rebuild their

damaged culture and in doing so are able for the first time to have a relationship with Je-

sus Christ (this is a concept). The Pastor was here at the office yesterday and said they are

teaching in 30 different villages in the Macate area on ABC Thinking styles. Keep in mind

our relationship with Jesus Christ is a concept. These villages all have a “church” but peo-

ple were told to attend so to them, church was a function. Now that they have the concept

of a relationship with Christ in their life, attending HIS Church means everything. Guess

what? God has HIS Churches expanding in 30 villages now, and they are doing it out of a

new found cognitive conceptual relationship with Christ for the first time. May God have

all the Glory of HIS fruits.

Well, come Monday Sept 1, 2014 I fly out of Mozambique and travel to Hong Kong. I

will be working with Linda Smyth with Cross Cultural Missions as we did last year. This

will be an ongoing work for IRI. We are proud to work with such an extraordinary mis-

sionary as Linda. We will be going through the work I have been doing in Moz as she and

I are preparing to head for the Philippines in October for several weeks of ABC coaching.

Stay tuned as I will report to you the progress of our work there.

Thank you for your support and prayers.

I pray for all of you as I travel, knowing your heart is in honoring our Lord.

Al P.S. Please feel free to comment on the letter. We will be

honored to respond.

Greetings in Christ!

I want to thank everyone for their great support of IRI this summer. As the

season moves on into Fall, Al and I are heading to Hong Kong. Al has finished with

his tour in Mozambique for the summer. You can read more about the great work he

has been seeing among the Mozambicans in his part of the newsletter. For my part, I

want to talk a little bit about the plans we have for Hong Kong and the Philippines.

While Al is in Hong Kong, he will be meeting with Kitty Ho, our board

member, and working with Linda Smyth to prepare for a trip to the Philippines. After

Ken Smyth's death last year, Al and I were invited back to the Philippines to continue

to do development work with some of Ken's associates there. Al will be visiting

these partners later this Fall. Unfortunately, we do not have the funding for me to go

with him, but I will be doing my own work in Hong Kong next month. In October

and November, I will be working with Kitty presenting training programs for school

teachers in the Hong Kong area, as well as doing some bible study and discipleship

training with some of the local churches. I have also been asked to speak at an educa-

tor's convention while I am there. The work Al and I have been given is exciting for

both of us, and we look forward to seeing what God has in store for us in the future.

To facilitate the growing work we are doing in the area, IRI is also planning

to open a new office in Hong Kong, which will be managed by Kitty. We are just

beginning to navigate through the forms and procedures necessary, so we expect this

will take several months. When the office is ready, however, it

will give us a greater opportunity to reach schools and other organizations in Hong

Kong, as well as making it easier to process visas and handle travel. Keep us in your

prayers as we set things up – this could be a tremendous benefit for our Kingdom

work in the region.

Thanks once again for all your interest and support. If you want to know

more about what we are doing, please remember you can contact us any time – our

information is in this newsletter. Keep focused on the race this fall, and God bless all

of you.

In His name, Jason

Velma

and our IRI team will be at the International Conference of Missions in Columbus,

Ohio November 13-16. If you are able to attend please stop by to say hello and visit

for a while. They will be at booth 1103. Your prayers are also requested for Velma

and the team as they share ABC Biblical style thinking, for all the missionaries

around the world and especially those in attendance at the conference.
