PREPPING THE SURFACE Exterior Untreated Wood Installation: For exterior untreated wood installation a moisture barrier of 30# felt doubled or a synthetic barrier is required. Exterior Treated Wood Installation: Moisture barrier of 2 layers of 30# felt is recommended when using treated plywood. Interior Wood Installation: Moisture barrier is recommended Interior Dry Wall: MSI can be installed over Dry Wall, 1) Hit one stud per stone, or 2) Use some type of dry wall anchor. Block Installation: MSI can be installed over block using masonry screws to apply stone to block. We recommend that the block be sealed before MSI installation. STEP 1: STARTING OFF RIGHT After applying your moisture barrier the starter strip is your first step with MSI P-Series Stone. It will be installed the length of your project area and it needs to be installed level. The starter strip is what your first row of stone will lock into. Drill through the channel of the starter strip. Each starter strip should be installed with two screws as shown in the photo to the right. Start- er Strip should sit at the bottom of the project. STEP 2: FIRST ROW OF MSI When inside and/or outside corners are present it is recommended that you start with inside corners first, then outside corners, then fill in between with flats. The first row locks onto the Starter Strip and the stones work better from left to right. When you get to the end of the each row measure and make the appropriate cut, using the remaining piece to begin your next row when possible. STEP 3: SECOND ROW AND CONTINUING Your second row and all following rows will stack and fasten directly onto the previous row of MSI stone. Make cuts where necessary, staggering each row. STEP 4: FINISHINGYou have several options for finishing out the last row of your projects and we recommend when possible to install the trims and sills first.

Universal Trim: Universal Trim a 2”x20” trim piece that can be used in many different ways, depending on your project. It can be used to finish the top of a project area, to trim around windows and doors, or to butt the stone to another surface. Use a polyurethane construction adhesive to attach the Universal Trim in conjunction with screws.

CTS - Chiseled Top Sill: The Transition Molding can be used to butt one material up to the stone. It’s an excellent way to dress up your project. Use a polyurethane construction adhesive to attach in conjunction with screws.

Chiseled Trim: This new innovative molding piece measuring 30” x 3.5” x 3.5” can be used in many different ways from a drip edge, to topping off your project area.

PIECING THE STONE: Cut to height and use a Polyurethane Construction Adhesive to attach the stone. The structural railing system may need to be cut to ensure a tight lock and finish. In some situations pre-drilling a pilot hole may be necessary to attach the last course with a mechanical fastener (i.e. galvanized screws).

ASSEMBLY TIPS:• Do not over tighten the screws• Check often that your stones are level - chalking lines can help with this• Use a rubber mallet to tap stones into place when necessary • Screws may need to be slightly backed out to allow the next stone to lock into place in certain situations.• When necessary, stones can be adjusted up or down to ensure a level course• Broken or cut stones are not waste, cut the remaining pieces into a usable stone and apply as normal.• Cut edges can be chipped, roughed, or painted to help hide the unnatural looking cut edge.• Hide your cuts by cutting and placing the cut side away from high visibility and angles.• Start your project in your least visible/high traffic area, so that by the time you have completed a few rows you will be a pro.• When using M-Rock’s Receptacle Stones, install that first and work towards it cutting the stone to fit flush against the recep-

tacle stone. Continue that row with a new piece on the other side of the receptacle.

REMEMBER When inside and/or outside corners are present it is recommended that you start with inside corners first, then outside corners, then fill in between with flats.

COLUMN STONEEach column stone is custom designed for installation right out of the box.

STEP 1:Wrap your column in 2 layers of 30# felt. Install a starter strip on each side of the post. Each starter strip should be installed with two screws drilled through the channel.

STEP 2:There are 4 different shaped stones. Lock shape 1 onto the starter strip followed in sequence by shapes 2, 3, and 4. DO NOT screw any of the sections to the post until all four are in place. Each section of the first level will require one screw. Do not over tighten the screws; only tighten until snug or until no visible gap in corners.

STEP 3:Rotate 1/4 turn and repeat Step 2 by stacking the next row directly on top of the first row and continue with each additional row. As you are working up the post, other necessary adjustments may need to be made.

STEP 4: Cutting may be necessary to finish the top row. If you have to make any cuts, do not cut the bottom section of the rail on the stone so that it can still be locked into place. Make your cut and set the stone into place to assure the fit. Once you are confident that your fit is correct, use a quality Construction Adhesive. Apply the desired amount to the top and back section and along each vertical butt joint, ensuring that the stone is locked into place.

COLUMN CAP Designed for the 6”x 6” post surround system. To top/cap your post. It is designed with a 2” over hang to cover the last row of post surround and the “pyramid” design is for both function and look. Attach your Pyramid Post Cap with a quality Construction Adhesive.

COLUMN TRIMThese trims allow your post to continue up and it is designed specifically for our MSI 6”x 6” Post Surrounds. The trim ring comes in two pieces and will need to be installed with a quality Construction Adhesive, leaving a 1/8” or ¼” gap between the top of the post and your trim. Apply the Construction Adhesive along the bottom groove and where the two pieces will meet. Caulking around the Post Trim Ring may be needed.

FIREPLACE TRIM KITOur Fireplace Trim Kit is designed for both the look and function for that perfect finish. A 7 piece trim kit contains: 2 Base Blocks, 2 Columns, a left and right header, and a key stone. Each section of the trim kit is manufactured with metal brackets for ease of installation. The Fireplace Trim Kit is a universal size, which can be cut to fit most fireplaces. Hearth Stones are sold separately.

STEP 1: TRIM KIT AND HEARTH STONESMeasure your hearth’s depth and width to determine the number of hearth stones needed. Now for your Trim Kit. Start by placing the hearth stone first, next place the base block (a) and one column (b) on top of that. Mark the columns height needed and cut to size using a masonry blade. Attach both side bases and columns. Center and attach the keystone (c). Now place the right and left headers (d) trimming to size needed.

STEP 2: APPLYING THE STONEWhen inside and/or outside corners are present it is recommended that you start with inside corners first, then outside corners, then fill in between with flats. The first row locks into the Starter Strip and the stones work better from left to right. When you get to the end of the each row measure and make the appropriate cut, using the remaining piece to begin your next row when possible.

STEP 3: FINISHINGCutting may be necessary to finish the top row. If you have to make any cuts, do not cut the bottom section of the rail on the stone, so that it can still be locked into place. Make your cut and set the stone into place to assure the fit. Once you are confident that your fit is correct, use a quality Construction Adhesive.
