♦ Prerequisites

♦ How to install the WebSphere Operational Decision Management offering

WebSphere Operational Decision Management offeringThe IBMWebSphere Operational Decision Management offering contains two packages:

WebSphere Decision CenterAn environment for business users to author, manage and test their business rules andbusiness events.

WebSphere Decision ServerThe development and runtime environments for business rules and business events.

WebSphere Operational Decision Management for z/OS offeringTo install WebSphere Operational Decision Management for z/OS refer to the ProgramDirectory PDF. This document is part of the WebSphere Operational Decision Managementfor z/OS shipment. The physical shipment of the product includes a printed copy of the ProgramDirectory. You can also download the Program Directory fromwww.ibm.com/software/ShopzSeries.

PrerequisitesBefore installing WebSphere Operational Decision Management, you must have the requiredsoftware installed. You can install these prerequisites using the product launchpad. For moreinformation, see Running the launchpad.

WebSphere Operational Decision Management has the following prerequisites:

♦ IBM Installation Manager

♦ WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment

For more information on the supported versions, see the links in Installation requirements.

How to install the WebSphere Operational Decision ManagementofferingYou can install the WebSphere Operational Decision Management packages using thelaunchpad and Installation Manager.

♦ Running the launchpad

The launchpad installs the prerequisites forWebSphere Operational DecisionManagement. It then installs the packages using Installation Manager.

The launchpad provides two types of installer to complete these steps. You must chooseeither the Typical installer or the Custom installer:

● The Typical installer installs all the prerequisites. It then installs a default set of featuresfor both WebSphere Decision Center and WebSphere Decision Server.

● The Custom installer provides links to install the prerequisites manually, and then promptsyou to select the features within each package that you want to install. The Custominstaller opens Installation Manager with the repository locations configured for you,and proceeds with the installation.

♦ Installing WebSphere Operational Decision Management using Installation Manager

You can use Installation Manager without the launchpad if you have already installed allof the prerequisites, and you know the repository URLs for WebSphere Decision Centerand WebSphere Decision Server.

The installation kit contains two disks. To perform the tasks described in thisdocumentation, you must copy the contents of both disks to the same directory on

Warning:

your computer. Some files are common to both disks and you can overwrite themsafely.

Make sure that your hard disk contains a least 8 GB of free space.

If you run the installation directly from the DVDs you can only perform a custominstallation.

Package groups and shared directoryWhen installingWebSphere Operational DecisionManagement, InstallationManager proposesa default package group and a shared resources directory.

Package groupA package group is a directory where compatible packages share common components suchas a user interface or workbench. The default package group for the WebSphere DecisionCenter and WebSphere Decision Server packages is WODM75 (For example, C:/ProgramFiles/IBM/WODM75 on Windows XP), and the name of the package group is IBMWebSphere Operational Decision Management.

You can create a new package group or install the packages into an existing compatible packagegroup. Some packages cannot share a package group, in which case the option to use anexisting package group is disabled.

When you create a new package group, a new Eclipse instance is installed at the root of theinstallation directory (package group directory).

Youmight want to install in an existing package group if you have installed supported versionsof compatible products such as IBM Integration Designer or Rational Application Developer, and you want to extend the existing Eclipse instance with Rule Designer and Event Designerfeatures.

You can install WebSphere Operational Decision Management in the package groups of thefollowing products:

♦ IBM Integration Designer

♦ Rational Application Developer

♦ Rational Developer for z (RDz)

♦ Rational Software Architect

To check the supported versions of these products, see the software requirements forWebSphere Operational Decision Management:

♦ WebSphere Decision Server:http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg27023052

When you install several packages at the same time, all the packages are installed intothe same package group. After creating the package group, you cannot change the

Note:

installation directory. The installation directory contains files and resources specific toWebSphere Operational Decision Management.

Shared resources directoryThe shared resources directory is where Eclipse plug-ins are located so that they can be usedby one or more product package groups. The name of the shared resources directory dependson the first product that you have installed with Installation Manager. For example,<IBM_InstallDir> /IBMIMShared or <IBM_InstallDir> /SDPShared, where<IBM_InstallDir> refers to your IBM installation directory.

You specify the shared resources directory the first time that you install a package.

When you install a new instance of Eclipse, the language packs for the languages that youhave selected, are installed. However, if you are extending an existing Eclipse, you must selectthe languages for which you already have the language packs installed.

If you select a language that is not already installed in your existing Eclipse, you mightget error. To solve this issue, clear the languages that are not installed in your Eclipse.
