ADVANCED MINERAL PROCESSING TECHNOLOGY – FUTURE PERSPECTIVES14.30
• The costs associated due to energy and quantity loss of coal as an outcome of spontaneous combustion are considerable. Not to mention, spontaneous combustion can be dangerous if not managed properly. • For the past 3 years, AKJ has funded a fellowship at the University of Kentucky School of Mining to conduct research on the spontaneous combustion of coal. A device has been created which allows various coals to be tested in order to analyze their propensity to spontaneously combust under the right conditions. • The SponCom device allows AKJ to test various chemicals and their ability to retard or the threat of spontaneous combustion. In order to solve the problem, it is critical to be able to create the problem in a lab setting so that significant product development work can be done. Coal treated with AKJ's SponSuppress can be safely transported and stored for months at a time without the fear of Spontaneous Combustion.
• Commercial application results-removing sulfur and ash for a high sulfur Illinois coal• Economic data on the process• Commercially accepted around the world

Right now in the mining industry by effect of lowering of the metal prices the economical performance of the Mineral processing Plants are decreasing and it is necessary optimize the actual operation and/or increase the capacity with additional investments in more Mills and peripherical equipments for try to balance the economical operation. In Perú, we have made some successful optimization in the classification of the grinding circuit, mainly we installed High Frequency Derrick Screen for increase the capacity of the mills between 10% to 30% of the actual grinding operation with the same mills, this mean increase the production of the concentrates in same ratio, really, it is many additional millions of dollars per year.We describe in this paper some Real operations, that right now are working successful by many years and explain How, we can do this successful optimization for increase the profit in the Plant Operation. In addition, we explain some new uses of the High Frequency Derrick Screen in other circuits of the mineral processing operation that will be helpful for other plants.Godofredo Barrios, General Manager, Goldex, Peru

SURFACE MINING OPERATIONAL EFFICIENCY: FUTURE CONSID-ERATIONS AND IMPROVEMENT STRATEGIES : IMPROVING EFFICIENCY AS WELL AS IMPROVING PRODUCTIVITY

• Aside from comminution processes, in many wet mineral processing circuits water and slurry pumping duties are the major energy consumer and therefore cost driver. We will consider various process equipment developments that are relevant to minimizing the demand for energy and clean process water. • Modern bucketwheels – in letting gravity do much of the work - present an ultra-low energy demand, high-technical efficiency solution for recovery and dewatering of granular minerals from slurry. We will compare investment and operating costs of a bucketwheel against those of a “conven-tional” (similar scope) pump/cyclone/dewatering screen module.• “Digesters”, a variant of tank style attrition cells, offer significant benefits in washing high clay content or accreted raw materials. Downstream screening and slurry pumping costs can be significantly reduced, compared with conven-tional processing. The use of Digesters and Hindered Settling classifiers ganged together offer a means to beneficiate in a very economical manner high clay content raw materials. An example at a construction sand operation in Australia will be discussed.
• A novel non thermal pneumatic dewatering drying technology• Efficient innovative and economic process for dry cleaning of coal
• Shaping the global research field – focusing on delivery• Confronting the obstacles to processing advancements• Innovation – debating the true cost of innovation and driving innovation break throughs
