International Day for Biological Diversity 2018
Centre for Environmental Studies organized an awareness programme to prevent birds from
migrating and providing water and shelter to birds in a programme organized by the Yenviron
club on 14.05.2018. Mr. Nithyananda Shetty from Badyar, B. C. Road was the resource
person. He has been designing mud pots for bird nests since many years. Mud containers for
food and water were also set up in the University campus. Students participated by tying the
pots designed for bird nests on trees and filling water in pots.

International Day for Biological Diversity 2016
The „International Day for Biological Diversity‟ was celebrated jointly by the Centre for
Environmental Studies and Yenepoya Nursing College on May 26th
2016. „NUTRIYEN‟ an
exhibition on cereals and pulses was organized. Dr. M. Vijayakumar, Hon‟ble Vice
Chancellor, Yenepoya University inaugurated the exhibition. About 58 varieties of edible
seeds were displayed along with their nutritive values. 20 varieties of exotic fruit species
were also exhibited. The students from Nursing college displayed charts on nutritive value of
seeds and demonstrated house hold testing of adulterants in common foods. Dr. C. V.

Chancellor, Kannur & Calicut Universities, Dr. Sreekumar Menon, Additional Registrar, Mr.

College, staff & students attended the programme.

International Day for Biological Diversity 2015
Environmental Studies, Yenepoya University on May 23rd 2015. The activities of the day
included planting of sapling (Aphanamixis polystachya) by Dr. P Chandramohan, Vice
Chancellor, Yenepoya University. An exhibition displaying 130 plants of 62 varieties
including some rare, endangered, threatened, sacred and medicinal species of Western Ghats
were displayed by the Forest department, Mangalore division, Government of Karnataka.
Hon‟ble Vice Chancellor, Dr. P. Chandramohan highlighted the importance of the day and
inaugurated the exhibition. A guest lecture on biodiversity of Western Ghats was presented
and plant photographs with description were displayed by Mr. Dinesh Nayak, Advisor (Green
Belt), Mangalore SEZ Ltd. A competition on “Birds of Yenepoya University campus” was
organized in connection with this day by the YENVIRON club and prizes were distributed by
Hon‟ble Vice Chancellor. A slide show on the photos of the competition was exhibited. Dr.
Bhagya B. Sharma, Assistant Director, Centre for Environmental Studies, welcomed the
