If selected, a non-refundable fee of Rs.5000 (equivalent in Indian Rupees for applicants from
outside India) for the first month of mandatory internship stay and Rs.2000 per month thereafter
will be charged by FITT as operational charges. For instance, during a Batch-3 internship (July –
Dec), a minimum stay of 4 months is mandatory and thus a operational fee of Rs.11000 (Rs.5000
for first month + Rs.2000 for second month + Rs.2000 for third month + Rs.2000 for fourth
month) will be charged. Similarly for a Batch-2 (Summer) internship, a minimum stay of 2 months
is mandatory and thus an operation fee of Rs.7000 will be charged (Rs.5000 for the first month
and Rs.2000 for the second month).
There will be no fee for (a) KVPY Fellows and KVPY Summer Camp Fellows (also see note
below regarding KVPY Summer Camp Fellows) and (b) Interns selected under IIT Delhi‟s Institute
Internship Schemes (such as IITD Summer Research Fellowship) who opt for this Internship
scheme (all relevant rules to those schemes will apply as per norms) or for (c) Indian Academy of
Sciences Fellows. KVPY students will pay only for their boarding and lodging in IITD hostels and
claim a refund from KVPY Office.
KVPY Summer Camp Interns will pay no application fee and no operational fee when they
come in summer. However, if KVPY-Summer Camp interns apply for the internship during
non-summer batches, full application fees and full handling fees will have to be paid.
IITD Summer interns will be supported as per IITD norms. Indian Academy of Sciences Interns
will be supported as per MoU. Students applying under PHOCOS Research Alliance of IITD-
IITB-IISc-ISP/CUSAT will not be charged the Application Fee & may apply for waiver/refund of
Internship Fee (however, hostel accommodation is on availability basis only).
Multiple Students from same Institution: Since all applications need a NOC from the T&P
Officer, the T&P Officer of any Institution knows the number of students applying from the
Institute to this Program. If the number of applicants is more than two, the T&P Officer must
collect all applications, conduct an internal selection and forward all applications (together, in one
envelope) along with the Consolidated Merit List. The method of selection and justification for the
merit list must be mentioned along with special remarks if any. Multiple applications from the
same organization which do not follow this procedure or are submitted separately without any
Consolidated Merit List are liable to be rejected without assigning any further reasons.
Applications from more than two students from the same Institute which have been forwarded
through TPOs without a Consolidated Merit List will be summarily rejected and will have to to be
re-submitted afresh as fresh applications with full processing fees to be paid again and with the
CML enclosed.
In certain Institutions, we have Liaison Faculty colleagues who perform this selection.
Applications from those institution must be forwarded through them (they will conduct the internal
selection test above).
No direct applications / emailed applications from self-supported students will be entertained.
They must be forwarded by either the T&P Section or the Head of the Department of the
concerned student or the Liaison Faculty of that Institute. After T&P issues a NOC, the Liaison
Faculty will conduct a internal selection, counsel students on their project interests for a best-
match and then forward a consolidated merit list of all students to the Coordinator of the GIPEDI
Program.
Only the following Institutes / organisations have a liaison faculty at the moment with the GIPEDI
(see below).

Fee Waiver Clause: Any candidate submitting proof (income tax return / Notarized Certificate
from Tahsildar) of an annual income (of both parents/guardians/custodians, from all sources of
income) of less than Indian Rupees One lakh /year shall be considered for a partial waiver of
application and handling fees.
Roll-over Facility: Any intern has the one-time option to re-apply and be selected to continue for
the next batch (this is called the “internship period roll-over option” and can be exercised any
number of times with the appropriate extended payments being made) – depending on the
performance in the internship, the fee may be waived / reduced in these cases. The roll-over
facility is only considered if the Faculty Supervisor agrees to the roll-over.
The minimum number of academic contact hours is the same number of hours as a B.Tech /
M.Tech project within IIT Delhi (for Interns who stay within 40 kms of IIT Delhi). Interns who
stay outside 40 kms of IIT Delhi must stay full-time (the letter of no-objection from their parent
Institute includes a clause that this will be allowed as a part of their normal academic schedule).
Returnship Facility: The Returnship is a unique program designed to allow any professional –
specially women - who are eager to return to active careers after a mid-career break. It allows mid-
career professionals to test their fit to new careers in different fields in a graded sand box
environment. It allows such individuals to choose a period of training (typically two to three
months for which they pay a fee), followed by a period of paid internship (ranging from two to
twelve months or more in which we utilize their newly acquired services and pay them a stipend
back). It allows for a ramp-up period and then a experience gaining period at your own pace, in
your time with the provision of flexi-time. We provide graded levels of mentorship and we hand-
hold the returnee through the return to a full-time professional career.
A special case of the Returnship Scheme (Category S.1) is reserved for professional women
engineers who have had gap years due to family reasons. On a case to case basis, we provide
counseling and hosting assistance for DST WOS-A, WOS-B and Disha Fellowship applicants.
WOS-C applicants are not supported at this moment due to our lack of facilities.
Gap Internship Facility: The Gap Internship is for students who have availed of a gap year while
remaining on the rolls of a recognized Academic Institution in India or for professionals who are
taking a gap year for changing their domain of work. It is also applicable to fresh graduates /
postgraduates who are waiting for a admission / posting / job / placement (i.e. those who are on-
the-bench) – you are requested to file a self-attested copy of your offer letter if you have one as
proof of the next program in support of your application. Applications will be considered on a case
to case basis.
8 | P a g e
Reverse Internship Facility: The Reverse Internship is meant to associate interns with specific
advanced expertise in a particular area with a faculty who wishes to pose a problem in that area.
For example, a student who is very proficient at animation could be associated with a Faculty
Member who requires a particular animation to be completed. Applicants will be considered on a
case to case basis. Flexitime and payment for successfully completed projects will also be
considered.
Affirmative action: We recognize that there are circumstances in which the educational initiative
of the applicant needs to be encouraged. We therefore have no application fees + partial operation
fee waivers for students (Category S.2) who have been educated through any rural school at the
primary or secondary levels or Satya Bharti schools run by the Bharti Foundation, Shiv Nadar
Trust and the Sampark Foundation.
Confidentiality / Non-disclosure Agreement: Any part of your work which is considered
classified/ confidential / proprietary or is performed under a non-disclosure agreement must be
expunged from your submitted Project Report if advised by your Project Supervisor or the
Coordinator, GIPEDI. A Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) may have to be signed by the
applicant at the beginning of the project to this effect.
Training Methodology: The selected participants will be trained through a rigorous hands-on
procedure on projects in engineering design and innovation. The program will be through exposure
to actual on-going research projects and student projects in various Departments /Centers /Schools
of IIT Delhi through Faculty / Staff participating in this internship Program.
Stipends: A few of the participants in some projects will be supported through internship stipends.
All applicants in all categories are eligible to apply for such stipends. The amount of the stipend
will depend on the project and will be decided by the Principal Investigator.
Areas: Some of the representative areas in which these projects will be available for the current
batch of inductees are: (a) Embedded Systems – RTOS, hardware / software co-design, UML
programming, SDLC based concepts, advanced data structures, microcontroller based design,
device driver development, smart camera systems (b) Network Security and Management:

(d) If more than two students are applying from any Institution in Self-supported Category,
then the T&P Officer / Liaison Officer is to conduct an internal selection and forward the
names of the student (applicants) in a Consolidated Merit List (see last page of the
Application Form for the format of this list). Multiple applicants without this Merit List
available from the T&P will be liable for rejection.
