2 CEVA Proprietary Information

M2M/IoT Communications Challenges Key Challenges

Existing Solutions

Flexibility Many standards, some still under development Specifications are not finalized and will require updates and remote upgrades in the field

Multi-mode Most use-cases require multiple functions to run concurrently

PHY & Protocol require a high performance processor with true RTOS to minimize latencies

Extreme low power: 10 years on 2 AA batt

Very low cost: < $5 / module

HW centric modems Can’t be upgraded to track standards evolution and country variants Can’t perform field updates

Multimode systems are heterogeneous Piecewise collection of independent modems

Sub-optimal area and cost

Longer Time to Market

Software Defined Modems (SDM) are required to address these challenges with low cost and low power solutions

Addressing Global M2M/IoT Connectivity

Presenter
Presentation Notes
Thank you Alon. To summarize this presentation, we have shown how the 2 new communication DSP CEVA-XC5 and XC8 have been designed to address the specific requirements of the M2M connectivity including the latest LTE categories 0 and M, the Low Power Wide Area NB-IoT Sigfox and LoRa and the mesh topologies based on PLC and 802.15.4g. We have seen that most cellular enabled M2M devices require also positioning technology based either on satellites or cellular triangulation for indoor use. These rich cellular connectivity capabilities serve a wide range of IoT market segments, ranging from industrial, smart cities, transportation, to health, smart home and wearables. All together they will represent over 400 Million devices shipped yearly by 2020. This completes our “Low Power LTE for IoT” Webinar. Thank you for attending and we now welcome your questions that you can ask using the online Q&A tool. We will be sending the presentation slides and the audio webinar by email to all attendees.
