Most ALs stated they particularly valued:

• live Elluminate practice sessions (one-to-one with a mentor and/or in a small training group)

• the VLE forum where tutors could post questions, comments, suggestions, solutions

Recommendations

Focus on survival skills: ‘you can get by with using quite a limited number of the features if you don’t want to go further.’

More live group sessions.

Experience of interface as a student.

Plenty of online practice – if possible across a range of times and days of the week.

What’s the rationale? Assessment…

Provide Tutorial Notes (particularly for 1st tutorial).

You may need to say (and say again) that the notes are not prescriptive.

Make clear that tutors don’t need to do all the activities: ‘slower and deeper’

An hour is about enough.

Tell students they need a headset with built-in mic.

Drop-in/icebreaker?

Tutors need to be familiar with resolving basic sound problems: use the Audio Wizard, reducing the number of speakers.
