GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
Complete a Literacy and Numeracy Assessment to demonstrate a minimum standard based on skills regarded as essential for individuals to meet the demands of everyday life and work in a knowledge-based economy.
Complete a minimum of four Year 12 ATAR courses including the external examination (i.e. be eligible for an ATAR) or
complete a Certificate II or higher.
To achieve a WACE students must satisfy the following:
BREADTH & DEPTH
Complete at least 20 units (or equivalents) including a minimum of 10 Year 12 units.
Complete two Year 11 English units and a pair of Year 12 English units.
One pair of units from a Year 12 List A (arts/languages/social sciences) course and one pair of units from a Year 12 List B course (mathematics/sciences/technologies).
To achieve a WACE students must:

Achieve a minimum of 14 C grades (or equivalent) in Year 11 and Year 12, including at least 6 C grades in Year 12 units (or equivalents).
Unit equivalence can be obtained through VET and/or Endorsed Programs to a maximum of 8 units.
Up to 8 unit equivalents through completed VET programs
Up to 4 unit equivalents through completed Endorsed programs
Up to 8 unit equivalents through a combination of VET and Endorsed Programs

VET equivalences
• For a completed Certificate I, units of competency must have a minimum of 110 nominal hours.
• For a completed Certificate II, the achievement of units of competency must be a minimum of 220 hours. More substantial elective units may be required to ensure the minimum is met.
A Unique Student Identifier (USI) is needed for every student undertaking nationally recognised training from 2015.
For students, the USI will build an online record of their nationally recognised training. Students must have a USI before they can be issued with a statement of attainment or certificate.

Typically, students enrolled at a school cannot sit an Authority examination as a private candidate.
From 2016, private candidature in ATAR examinations will only be available to students:
seeking mature age university entrance OR
undertaking language courses through interstate offerings (e.g. Chinese: Background – NSW) OR
Undertaking European background language courses (e.g. German background language)

Checklist for Students to be Successful in Year 11
Completion of all courses.
‘C ’ grades in courses as a minimum .
‘C ’ or better in English or Literature.
To continue University pathway: a competitive score for Uni entry (65% average or better) – ‘B ’ grades.
To continue STP/TAFE Diploma pathway: A minimum ‘C ’ in all Year 11 courses. Completion of one Certificate II course in Year 11 and enrolled for a second Certificate II course in Year 12.
Prior to completing Year 11, each student is expected to have:
Submitted all assessment requirements in each Course.
Achieved a ‘C’ grades in ten (10) units or five (5) courses.
Handed their signed Year 12 Status – 2016 form to Ms Schofield, Dean of Studies.
Expectations of Year 11
Students who have been deemed not to have gained their Year 12 Status will be required to have an interview with Ms Schofield or one of the Course Advisors before the end of Term 4.
Students may be designated as Year 11 in the following academic year (Year 12) and not be permitted to attend Year 12 extra curricular activities until they are on the pathway to achieving their WACE at the end of 2016.
PRIVATE STUDY 2016
Eligible students will have:
An ATAR/University pathway
Achieved sound results in Year 11 (‘B’ average);
Demonstrated a high level of responsibility for their learning and time management.
Approval will depend on assessment of each individual case by the
College’s Course and Careers Advisor, with whom the student and
parent(s) will be required to meet to fully consider the implications of
the reduction to five full-year courses.
Alternatives to Returning to School in 2016
These pathways are:
STP/TAFE full-time;
Apprenticeship or a traineeship;
Approved employment;
Private Training provider.

Students can select from of the many CERTIFICATE courses to give you the competitive edge for STP/TAFE and portfolio entry.
Students will sit external WACE exams in all ATAR courses at the end of 2016.
If you plan to apply for Private Study, you must gain endorsement through an interview at a later date with the Course and Careers Advisor. You should still choose 6 Courses
Hence Ms Schofield, Ms Pendlebury or Ms Johnson must have signed against your Private Study that this has been approved OR have written the date for the scheduled interview.

You may wish to consider attending ONE of STP/TAFE or Work Place Learning, one day a week. If so tick () in the box:

- If you select Work Place Learning, then you still need to choose 6 courses, once it is confirmed that your WPL is one day a week you may then reduce this.
- If you select STP/(TAFE), ONCE it is confirmed that you are enrolled at STP/TAFE, you may then drop one of the 6 selected courses. This means you will study 5 courses at school and one course at STP/TAFE.

Scaled scores from only two mathematics courses may be used in the ATAR.
Will I get what I want?
Most students get their six courses.
If not, then two courses occur at the same time or the course has been cancelled.
Pre-requisites will be enforced.
Have a 7th choice in mind.
Re-selection occurs mid Term three.
Can I Change ?Can I Change ? THIS YEAR is preferable.
Ideally you have been in a two year program – this will give you the best chance at reaching your full potential by the end of year 12.
Remember all courses are year long next year (Units must be studied in pairs, for the full year)
Any change in 2016 is best completed ASAP by the end of Week 5, Term One. SCSA will not allow any student to make courses changes after Week 8, Term One.
