Introduction
Formerly known as Halal Reference Centre.
It was a vision and brainchild of the
Malaysian Prime Minister. During the
inaugural on 31st December 2008, 200
visitors were recorded on the launch day
In Halal Master Plan Phase 1, it has been
rebranded as Global Halal Support Centre
(March 2009)
By December 2010, Global Halal Support
Centre has received approximately 13million
visitors from more than 100 countries. The
global participations includes international
companies, public and researches locally
and abroad

Project Name HDC Halal Mobile Apps
Status On-progress (Target : April 2011)
In the attempt to help consumers locating halal
food premises or restaurants, HDC has
introduced Halal Apps on iPhone platform.
This World’s First Government Halal Certified
premise locator developed to assist users to
accurately locate halal food premises using the
Global Positioning System (GPS) technology
and Google Maps. Users would be able to
locate and do ratings on halal food premises
and restaurants certified by JAKIM.
After the successful HDC iPhone Apps launch
last year, GHSC has moved forward with Nokia,
our newest collaborator is now optimizing our
existing Halal Apps module into their fleet.
Soon, HDC Halal Apps will be made available in
Nokia’s OVI store.

promoting the lifestyle of “Halalan Thoyyiban”
globally apart of its functionality for online
business matching through halal directory,

and related fatwas on halal.

discussion of halal - its definition and the

Status On-going (Expansion Program)
Part of HDC’s goal is to reach out to the
consumers and public and giving out
information about Halal and developing
the Halal Lifestyle in their daily life. One of
the methods to grab the attention of the
general public is by disseminating
information in the form of Interactive
Kiosks (I-Kiosk) which are placed at
strategic locations and high density area.
The impact study conducted since July
2010 has recorded more than 150,000
users have utilized HDC iKiosk positioned
at Carrefour Putrajaya and MyDin USJ.

its wholesomeness

Project Name The Launch of Global Halal Support Centre
Status On-progress (Target : 30 Sept 2011)
The Global Halal Support Centre (GHSC) is
established to position Malaysia, via HDC, as a
world leader and global reference centre in Halal
knowledge and Halal-related services, both for
investors and consumers.
To translate this vision, HDC will launch a One
Stop Centre known as Global Halal Support
Centre (GHSC) . This is an important milestone to
represent Malaysia commitment for supporting
the industry and public at large.
The centre provides, as near as possible, a one
stop support for companies and service
providers in halal-related sectors including halal
related know-how, information on halal products
and services and market and industry support.

Project Name Data Warehouse
Status On-progress (Target : December 2011)
To be a truly Global Halal Support Centre
(GHSC), its our vision to integrate data between
various agencies and institution.
There are issues on fragmentation of data and
information and scattered in various location in
government bodies.
The Data Warehouse system has the ability to
process data to be informative. To do this, HDC
to access other agencies selected data and to
manage, filter and gather only Halal related
data. With this system, HDC would be able to
produce a comprehensive industry report
which would be able to measure and report the
progress and the outcomes of halal program
and initiatives spearheaded by the government.

The goals of this architecture are to:
• Separate transaction-processing systems
from huge ad hoc queries that are
required for analytical, on demand executive
decision systems.

• Facilitate enhanced end user access and
provide more timely answers to business
questions by industry players.

Project Name Halal Guide Book - Cosmetic
Status Target : Launching at MIHAS 2012
The first of its kind, the Halal Guide Series : Halal
Guide Book for Food Producers. It is a reference
book for food producers applying for the Halal
Malaysia Certification. The guide book lists
guidelines and step-by-step procedures based on
the MS1500, Hazard Analysis and Critical Control
Points (HACCP) and Good Manufacturing Practice
(GMP). Comprehensive in scope, yet easy to
understand with illustration and images.
The recent launch on Halal Cosmetics Standard,
MS 2200: 2008 has created the interests among
the SMEs to participate in the Halal Cosmetic
industry. HDC sees this as an opportunity to
introduce Halal Guide Book for Cosmetic
producers.

Status Target : Completed
This joint promotion between HDC and The Halal Index
(www.thehalalindex.com) is another new achievements in halal knowledge
development. The publication represents a first dealing with pharmaceutical
compounds from porcine (pig based) origins. It is addressed to the Muslim
and all those who serve this market.
