Pre – Production is the basic skills needed to successfully prepare to create a multimedia product. For example in the film industry the production teams might create the following resources:

Mind Map Storyboard Mood Board Location Search Prop Analysis

All of these combined will help create a focus for the product

What is Pre Production

Mind Mapping

Used as a tool to put all ideas together regarding the make up of the product.

The idea is to create links between areas and show production structure

Mood Boards

Mood Boards are a first line tool to help a designer get to grips with what a client wants.

They are made as a collage, normally on a A3 board. They can contain:

• Pictures• Photographs• Colours• Screenshots• Text

Storyboards

Storyboards are mainly used when producing an animation or a video product. They are used to show a visualization of the process of the story. Each box is part of a scene in the production.

Visualization

This is an image used to show what something could look like in a final production.

Take this image for example:

This is a design for a DVD cover of a movie. Each part is annotated and alternatives are clearly shown.

Using the “Pre – Production Information sheet” explain the purpose of each of the stated techniques.

Give an example of where they may be used and the reason why it would be useful.
