The special gases game has changed, and so have we. The requirement for analysis and quantification is ever-changing, so BOC has invested in an $18M special gases production facility with state-of-the art information systems. The facility is dedicated to producing safe, high-quality specialty gas products so you can count on BOC to have the knowledge and capability to meet your needs. By utilising Linde’s world-leading expertise in specialty gases, the facility has been custom designed to locally produce exotic gas mixtures in Australia.

→ Liquid hydrocarbon mixtures → Trace multi-component sulphur mixtures → A wide variety of exotic components available for use

in specialty gas mixtures, including the ability to add unusual components as required

(for most mixtures)

Intelligent specialised gas mixture formulation

BOC is introducing state-of-the-art technology to specialty gases. The Linde Group has developed technology that redefines the way custom specialty gas mixtures are formulated. The new system will calculate the custom properties and safety data instantly for most specialty gas mixtures.

If the mixture can be safely made, the system will automatically create the material (or part number) – ensuring a quicker production time.

ISO 17025 for competence in testingBOC specialty gas facilities in Australia and New Zealand are certified to ISO 17025 as testing laboratories. The purity, specification and shelf life of our HiQ® products are precisely what you request, with the stability of our gas mixtures guaranteed.

ISO 17025 specifies the general requirements for the competence to perform tests, including sampling. It covers testing and calibration performed using standard and in house methods and is applicable to all organisations undertaking analytical work.

ISO Guide 34 for reference material productionAccording to ISO Guide 34 ‘General requirements for the competence of reference material producers’ a reference material is produced using a metrologically valid procedure for quantification of one or more specified properties. It is be accompanied by a certificate that provides the value of the specified property (composition), its associated uncertainty, and a statement of metrological traceability.

HiQ® specialty gas facilities in Australia and New Zealand have received accreditation to this standard by NATA or IANZ. Providing you with the highest level of quality assurance.

ISO 9000 and 9001 for end-to-end qualityBOC has a quality management system meeting the requirements of the ISO 9000 series of standards, regularly assessed and approved by independent auditors.

BOC facilities are also ISO 9001 certified, demonstrating that our quality control procedures are regularly subjected to scrutiny by independent auditors.

Further ISO complianceTo ensure that all gas mixtures are produced to the quality standards expected by our customers, BOC also complies with the following ISO standards where applicable:

→ ISO 6141 Requirement for certificates for calibration gas mixtures. → ISO 6142 Gas analysis. Preparation of calibration gas mixtures.

Gravimetric method. → ISO 6144 Preparation of calibration gas mixtures by

volumetric method. → ISO 6976 Specified method for the calculation of the calorific

value and the Wobbe index of dry natural gas and other combustible gaseous fuels.

Note: Filling pressures are indicative only and based upon a gas mixture of 5% oxygen, 6% carbon dioxide in nitrogen. Actual filling pressures and volumes vary by mixture and may be reduced.

Innovative new packaging delivering improved efficiency, safety and convenienceWe are excited to introduce high-pressure filling to specialty gases. With pressures up to 300 bar, BOC’s innovative cylinders provide you with significantly increased efficiency while improving safety and convenience.

At a higher pressure, more gas volume is available for use – meaning less cylinder movements, less deliveries and fewer orders to manage. This may also reduce your storage requirements and cylinder changeover frequency.

BOC will notify you before making any changes to the pressure of your cylinders.

Material code changes are required to some existing specialty gas mixtures.Most mixtures have material codes re-created in the new system to support the transition, with some kept consistent. Some mixture categories, such as HiQ® LifeScience and HiQ® LifeScience Plus will have modified material codes.

For new mixtures, or for mixtures that have not been purchased recently, a new material code will be created upon request. The new system will generate the new code instantly.

Are you using EDI?If you are using EDI to order your materials, please ensure your system is updated to use the new material code. If you use EDI for a material that has not been ordered since 2015, please contact BOC if the material is still required.

The software will automatically link the new material code to the previous. There are no delays with your order. The new material code will be shown on your order confirmation and invoice.

Recent changes in AS 4484 require changes to the way some complex specialty gas mixture cylinders are painted. The Australian Standard has been simplified, reducing the maximum number of colours displayed on the cylinder from five to four.

Simple mixtures not intended for inhalation with less than five colours are not affected by this revision.

For example, a complex hydrocarbon mixture which currently has five colours painted on the cylinder will have a reduced band count.

GENIE® cylinders come in two sizes and contain gas at a pressure up to 300bar. This means a GENIE® contains up to 108% more gas than equivalent steel cylinder.

Portable and practical, with an in-built regulator. Available 2018.Many of today’s industries need a broad range of analytical equipment. Analysers and monitors are used to check for and measure environmental pollution, quality control, process engineering etc. A wide range of gas mixtures is required to calibrate and bump test the equipment to ensure its correct operation.

Linde has developed a unique and environmentally friendly solution – a small, refillable cylinder equipped with a valve, a fixed pressure regulator and a flow meter. All integrated into the cylinder’s protection cap.

The result is a safe, easy and ready-to-use system. The end user only needs to open the cylinder valve and select from the pre-set flow ranges.

The units are suited for non-corrosive pure gases as well as gas mixtures that contain non-corrosive or corrosive components.

GENIE® ECOCYL® RSH

With ECOCYL® RSH, Linde can provide a truly portable cylinder with integrated equipment, fully protected by a cylinder cap. For added convenience, ECOCYL® RSH units are available with practical shoulder straps.

The new system will generate a specific body label for every material, with material specific information, safety information and a barcode to easily scan-to-reorder using the BOC mobile app.All Specialty gas products will feature a generic shoulder label, unique to each dangerous goods category (UN number) to ensure compliance with safety and transport regulations.

The body label will also feature a QR code which can be scanned to view the specific SDS for that material online.

The body label will display a disposal group (8), which relates to the way in which the gas mixture must be destroyed to prevent environmental damage upon return to BOC and so can be disregarded.

A new certificate design for all certified specialty gas products. The new certificate has been updated for compliance with ISO 6141 and ISO Guide 31.

a. Assay dates for individual components, including multiple test dates for mixtures with reactive components. Some components will list a single date and some will list multiple dates.

b. Instrument calibration dates: the instrumentation used to perform the analysis on the product, including the date of last calibration/expiry is required on the certificate. This information is for reference only.

c. Reference standard calibration values: these are the certified concentrations of calibration gases used to calibrate the instrumentation. These are not the certified concentrations of the final product.

d. Digital download through the BOC webshop (www.boc.com.au or www.boc.co.nz) to prevent the need for removing the certificate from the cylinder, scanning and reattaching – now you can simply download the certificate through your account and store in your records.

e. A full A4 page size to allow easier handling and simplification of the scanning process for traceability.

f. Digitally approved: you will still receive a hard copy certificate with the cylinder but it will not have a physical signature instead this will be replaced with a digital signature. These certificates are valid for use and are digitally controlled.

g. Signatory name: This is the new digital signature.
