2. Compassionate Justice quot; The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hasanointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recoveryof sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, toproclaim the year of the Lord's favor.quot; (Is 61:1-2).He defended the cause of the poor and needy, and so all went well. Is that not whatit means to know me? declares the LORD. (Jeremiah 22:16) 3. Compassionate Justice quot;Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: to loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, to set the oppressed free and break every yoke? Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to providethe poor wanderer with shelterwhen you see the naked, to clothe him and not to turn away from your own esh and blood? (Isaiah 58:6-7)He who oppresses the poor shows contempt fortheir Maker, but whoever is kind to the needyhonors God. (Proverbs 14:31) 4. Compassionate Justice This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers. If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth. (1 John 3:16-18) All they asked was that we should continue to remember the poor, the very thing I was eager to do. (Galatians 2:10) 5. Compassionate JusticeWhat good is it, my brothers and sisters, if yousay you have faith but do not have works? Can faithsave you? If a brother orsister is naked and lacks daily food, and one of you says to them, Go in peace;keep warm and eat your ll,' and yet you do not supply their bodily needs, what isthe good of that? So faith by itself, if it has no works, is dead. James 2:14-17 6. Compassionate Justice For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, thatthough he was rich, yet foryour sakes he became poor,so that you through hispoverty might become rich.2 Corinthians 8:9 7.
