Part A:

What is the plan of action chalked out by the IQAC in the beginning of the year towards quality enhancement and what is the outcome by the end of the year.

Plan 1:- Formation of Students Council through the process of nomination. Achievement in curricular activities was the sole criterion employed.

Execution of Plan:-

a. On 04.10.2008 one student representative from each class of 3 year law course and 5 year law course, was nominated as councilor. Among them one was nominated as General Secretary and another as Ladies Secretary for Academic and Gymkhana activities.

b. Gymkhana Union was inaugurated by Dr. K.J.N. Karunakaran, the National Awardee in Sports on 21.10.2008.

c. On 17.07.2008 various departments were allotted to the faculty members to supervise and advice the respective secretaries in the departmental activities, as mentioned below.

i. Shri A. H. Hawaldar, Chairman for Gymkhana Union and Extension Programme.ii. Mrs. Preeti Desai, Chairperson for Debating Union.

iii. Shri S. S. Hegde, Chairman for Miscellany Department and Health Checkup camp.

iv. Shri D.Prasannakumar, Chairman for Music and Cultural Association.v. Shri S. S. Desai, Chairman for Moot Court competitions.

d. The Gymkhana Union comprises of following departments with the respective Secretaries:

Plan2:- Debating Union

a. Conducting the prestigious Bembalgi shield Kannada Debate competitionb. Conducting the prestigious Majali Memorial shield English debate competition c. Organising the Annual Debating Union competitions like Debate and Extempore

in Kannada and English.d. Encouragement to the students to participate in the Intercollegiate, State Level

and National Level Debate, Elocution, Essay, Extempore and quiz etc., competitions conducted by various institutions.

Execution of Plan:-

a. On 20.02.2009 a debate competition on ‘Eradication of Terrorism’ was conducted in our college and large number of students participated.

b. On 07.03.2009 the prestigious Bembalgi and Majali Memorial Debate competitions were conducted and 58 participants from 25 Institutions participated. The Bembalgi Shield and Majali Shield were won by M.E.S. College of Commerce, Sirsi and Gogte College of Commerce, Belgaum respectively.

c. On 18.04.2009 Debating Union conducted Debate and Extempore competitions in Kannada and English for our college students.

c. Encouragement to the students to participate in the Intercollegiate, State Level and National Level Youth Festivals and Cultural competitions conducted by various institutions.

Execution of Plan:-a. On 28.04.2009 the Music and Cultural Association conducted Singing Competition

titled as “SARGAM” in two categories viz., Bhavageeta and Film Songs. Many students participated and won the prizes.

b. On 10.05.2009 the Music and Cultural Association organised Music Day Celebration titled as “LEX MUSICA” and 23 students performed on stage and large number of students participated. On this occasion Mr. Ankur Pai and Mr. Sommanath D prepared a Presentation on the “Legacy of the College” from 1939 till date and displayed the same to the students and staff.

c. Participation in the Karnataka University Youth Festival UNIFEST 2008 conducted by Lingaraj College, Belgaum.

• On 14th and 15th Oct. 2008 our ladies team consisting of Ms. Soumya N, Ms. Sujata R, Ms. Komal M, Ms. Rohini D. and Ms. K. P. Pattar. won the consolation prize in the Group Song (Indian) event in the Karnatak University Youth Festival 2008 – 2009.

• Ms. Deepti Uppin and Mr. M.D.Choukashi participated in Light Vocal Solo (Indian) event in the Karnatak University Youth Festival 2008 – 2009.

• Ms. Shilpa Patil and Ms. Deepti Uppin participated in the Rangoli competition (Fine Arts).

d. The college team participated in One Day Cultural Fest “ADVAITH’ competition at Gogte Institute of Technology, Belgaum on 24.03.2009 and won the First Prize and a cash prize of Rs. 10,000/-

e. The Music and Cultural Association headed by Shri. D. Prasannakumar, Lecturer encourages the students to participate in Cultural related activities.

Plan 4:- Health Checkup Camp for students

Execution of Plan:-a. On 17.03.2009 a Team of Doctors headed by Dr. V. B. Yelburgi, MBBS conducted

Health Checkup of the students of the college. One of the Doctors of the Team Dr. Mrs. M.P.Hanji, MBBS, conducted Health Checkup of lady students of the college on the same day.

b. Shri. S. S. Hegde, Lecturer is in-charge of the Health Checkup Camp and coordinates all the activities relating to the Health of the students.

Plan 5:- Sports Activities

a. Encouragement to the students to participate in Inter Collegiate and Inter University Sports and Athletic competitions.

b. Training the students for the competitions.c. Conducting of Annual Indoor and Outdoor games for the students

Execution of Plan:-a. Shri. A. H. Hawaldar, Chairman, Gymkhana Union encouraged the sportsmen to

participate in Inter Collegiate and Inter University sports and athletic competitions.

b. Shri. P. V. Kadagadakai, Sports Officer coordinated and gave training to the sportsmen, who were participating in the sports activities.

c. Students Performance in Sports activities:-i. On 20.09.2008 Mr. Arun Banti participated in the Bagalkot District Dasara Sports

Volley Ball tournament and won the First prize.ii. On 09.10.2008 Mr. Arun Banti participated in the Belgaum Zone District Dasara

Sports Volley Ball tournament and won the First prize.iii. On 20.10.2008 our college volley ball team participated in Volley Ball

Tournament organised by K L E University’s J N Medical College, Belgaum.iv. Mr. Arun Banti participated in the Karnatak University Volley Ball selection trials

on 15th, 16th and 17th Dece. 2008.v. On 30th and 31st Jan. 2009 Mr. Arun Banti led the college Volley Ball Team and

participated in the Karnatak University Zonal Volley Ball Tournament held at National College of Physical Education, Ramdurg.

vi. On 23rd and 24th Oct. 2008 Mr. Arun Banti led the college Volley Ball Team and won the III prize in the Volley Ball Tournament organised by the District Administration as a part of the Kittur Utsav at Kittur.

vii. On 28th and 29th March 2009 Mr. H. A. Satwik. led the college Shuttle Badminton Team and participated in the Karnatak University Inter Collegiate Badminton Tournament held at R L Science College, Belgaum and reached semi finals.

d. On 21.02.2009 the Sports Department conducted the Annual Sports in Indoor and Outdoor Games. Large number of students participated and won the prizes and General Championships.

Plan 6:- Moot Court Department

a. Conducting the National Level Moot Court competitionb. Encouragement to the students to participate in the State Level and National

Level Moot Court competitions conducted by the various Institutions across the country.

c. Training the students for the Moot Court competitions.

Execution of Plan:-a. A National Level Moot Court Competition sponsored by National Human Rights

Commission, New Delhi was held in our college on 14th 15th and 16th February, 2009. 24 teams from different States participated in the said competition.

• The competition was inaugurated by Dr. S.R.Nayak, Chairperson, Karnataka State Human Rights Commission. Sri Anant. Mandagi, Chairman, Governing Council, R.L.Law College, Belgaum presided over the function.

• As many as Teams from various Law colleges through out the country participated in the said National Level Moot Court Competition.

• About 20 renowned Advocates of Belgaum Bar worked as Moot Judges in this competition.

• On 16th February 2009 the Valedictory and Prize Distribution Function was held and Sri V. V. Angadi, Principal District and Sessions Judge, Belgaum was the Chief Guest. Sri S. M. Kulkarni, Chairman, K L Society, Belgaum presided over the function.

• The School of Legal Thoughts, M.G.University, Kottayam bagged “Winners’ Title”. The Team from M. S. Ramaiah. Law College, Bangalore won the ‘Runners – up Title’.

b. Shri. S. S. Desai, Chairman, Moot Court Department encouraged and trained the students to participate in State Level and All India Level Moot Court competitions organised by various Institutions across India.

c. Students participation in Moot Court activities:-i. College Moot team consisting of Mr. Shailendra Chimade, Mr. Praveen Hiremath

and Ms. Archana Bhasme participated in 3rd All India Moot Court competition conducted by Government Law College, Tiruvantapuram, Kerala from 22nd to 24th

January, 2009.ii. Moot team consisted of Mr. Praveen Hiremath, Ms. Soumya Nittoor and Ms.

Vibha Kale represented our college in the Moot Court competition conducted by K L E Society’s Law College, Chikodi from 27th February to 1st March, 2009.

iii. Our college moot team consisting of Ms. Sarayu, Mr. Girish Yadwad and Mr. Siddharta Kolhapure participated in All India Moot Court competition conducted by Government Law College, Thrissur, Kerala from 13th to 15th March, 2009.

iv. Our college moot team consisting of Ms. Asmita Deshpande, Ms. Rachita Porwal and Mr. Shrinivas Naik participated in the National Intellectual Property Moot Court competition conducted by the Institute of Intellectual Property Studies, Mumbai from 15th and 16th March, 2009.

v. Our college moot team consisting of Mr. Shrishail Hiremath, Miss. M J Patil and Mr. M. N. Patil. participated in State Level Kannada Moot Court competition conducted by Sidhartha Law College, Gulbarga on 5th and 6th April, 2009.

Plan7:- Legal Literacy Programme

a. Conducting the Legal Literacy programmesb. Encouragement to the students to participate in the Legal Literacy and Lok Adalat

programmes conducted by our college and other Authorities in surrounding villages of Belgaum.

Execution of Plan:-

a. On 18th Oct. 2008 the college hosted a Special Guest Lecture on “Mental Health and Stress Management” in association with District Legal Services Authority, Belgaum. Sri M. N. Patil, a renowned Psychiatrist, H. O. D., Psychiatry Department, K L E, Belgaum spoke on the ‘Evolution of the Law on Mental Health’. Sri V. V. Angadi, Principal District and Sessions Judge, Belgaum was the Chief Guest, Sri. U. M. Adiga, II Additional Civil Judge (Sr. Div.), Belgaum, Sri S. M. Kulkarni, Chairman, Karnatak Law Society, Belgaum and Sri A. G. Kulkarni, Member, Governing Council R. L. Law College were present.

b. On 18.03.2009 a Legal Literacy Camp was organised by our college in association with the District Legal Services Authority in Sulebhavi village. Shri V. V.Angadi, Principal District & Sessions Judge, Belgaum was the Chief Guest and Shri C. M. Joshi, Principal Civil Judge (Sr. Div.) was the another Guest present in the programme.

c. Our college students spoke and performed various skits depicting burning social evils of the society under the guidance of Shri A. H. Hawaldar, Chairman for the Extension Programme.

d. On 09.11.2008 large number of students participated and noted the proceedings of Brihat Lok Adalat Programme at Belgaum court campus.

Plan8:- Community Services

Execution of Plan:-a. On 10.09.2008 our Students and Staff members generously donated a sum of Rs.

3525/- in cash to Prime Minister’s Relief Fund to help the needy in the state of Bihar.b. A Tree Plantation (Vanamahotsav) was organised on our college campus on

22.09.2008. Shri V. V. Angadi, Principal District Judge, Belgaum was the Chief Guest and Shri C. M. Joshi, Principal Civil Judge (Sr. Div.) was the another Guest present with other judges in the programme. Forest Officers were also present on this occasion.

c. Students numbering 560 and Staff contributed Rs. 8400/- voluntarily for Teachers’ Day Flags (5th September, to the National Foundation of Teachers’ Welfare).

d.National Communal Harmony Campaign & Fund Raising Week was observed by the students in our college from (19th to 25th Nov. 2008). 247 students and staff contributed Rs. 1000/- for the cause of National Integration.

e.On 08.03.2009 the college students taken a pledge as per Rule 6 (4) (iii) of the Dowry Prohibition (Karnataka) Rules 2004 published in Karnataka Gazette (Extra ordinary) dated 31.03.2004 to show a token of respect to the women community on International Women’s Day.

b. Encouragement to the students to participate in the Seminars / Workshops conducted by our college and other Institutions.

Execution of Plan:-a. One Day Workshop on ‘Right to Information Act, 2005’ was organised on 25.09.2008

in association with KUIDFC, Bangalore and Shri J. Ravishankar, Deputy commissioner, Belgaum was the Chief Guest and inaugurated the workshop. Sri S. M. Kulkarni, Chairman K. L. Society, presided over the function. Shri A. G. Kulkarni, Member, Governing Council R. L. Law College was the Chief Guest for Valedictory function. 50 delegates attended the Workshop.

b. 7 students of our college participated in a State Level Seminar (UGC Sponsored) on ‘Right to Information – Taking it to common man’ organised by S. S. Arts and Science College; Sankeshwar on 26.03.2009 and Mr. Vidyadhar Dummanavar, final year student presented a paper in Kannada in the said Seminar.

c. Shri S. S. Desai, Lecturer was in charge of the Seminars / Workshops.

Plan10:- Valedictory Function and Annual Prize Distribution Function for the year 2008-2009

Execution of the Plan:-a. On 06.05.2009 Gymkhana Valedictory Function was held and Group Captain K

Raghavendra, V. S. M, Station Commander, Indian Air Force, Sambra, Belgaum was the Chief Guest and Sri A.K.Tagare, Secretary, Karnatak Law Society, presided over the function.

b. The Chief Guest distributed all the prizes for the year 2008 – 2009:i. Mr. Praveenkumar Hiremath received Late Sri M.K.Nambyar Gold Medal for

securing the highest number of marks in the subject of “Indian Constitutional Law”.

ii. Ms. Ashwini Parab received Late Sri Shankarrao Vengurlekar Gold Medal for securing the highest number of marks in the Final Year Examination.

iii. Mr. Bunty.R.Kapahi lifted Late Sri J.B.Coutinho Rolling Shield for securing the highest number of marks in the Second Year Examination.

iv. The Chief Guest distributed 36 Endowment prizes for the year 2008 – 2009.v. The Chief Guest distributed Debating Union and Cultural Association prizes.

vi. Following students were declared as General Champions of the college and received General Champion Shield in Athletics and Indoor Games for the year 2008-2009:

vii. The Chief Guest distributed Karnatak Law Society prize for securing Ranks to Karnatak University:

• Mr. Devappa C for securing II Rank to the Karnatak University in 3 Years LL.B., course.

• Ms. Ashwini Parab for securing I Rank to the Karnatak University in 5 Years B.A., LL.B., course.

• Ms. Ashwini Joshi for securing II Rank to the Karnatak University in 5 Years B.A., LL.B., course.

viii. The Chief Guest distributed Degree Convocation Certificates awarded by Karnatak University to the students who have completed the Law course successfully.

Plan11:- Farewell to the Outgoing students

Execution of the Plan:-a. On 16.05.2009 Farewell function to the Outgoing students was organised and Sri C. M.

Joshi, Principal Civil Judge (Sr. Div.) and C. J. M, Belgaum was the Chief Guest and Sri S. M. Kulkarni, Chairman, K.L.Society was the President of the function. Sri Mutalik Desai, Member K.L.Society was present on the occasion.

Plan 12:- Hostel Day Function

Execution of the Plan:-a. On 16.05.2009 Hostel Day was celebrated and Sri G. M. Wagh, Principal presided over

the function. Sri S. S. Vesne, Hostel Rector was present on the occasion.

Plan13:- Tours and Picnics

Execution of the Plan:-a. On 16.10.2008 a picnic was arranged for the 5 year law students to Attivere (North Karnataka District).b. On 11.04.2009 55 students joined one day picnic to Goa.

Plan14:- Sanjeevini Salaha Kendra (AIDS awareness) programme.

Execution of the Plan:-a. The college has ‘Sanjeevini Salaha Kendra’ and creates AIDS awareness among the

students. Sri G. M. Wagh, Principal is the nodal officer and Sri D.Prasanna and Sri A.

H. Hawaldar, Lecturers are the 2 assistant nodal officers of the Kendra. Mr. Basavaraj Revadi, Mr. Srishail Hiremath, Ms. Keerti Ms. Aafia, Mr. Sagar and Mr. Somanath were the student activists of the Kendra.

b. On 14.08.2008 the Sanjeevini Salaha Kendra organised a visit of the students to the Red Ribbon Express Train at Belgaum station.

c. On 20.03.2009 the Sanjeevini Salaha Kendra arranged AIDS awareness lecture for the students in association with MYSORE RESETTLEMENT AND DEVELOPMENT AGENCY, Mysore. Smt. 18. Community services:

a. A Tree Plantation (Vanmahotsav) was organised on our college campus on 22.09.2008. Shri V. V. Angadi, Principal District Judge, Belgaum was the Chief Guest and Shri C. M. Joshi, Principal Civil Judge (Sr. Div.) was the another Guest present with other judges in the programme. Forest Officers were also present at the occasion.

b. Students numbering 560 and Staff contributed Rs. 8400/- voluntarily for Teachers’ Day Flags (5th September of every year, to the National Foundation of Teachers’ Welfare).

c. National Communal Harmony Campaign & Fund Raising Week was observed by the students in our college from (19th to 25th Nov. 2008) 247 students and staff contributed Rs. 1000/- for the cause of National Integration.

d. On 10.09.2008 our Students and Staff members generously donated a sum of Rs. 3,525/- in cash to Prime Minister’s Relief Fund to help the needy in the state of Bihar.

e. On 08.03.2008 the college students taken a pledge as per Rule 6 (4) (iii) of the Dowry Prohibition (Karnataka) Rules 2004 published in Karnataka Gazette (Extra ordinary) dated 31.03.2004 to show a token of respect to the women community on International Women’s Day.

f. On 05.06.2009 students of the college prepared the posters and submitted the articles on Environmental importance and distributed the same in the Karnatak Law Society’s School. As a part of the Environment Day students planted a sapling on the college campus.

a. Though there is no PTA, parents are contacted regularly telephonically and in person and progress of their respective wards is discussed with them by the Principal and Director.

a. A health center has been setup on the college campus. Dr. M. D. Sattigeri, MBBS is the resident doctor looking after the center.

b. Annual health check up camp was conducted with the help of local team of doctors. On 17.03.2009 a Team of Doctors headed by Dr. V. B. Yelburgi, MBBS conducted

Health Checkup of the students of the college. One of the Doctors of the Team Dr. Mrs. M. P. Hanji MBBS has conducted Health Checkup of lady students of the college on the same day.

c. Shri. S. S. Hegde, Lecturer is in-charge of the Health Checkup Camp and coordinates all the activities relating to the Health of the students.

d. Mr. Girish Yadwad and Mr. Srinivas Naik donated the blood to the needy in the society.

e. The college has ‘Sanjeevini Salaha Kendra’ and creates AIDS awareness among the students. Sri G. M. Wagh, Principal is the nodal officer and Sri D. Prasanna and Sri A. H. Hawaldar, Lecturers are the 2 assistant nodal officers of the Kendra. Mr. Basavaraj Revadi, Mr. Srishail Hiremath, Ms. Keerti Ms. Aafia, Mr. Sagar and Mr. Somanath were the student activists of the Kendra.

f. On 14.08.2008 the Sanjeevini Salaha Kendra organised a visit of the students to the Red Ribbon Express Train at Belgaum station.

g. On 20.03.2009 the Sanjeevini Salaha Kendra arranged AIDS awareness lecture to the students in association with an N G O called MYSORE RESETTLEMENT AND DEVELOPMENT AGENCY, Mysore. Smt. Nagaratna Ramagond, Sri Sunil Ramagonda and Sri Guruputra were the resources persons and answered all the questions of the students.

The individual department / association organises workshops, seminars, Moot Courts and Legal Awareness functions. b. The college also encourages an active participation of students in various cultural activities. Annual cultural festivals such as SARGAM a Singing Competition, LEX MUSICA a Music Day Programme were organised to bring out the hidden talents of students in drama, and music.

As a part of the Abhiyana college conducted two competitions viz., Elocution competition and the Essay competition on the topic ‘Terrorism’.
