Introduction

The Canon iR5000 and 6000 are the first products of Canons new generation digitalprinters/copiers. Due to this new digital technology the iR5000 and iR6000 will be morecompetitive in terms of cost and performance.

The only difference between iR5000 and iR6000 is the output speed, which is 50 and 60 ppmrespectively. In all other specification as well as accessories they are identical. By theintroduction of the iR5000 and iR6000 Canons digital line up will be further enhanced.

The sales of the iR5000 and iR6000 will start as of September 2000.



1 Product positioning

The iR5000/6000 is aimed as a high end market, departmental walk-up printer/copier.

Although iR6000 and GP605 have the same speed, 60 ppm and almost the same features theyare differently positioned in the market because of their different maximum volume capacity.The table below illustrates this:

2 Main Feature (USP)

Price/performanceiR5000/6000 is equipped with the newly developed iR Controller, which ensures a better priceperformance ratio.

Increased reliabilityAs a new generation digital device the iR5000/6000 has new design hardware that ensuresincreased reliability durability.

Simplified user interfaceDue to its simplified touch screen user interface the iR5000/6000 lite is easy to use. When thedevice is used as a network printer several functions are as well available from remote userinterface.

Low FCOTThe FCOT (first copy time out time) of the iR5000/6000 is very low, 3.8 s.



5.1 GB image memoryThe 5.1 GB image memory, which is used for copying, printing and scanning support as wellthese functions: reserved jobs, a new function, which allows the users to store 5 jobs in memory for later

printing or reprinting electronic collation, when stored in the image memory the copy sets will automatically be

sorted by number auto impositioning, an important feature when making booklets. The original document is

loaded into the DADF starting with page 1 and ending with the last page of the document.The copy memory will do the impositioning so that the user gets a duplex V-folded andstapled booklet, with all pages in the right order.

MailboxWith the iR5000/6000 it is possible to scan or print a document to a mailbox for later print orre-print. The iR5000/6000 has 100 mailboxes. Each mailbox can be given a name as well as apassword.Using the mailbox, it is possible to combine several documents into one printing job.



Copy left/right front/backThis is a new feature for iR5000/6000 that allows the user to select the pages that should befacing each other. This feature can only be used when copying from a book to two-sidedcopies.

3 Function and technology

The iR5000 and the iR6000 have a new one chip controller, the iR controller* that is fullyintegrated into Canon hardware technology.

The lite model can be used as a copier, scanner and network printer. The iR standard model,which has standard network connectivity offers new network functions such as Internet faxand to send to e-mail.Please note that there are no possibilities for faxing from the iR5000/6000 lite!

CPCACPCA stands for Common Peripheral Control Architecture. This protocol has been developedby Canon to manage peripheral devices including printers. It gives the full control of the printjob, the print device and other functions like, scan, print to mailbox and tandem print. CPCAis built in the Canon Common Core Driver.

SoftwarePrinter driverThere will be an English PCL5e and 6 printer driver available when the iR5000/6000 isreleased. A PostScript driver as well as PCL drivers in other languages will be released laterby web distribution on http://www.canon-europa.com/software/software_downloads/ .

All drivers will be Canon Common Core drivers.



Remote UIWhen the iR5000/6000 is connected to the network a browser based remote user interface ofthe iR5000/6000 is available. By this Remote UI the user is able to do the followingoperations from a workstation: control the device status monitor jobs delete, pause and finish jobs view the mailboxes combine jobs , both copy and print jobs change properties of a job print and reprint jobs.

FinisherThere are two different finishers available for the iR5000/6000, the F1 and F2. Both finisherscan collate, group and staple collate. The F2 finisher can as well V-fold and saddle stitch inorder to make booklets.

The F1 and F2 finishers can be combined with an on-line hole puncher. There are threedifferent models: A1, two holes C1, four holes for the French market D1, four holes for the Swedish market
